So my call back to this game after leaving it alone for two years is receiving a email about the account being banned for using third-party program.

The first thing that came to my mind was back in 2014 when we had to use an side program to record game data for replays, so I thought oh maybe it was that but then I checked my match history and saw that someone was playing on my account last month and imminently knew my account got compromised.

While I was very upset I received no warning that my account was compromised I went to support to appeal the ban only to be told it wasn't compromised and that was crap out of luck on getting it appealed.

Riot please get a better login system that requires some kind of outside system (i.e email code, phone text, F2A) when people are connecting to an account from a new IP address, so others don't have to go through this hassle I am in

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong section of this forum but a google search seems to show this is where all the talks about bans go

Update - After following Jo0o advice to try the account recovery team ticket I now have my account unbanned hopefully I don't have to go through all these hoops again if I decide to take an long break from the game.

Big Thanks to who ever was behind the name "Alkrion Ironbeard" for handling my ticket

Riot Support does have a method of account recovery, where they ask you a series of questions that only the original account owner would know, and upon answering a sufficient number correctly you'll get your account back.

The wrinkle is that it's only an option for account compromise. If you voluntarily gave account info to somebody else to play on your account, or if Riot at least believes that to be the case, you're left without recourse. I honestly have no idea how Riot determines one from the other.

So... even machine learning struggles with account security issues. You have two options - email someone and potentially inconvenience them just for being in a different environment than they normally are, or miss some cases of compromise because you require it to be decently out-of-normal before they take action.

As an example, Google requires my phone to log me in when I’m not logging into Google from a typical location. This really sucked once when I left my phone at home to go study at a new place as I couldn’t log into my Google account.

Same thing just happened to me. I hadn't played since Feb 17 and I just got an e-mail two days ago saying I was banned for a 3rd party program. They recinded the ban because it obviously wasn't me. I feel like there's been a recent breach or something they may not be aware of. My passwords were unique to LoL and a two year gap is a very long time for someone to have just been sitting on the information. The website "haveibeenpwned" also shows my passwords as uncompromised/good -- so IDK what's going on.

Couldn't Riot look at the IP's that account has played under and clearly see a major deviation from it's previous source?
