Enemy honor

I just finished a game as a darius laning against an irelia in norms. I am currently g4 and my opponent mentioned they were s4 before the match ended. I gave the irelia pointers and even the enemy jg had stated that i was "awesome" and wished he could still honor opponents. And as selfish as it is to only post this now, I have wished that i could still honor opponents ever since the new system was implemented. There are countless times that the enemy I have faced has shown more honor than the teammates I fight alongside.I understand Riot didn't want to implement ten different honor options due to lack of screen space, but adding a fifth space labled "honor opponent" that takes you to a second honor screen along with an additional 5 seconds to place your honors would most definitely allow for the "honorable opponent" to come back. This may require more manpower than I am aware of, but its not like they can't afford such a "simple" (i assume) fix to such a simple problem.

It's kind of funny because I used to joke around/meme enemies from time to time, telling them that "since I can't honor you, I'll just have to report you instead!".

There actually used to be a "better" honor system. I don't remember why they changed it, but I think the biggest flaw it had was that people would do honor trading. You used to be able to honor multiple people, and from both teams. It even game you a limit to how many honors you had...like credits. You were given a certain amount of honors to be used per game, so you actually had to decide if people were worthy or not, and you could save up some of the credits over a time. I have no idea why that's not a thing anymore, because like you said...there are plenty of honorable opponents. Why can't I give them any credit?

There's also the problem with the honor system...where the player is almost "forced" to honor someone. If you don't honor someone, you're making less progress toward your honor checkpoints. It actually credits you for honoring a teammate. AND it makes the whole menu cover your damn screen like "HEY, HONOR SOMEONE!". On top of that, the screen comes up automatically...so if you're trying to click out of the game client, you might click and honor someone totally random.

This honor system is just bad. I can't honor enemies, I'm forced to honor allies, and apparently only one person can be honorable per game.

This is a very important subject I must say

I have no qualms about bringing back honorable opponent with the stipulation that it has absolutely zero affect on honor progress. Maybe a little pop up like "an enemy like playing with you" but nothing worthwhile.

You had a game and positively helped an opponent? Great! For each one of those that actually happen, I'm going to assume there is at least 1 (probably more but eh) opposite case. "Nah, won't report the troll on your team. I'll honor them instead."

This system was abused before. Its nice when systems are placed for the benefit of everyone. Unfortunately, more people like to find ways to abuse them instead. For example, I remember certain teammates or opponents encouraging the other side's malicious players, promising to reward them with honor for continuing team harassment. Whether in the form of being toxic or just straight up inting.

Devs. who set up these systems make them assuming that everyone in the community has goodwill towards each other and a sporting behavior. Its sad to see good things removed because of a certain part of the player base who like to abuse it. I'm all for its return but it'd be nice if they placed certain precautions for those who'd encourage others to be toxic in exchange for honor. Maybe, if you're found honoring an opponent or player who was toxic, you rack up a certain percentage of punishment rewarded to the toxic player. Something like that.
