Reporting people in normals

So i was playing a game last night that had a particularly unsavory person in the game that i was trying my best to ignore, but they were irritatingly toxic not just to me but my team. They were verbally abusive, they fed, AFKed inbetween deaths til they just DCed from the game altogether.

Now for me and what was left of my team (we had 2 DCs but the second one was an accident) we agreed to report this person for their overall toxicity--mind you it takes a lot for me to use that word because there such a line between what everyone considers to be toxic but this person was actively trying to have a negative impact on or game both physically and verbally trying to be disruptive and for that i believe is truly toxic. SO i extend the situation to our opponents and explain what was going on and asked if they would consider reporting this toxic person for good measure. The response is what bothered me.

Some of them didn't want to report for the reason of "It's just normals". Which bothers me quite a bit because its just got me thinking how far this "it's just normals" excuse is going to govern how people react to everything that happens outside of ranked. Not caring whether you win or lose because "its just normals" is one thing, thats fine, but actively saying purposely toxic behavior and actions are also acceptable as long as its normals?

How much of the community also shares this sentiment? Is being toxic really viewed to be acceptable as long as its outside of ranked. I mean what happens when that person just takes their toxicity INTO ranked because they were punished when they weren't punished being toxic outside of it?

The "it's just normals" attitude has nothing to do with toxicity but rather the level of effort you put into your gameplay. For example, I tend to try new positions/champions/builds/etc... in normals which is not something I would do in ranked.

Being toxic is equally punishable by both. The only other thing is that LeaverBuster does treat an AFK in ranked worse than normals as it should but again that has nothing to do with toxicity.

If youd dont like it report it. Only one report is needed for punishment.

Doesn't really matter what their opinion is, because a single report will flag them for review. Don't campaign for reports, because it accomplishes nothing and can even be interpreted as harassment on your part.

To your question: I don't share that sentiment. Toxicity is toxicity, whether it's ranked or norms. The results OF that toxicity might be different depending on the mindset of the players experiencing it, but all that impacts is who feels compelled to report the behavior. If you considered the behavior to be toxic, mute the offending player and report it. Simple as that.
