How To Fix The Community In A Way Where Everyone Is Happy (and where RIOT doesn't lose players)

TL;DR: Accounts that have consistent (and valid) "negative behavior" reports should be barred from ranked queues until they can go a certain amount of time without the valid reports. Something like the system checking valid reports against honor reports to see if a player is changing their behavior enough to give them a chance back in ranked. If they want it, they will earn it back through changing their behavior, or they will make the choice to stay in norms and be where the "trolling fun" happens.

There are three types of players in this game: Serious Try-Hards, Casuals, and Dedicated Trolls

  • The Try-Hards want an environment devoid of the trolls who mess up their games.
  • The Casuals just want to play for the fun of the game and some don't REALLY care about the trolls... (they may even accept that trolls are a natural part of competitive multiplayer games).
  • The Trolls are going to just mess things up for people BECAUSE that's how they like to play the game.

In regards to the trolls, I have no problem with the people who like to have fun like this... because a video game is what we make it and how we play it, right? It's not the people i have a problem with, it's that they are allowed to be placed in the same match-making pool as I am when I'm trying to actually play the game in a more serious way.

People who show that they can't use the chat properly, or show that they consistently int, or troll in any other way that is intentionally making the game a negative experience (attempting a "troll-build" is not the same), should be kept separate from the serious players in in some way. I'm personally in favor of the prisoner's island answer, (but I know that that's not a very popular answer here because a purely toxic environment doesn't really have a chance for redemption), something more simple could be that an account that has consistent (and valid) "negative behavior" reports should be barred from ranked queues until they can go a certain amount of time without the valid reports. This is harmonious with Riot's approach of redemption and reform. If Norms already are where the trolls live, then there won't be a change other than in Ranked. You won't NECESSARILY encounter a troll, and if you do it's "exposure therapy" and a chance to show that you've reformed. False reports aren't taken seriously, we have invisible values to the validity of our reports, so then what the system can check is valid reports cross-checked with the honor system to see if a player is changing their behavior enough to give them a chance back in ranked.

This way, it's a choice! Norms can be where people engage in trolling behavior, and ranked will be purged of it and be a space where people who actually want to be serious can do-so without all the trolls.

Riot has specifically said that that's why they'll never implement a prisoners island.

You know this, yet propose it again with no changes?

This idea will never be implemented.

You got it wrong. The casuals also care about trolls. I play casually, but I still play to win. So do most casual players, and almost any casual player will agree with the fact that having a troll will definently ruin the game.

People who show that they can't use the chat properly, or show that they consistently int, or troll in any other ways should be kept separate from the serious players in in some way. You're missing the point. If we could reliably verify valid behaviour then there wouldn't really be a problem. Ban the trolls. They aren't having fun because they are trying out off-meta builds, they are having fun because they ruin other players fun.

This way, it's a choice! Norms can be where people engage in trolling behavior, and ranked will be purged of it and be a space where people who actually want to be serious can do-so without all the trolls.

Then normal queue would be infested with trolls and be completely unplayable for casuals.

And even then, do you think trolls would go into normal games? No. They would just go fuck up ranked games.

Riot shouldn't and doesn't care about losing toxic players. They have stated this MANY times.

Too many reports for humans to manually review them all.

Automated systems struggle with non-obvious offenses.

I think ideal solution has to be a combination. Or some computer absolute genius will prove me wrong.
