What changed in the past 7 days?

I was pretty excited that this season my matches had been pretty tilt-free. Yes, the occasional toxic person was popped up but it was about 1 every 10 games, if that, and usually wasn't that bad.

I only had time for one game Wednesday, and no time Thursday, so Friday was my first day of League on this patch cycle. Every. Single. Individual. Game. That I have played since has been absolutely destroyed by toxic people. I don't know where they all came from. My games went from rarely toxic and divisive to rarely peaceful. I played 10 games on Friday. 9 of which had at least one and on several occasions two people run it down a lane. I don't mean that they did poorly, I mean they told me to kill myself, and then ran under the enemy turret upwards of 10 times in a row. The word R%%%%% now makes an appearance at least four times in every game that I play. I have been told to kill myself at least once every other game. The use of racial epitaphs is now really common.

Was there a patch to the matchmaking system or honor system that I didn't hear about? Did a bunch of accounts just get restored? Am I the only person that's experiencing this sudden shift?

I suspect another factor was the second chance some players had to get last season's ranked rewards ended recently. I would bet at least some is due to some players not learning their lesson and thinking they don't need to be on their best behavior anymore.

A couple of things happened...there's the ROX vs VS scandal, there's RiotAugust calling the boards useless, and there's a lot of general anarchy happening right now, as far as the boards go. Idk if that translates into more toxic players in game, or (and I don't mean this in a sexist way) it's just that time of the month where people are getting more and more upset with other completely unrelated things and not dropping their baggage at the door.

It's a little over a week after V-Day, after all, there's probably more than a few people whose attitudes have soured from either being "forever alone for V-Day" or recently broken up with when they didn't spend enough time with their family or S/O.

Who knows? Maybe I'm just overthinking it.

Today was the first real day I played ranked for a couple months and my god it's been bad. Minimum 2 people a game have flamed. I'm usually fine with flaming, I report and move on but jesus christ it's been bad today.

I don't know what it is with this season but there's absolutely no way I can continue playing with this kind of negativity "ff at 15" mindset going on right now.

I blame new posistion ranks. People being filled into posisitions they dont play and if they lose, their main role takes a very miniscual hit. It will take a while for this to compound into the protections that Riot put in that will eventually give bigger hits to those mains. Posistion roles are also putting higher elo players in lower elo games, and so when you get people that are better at the game on a team with people that are worse it automatically sets the game up for toxicity as the better players have less patience with players that aren't as good. Then you have genuinely good people that can turn toxic because of the toxic actions of another player. If you don't actually type anything it can probably take a year or more for Riot to figure out that you are being toxic through in game actions. But if you say something to that toxic person amd what you say could also be considered toxic then you will be banned for saying something to that person. The whole game is a cluster fuck right now.

Exactly like the OP ... I was wondering if there was some school spring break or something that let the youngins out or something? The games have been so bad I came to the boards to see if it was just me making a correlation without causation or if something has been a miss!

Im the opposite. My placements were terrible and then it seemed to get a little better. Its just chance man. You got matched with people who tilt hard and flame. Just the nature of randomness.

I felt that too. I've never seen so high levels of toxicity than over the past 2 weeks. I've been playing League for 8 years, and never has it been that much. It's like random trolls are playing ranked and do not care about LP losses. For 3 days, one out of two games contains at least 1 toxic person (inting, flaming jungler, "do that or afk" and they afk by staying at the base,...). Examples are countless. I don't know what we could do for Riot to do something about it. Should I record every single game and send them to support?

Something funny is that the "Player Behavior" boards seems like never read by rioters. It's like they gently acknowledge the fact that the toxicity is so high nothing can be done anymore to lower it...

I remember when we had this rioter (forgot his name) a few years ago, analyzing toxicity and why it happened, and coming with new ideas to lower it: Good old tribunal (that never came back), honors, report system overhaul, psychology analysis articles,... Then he left the company for whatever reason. Maybe the reason was that nobody cared beside him? After all, just dropping a "It happens to everybody to have a bad game" is always sufficient...

Sad times we'recurrently in.
