Banned for Anger/Aggression at People who don't take the game seriously

Hey,

I just wanted to pose a question/start a discussion about something that seems to happen a lot:

It seems all too often in ranked games, there are people playing that instigate fights, try to tarnish team morale, and obviously troll, int, feed, etc. For players who take the game more seriously, and play hundreds and even thousands of games a year, this is INCREDIBLY frustrating, and often leads to some backlash. While I am certainly a firm believer in maintaining a good and cordial atmosphere to some degree, it is naive to think that in high-adrenaline gaming and sporting events that teammates don't criticize and come down hard on other teammates who aren't trying. And it seems very often (even surprisingly so) that people are playing ranked games that are genuinely more concerned with annoying and trolling the team than they are winning. It's as if they don't really even want to win to begin with.

But here is the problem....and I know it mostly from friends of mine who invest a lot of time and money into this game and their accounts. I enjoy this game but I don't really become too emotionally caught up into it:

The problem is: it is all too often the more SERIOUS players who gets banned and punished for their aggression and anger (which is a part of ANY sports game for those who take it seriously - particularly the BEST athletes you would even say). I have a friend who has seriously lost hundreds of dollars and probably over 30 accounts due to this, and while he does sometimes get aggressive (and sometimes it's warranted), most of the time it is entirely reasonable and within the bounds of the sportmanslike conduct elimination threshold. I just watched a game, for instance, where the support was autofilled, and even from the start of teh lobby started making fun of my friends for being in silver (the account my friend was playing is a new one, since all his past have been banned).

From there, my friends eventually muted him and said he was toxic, and literally barely said anything for the rest of the game. The support was taking farm from him (he was ADC), following him but not engaging at all, started 0/5 but ended 3/10 i think (I couldnt see what he was saying because my friend muted him).

Long story short, he got banned.....and it's super upsetting because he was CLEARLY the least toxic person on the team (the mid laner, who was along with my friend had the best KDA), literally said int he game word for word (MF isnt torlling, fr. Naut and Fiora are). My cousin ignored them all game....and still got banned. It makes it difficult for me to support league when I see the good and serious players getting banned for some aggression, but the people who don't even belong there, who are only there to instigate, annoy, and flame people are allowed in. This is a horrible model, and something should be done to approach the suspension and banning system in a way that recognizes serious commitment. It is also unsettling that league just gets to keep all the money that people (and kids, mind you) have invested into accounts that were later suspended.

Thoughts? I came to the website to see if I could do anything to try and get my friends account unbanned because it's a huge bummer. I couldn't even believe it when it happened. However, it doesn't seem like there is any option other than to start a thread.

Competition doesn't mean you get to be an ass to people. Even in regular sports, there are limits to what can be said without fine or penalty.

And who are you to say they aren't trying?

Just because they are making a bunch of bad decisions, doesn't mean they are not trying.

The trolls who enjoy pissing people off is half the reason I avoid Ranked altogether. It's just bloated with people that delight in creating bad games.

Yeah he was CLEARLY the least toxic guy in the team. Probably even in the whole universe. God damn it Riot stop banning people for no reason.

I'll give you an example. On the highway, you have a good balance of bad drivers and good drivers. Good drivers go out of their way to let bad drivers be so they can all have a safe trip. Whether the bad drivers know about this we can never know for sure. However, what we do know with some certainty is that the good drivers are not just doing "the greater good" it is a strict self-preservation tactic because otherwise, they risk their own life and safety.

In the current state of league reward/punishment system, there are fewer incentives for the "good drivers" to go out of their way to be nice. Sometimes they'll just give you the finger back and off you go to the massive 10 cars pile up. (Toxic match!)

Most people here like op are not as bad as they are in the league when in real life, because to do so you wouldn't be a functional member of our society due to real life consequences; such as, getting a job, meeting friends, get into schools, etc. Fundamentally, I believe that this is a human condition being amplified under the veil of anonymity.

Big sigh here of course, we know that people are hard to change, People cheats, steals, and lies, as long as they can get away with it. Especially online when physical constraints are largely removed. In simpler terms, we show the worst of us online.

The League is trying to go around this human condition without breaking their bottom line. I can't stress how monumental this task really is. An easier way to encourage these "good drivers" to behave nicely towards "bad drivers" will significantly reduce the overall toxicity that players deal with. The question is how, and how much do you reward them. The current honour system is on the right track, but it is not bringing out enough "good drivers". I feel that neither the reward nor the recognition is incentive enough to accomplish this task. How can you when the incentive in the highway example is life itself. Upping too much reward you ruin your bottom line and when that happens we are not even going to have a league to play with.

The other route is also something League is experimenting; harsher punishment. While immediately effective, but in the long run without a balanced reward system this is only going to harbour resentment, and eventually loss of player base. REAL LOSS, the kind of loss that brass at Tencent will actually care.

So what OP is dealing with happens to everyone, at every stage of the league. Sometimes reminding myself just that helps me cool down.

Cheers, I got a match to play.

Take a step back. Read that you made a wall of text complaining about how people don't take A GAME seriously enough. Maybe try to imagine yourself explaining this frustration of yours to someone that has 0 connection with league. Quickly you will realise how you shouldn't take this shit seriously at all.

just act passive aggresive, if the team doesn't want to win then dont win the game

Your friend is fucked. I don’t think they lift bans on accounts, ever.

They used to have a special reform program but people fucked that up.
