Defeatist Spirit Ruining League

League of Legends has a large amount of toxic players, and while this is annoying, it is not the most frustrating part of the game for me. The most angering part of the game is the constant, defeatist spirit of other players. The thought of surrendering never crosses my mind... especially when playing ranked. Nearly every single game in ranked, someone on my team wants to surrender... even the games we are winning. WHY IN THE WORLD would you surrender when winning actually matters? Oftentimes, when I refuse to surrender, whoever started the surrender vote will say "this isn't even fun" I want to play a new game. Well, by simple math, and critical thinking, I have figured that approximately 50% of your games will be losses, based on the assumption that you play with players with a similar skill level as you. I know a lot of people love LoL and lets say if you play 6 hours on a Saturday, then on average, you will be hating your life for 3 hours. If the only fun is in winning, why even play? This weakness of the mind and defeatist spirit is really pathetic. One of the best opportunities to improve your game comes from playing against people who are better than you and learning how to beat them. If your first reaction at any sign of resistance is to give up, then you will not only lose at league of legends, but you will lose at life. I also know how often teams throw the game because they either want more kills, or make mistakes or whatever. There is never a game that cannot be won. I know RIOT can't fix peoples personalities. I just wish more players were level headed and courteous.

People do give up too early often, but a lot of it is based on how hard LoL snowballs and issues like AFK and bad matchmaking.

  • You can win 4v5, but only if your team is a lot better than theirs, or they're not really trying. If people are about equally skilled, the 5v4 will almost always win.
  • There are a lot of champs that you can't really do much against once they are 'fed', discourages people from trying their best after one or more enemies is very fed.
  • There's also the people who will start nonstop harassing you the rest of the game for giving a kill early. You make one mistake early and this person will insult your positioning/build/etc usually with ping spamming for the rest of the game. These people make most of us just want to end the game asap.
  • Smurfs ruin low level games and predetermine the winning side. One smurf plays against bunch of level 10s, suddenly he is 20/0/10, the other team is still trying with scores like 2/8/2, maybe it's time to forfeit.
  • It's a close game, but that guy on your team just has to flame and tell everyone how bad they are and how hard he's carrying, is not going to motivate anyone to try to win for this guy.

..And many more reasons we just want the game to end, but that being said, I do hate when people give up early and demoralize the team.

The 3 hours of enjoyment you get outweigh the 3 hours of disappointment. You shouldn't hate your life when you're losing, but the negative feelings make the positive feelings much better, otherwise I'd just play bots all day. There is a time and a place for surrendering, and I do think that if your team has exhausted all win conditions, you should surrender to save time and move on (such as you're an all early-game, 1 damage type, or no tank team vs a late game comp and you're already behind significantly). Low elo players won't usually know what win conditions are, and the other team also being low elo will definitely make mistakes on closing games out. I don't think people should ff as quickly as they sometimes do (and a lot has to do with the salty and stressful nature of the game), but it is what it is. I wish I didn't have a tyler1 fanboy last night int in front of a rito employee but whatevs.

lol, I had a loser team like that try to glom onto me cause I had farmed 300 minions and was level 18 and they were still lvl 14. Told those suckas to go put some pressure on the map or I'd afk. Do not expect me to start bad teamfights with you top if I know you can't do anything but feed.

We still won that game and tilted the enemy team.

typically people admit defeat when they feel like they can't win.

This is either they are good enough to see that there is no winning condition, or they are too bad to see a winning condition.

if 50% of your games are losses and losses are not fun, the only way to spend most of your time winning is to surrender and surrender early.

If the game depended only on your play versus another player, then I could respect this comment. However, when you constantly have shitters in this awful matchmaking system, it is completely not worth it to even try at certain points. I can't count how many times I've been the only lane that wins (9 times out of 10 without help from my jungler), and then here comes the 5vs1 over and over because they know I'm the only person they have to kill to win.

You generally can tell whether a game is going to be a loss or if you have a chance. I mean if you are playing jungle and you have made calls constantly, and you watch your teammates afk farm ignoring your pings while their lane opponents literally walk right in front of them, straight to you, and they sit there like braindead vegetables, there is no point in dragging the game out past 20 minutes. Honestly I wouldn't object for the minimum to be lowered to a 10 minute surrender because players are AWFUL this season. Never have I seen skill level so low as this season.

A grandmaster chess player will tip over his king when he realizes that his ability to win (or stalemate) has been compromised.

High level chess players that drag out games are often considered fools.
