Classic League Community

I que-up to play a nice match of league, but to my unpleasant surprise, I get auto-filled as ADC. W/e, not the first time or the last so I deal with it and pick an ADC. Then the league community does what it does. The attached files say it all, but here's the breakdown:

  • Player doesn't get the role he wanted, proceeds to troll by picking JG, ditching ADC (me) vs a duo lane.
  • Player starts harassing when I tell him that he should just do his role.
  • The two other friends decide to pitch in, and all three start a harassment circle-jerk.
  • Circle-jerk concludes after using several offensive remarks (retard, %%%%%%, %%%got, autistic, etc...) and not even being fazed when told they will be reported, and clearly showing they don't feel threatened by Riot's player-report system.

Now I'm no internet virgin, and I've been harassed before, and usually, I don't even bother because, well, that's just the internet. But today, I dare say I was hurt. Not from the ignorant garbage they typed up, but by the nonchalant and extremely insensitive way in they all thought that what they were saying was the funniest thing in the world. My little cousin has mild autism. He has, and most likely will, suffer from it throughout his life, so I find it hard to believe that Riot would allow jerks like these to bully and use extremely offensive language like the one shown in the chat, possibly against people with actual disabilities rather than myself, and get away with it.

Anyways, I just felt like doing some good for the community, and try to rid it of three jerks, or at the very least, get them 'Warned' and maybe they'll turn a new leaf.

Now, I understand that (according to Riot) after an initial warning, most people don't act up again. I completely believe this, with players like Tyler1 (granted, he's slightly toxic every now and again, but who isn't?) being the prime example and proof. Yet the question is: If this doesn't warrant an initial punishment (and it would to no small extent surprise me if this individual and his friends haven't been reported prior to this incident) then what does?

Game ended in a loss (no surprise there) but I really didn't even care about how frustrating it was to lane without a support (against an Ashe/Malzahar lane no-less) or how this trio tried their hardest to ignore bot lane. The worst part is knowing that these guys can say and do whatever they want and walk away scot-free, knowing that even after letting them know what they're doing is extremely offensive, one still needs to proof how macho he is, and replies: "Send them, you're a fucking retard, riot doesnt care about you, autistic kids" You can check it out in the 4th image.

It's a little sad to see Riot's (which consider to be a very community-oriented company) efforts to maintain a healthy player-base fail, and while their efforts are not fruitless, and a relatively fair portion of the community could even be said to be... dare I say it? Friendly. The undisputed majority of the community rarely thinks about being subject to punishment when they act toxic due to the negligible threat of said punishment, to the point that these levels of toxicity have become the norm in the community.

tl;dr - League community being rotten and Riot's prided tribunal means little more than a non-existent threat because prior experience has shown not just these guys, but the a large portion of the league community that this toxicity often tolerated (by the community itself) and rarely punished (by the people that encourage reform through punishment). Regardless of whether these guys are punished or not, more and more players are being toxic in games every day, and unless Riot steps up with the amount rather than the severity of the punishment, (again, nothing harsh, just a warning, think 6 hour suspension or w/e Riot considers fair for a warning) the toxicity in this game will remain as it is.

Thanks for the time and attention taken to read what could be a dissertation. Have a great day and try not to let stuff like this ruin the wonderful game we all enjoy.

Sincerely, a summoner that cares.

It actually has nothing to do with stepping up the punishment. hate speech / racism speech already skips punishment tiers and can get you 14-day ban and/or permabanned.

Granted it may be a little harder to catch if it was in pre/post game chat, but Riot still sees it.

It has everything to do with the system not being visible enough. When that happens, the toxics think they can get away with crap like you posted, and the non-toxics think that they are getting away with stuff like that.

Riot is aware of this problem, though the fix won't be released till after the new client is up and running smoothly. Hopefully we can get something like this.

Stuff on the side, what do you know... support smite Nunu's post actually took over the report card post as "best" post. I guess the community is really torn by this.

Hey, thanks for leaving a well thought out reply. I appreciate the time it took for you to go through the post. Hopefully this problem can be addressed and dealt with. Again, I love league, but issues need to be fixed before it's the game it's meant to be.
