Account was hacked, managed to recover it only to be hit with a permanent suspension

Hello all, I had been a rather active League of Legends player up until some time in 2015 but had recently gotten back into it to play with some friends and I immediately noticed several things were not right. First off, I noticed I was ranked for this current season when I hadn't played in over a year and that I was suddenly in possession of a few new champions. In addition to this, my friend list was completely purged and replaced with a bunch of names that I did not recognize, and at this point I concluded that my account had been compromised. I checked my email and sure enough there was an attempt to change my password that was unsuccessful during my time of inactivity. In response to this, I quickly changed my password as well as active email address tied to my account, purged the hacker's friends, and re-added some of my own from before. After playing some co-op vs AI and getting crushed in quick play while helping a friend get into the game, I also noticed that my account was not able to receive loot due to behavioral actions, so it turns out that whoever took my account was not only a hacker but also toxic, go figure. After around a week since playing these matches, I received an email informing me that my account had been permanently suspended for using 3rd party software, and I am certain that I did no such thing since recovering my account or back in the days when I was more active, so I can only assume that the person who took my account used said software to cheat their way to victory. When looking into similar cases to my own, and those usually were the result of someone passing their account off to get boosted through ranked and thus the ban was upheld. In my case, however, my account was being used without my knowledge or consent when it exhibited this violation of the Summoner's Code, but my only proof is that there was an unsuccessful attempt to change my password earlier this year, my friend list was purged (then re-purged once I came back to the game), and that the behavior displayed by the account took a drastic turn for the worst in between my last time playing in 2015 and recently when I changed my password. I understand that I am technically responsible for all actions taken on my account, but considering the circumstances I would like to appeal my suspension if possible. The behavior displayed when my account was compromised does not reflect how I wish to be represented and I can only offer my condolences to those who had to experience the unsportsmanlike behavior displayed by my account during that time.

Hey there!

My best advice to you would be to go to https://support.riotgames.com/hc/en-us/requests/new and submit a ticket explaining the situation. They'll have to do an investigation to figure out if they can distinguish between you and the hacker's ip address. It will likely take a good long while to prove, since they tend to be backed up in customer service requests. Best of luck.

This is something you appeal with Riot in a support ticket. Give them the last time you played on your account before getting it stolen along with the date that you retrieved it by talking with support.

Then pray that they believe you.

P.S. Break that wall of text with some formatting, damn.

There is another post seemingly identical to yours floating around right now. You will likely be able to appeal your case to Riot, but you will NOT have luck with support. All you will get through them is a series of canned responses about how there is "overwhelming evidence" and that their decision is final and then they will close the ticket on you. From what I've seen, posting this is the only course of action you have. Now you just have to wait until it gets enough upvotes/comments/views for Riot to notice it and investigate further.

On a side note, fuck Riot for this kind of shit. It happens WAY too frequently to be ok, and their support does literally nothing to help. Riot reform needs to happen, and it needs to happen now.

Yeah, this is why you submit a support ticket if you think your account has been compromised. If you had done that then they could have held off on the permanent ban while they investigated. Now that the permanent ban has been issued it becomes much harder to reverse.

That said, still submit the support ticket.

Just have to go through support and explain things to them and hope. There have been a number of instances on this very forum where Riot was able to ascertain that the account did (at least to their satisfaction) become comprised and Riot returned the account to its rightful owner sans punishments incurred by the non-rightful owner. However if they're not convinced or not feeling particularly magnanimous, they may just give you the "you're responsible for your account security and are responsible for any actions on that account even if they were supposedly perpetrated by someone else" response.

If only Rito support didn't suck so much, this wouldn't be an issue. Good luck man, maybe you'll be one of the lucky ones, Riot support is equal to bad insurance companies that just have a pre-recorded message trying to work through your problems.

That's what I love about Rito and LoL. All the responsibility for account security is laid uppon us and password we secure our account with. No other security messures like blocking access to account after several failed attemps to log in, no e-mails informing you about your account being accessed from other IP adress than the last one account was accessed, nothing... Your account has been hacked by brute force, by hacker using a program entering thousands of possible password combinations until it succeeds? Well, you're out of luck, because you will get to know it when you will try to access your account and find out by yourself that it has been hacked. And then you will get banned because that hacker was an asshole and Rito doesn't have even the most simple systems to warn you about your account being potentially hacked.

I'd say with such security messures Rito has, the best way to secure your account from hacking when you plan to not play the game for extended period of time is to ask support for account deactivation.

Will be hard to Prove. Also didn't you see the attempts to change the Password earlyer or did none of your Friends Inform you that you deleted them from the friendslist?

So you got an email alert that an attempted breach took place. Why didn't you follow through on it? At some point, personal responsibility has to take hold. I agree that the permaban is way too harsh, but I have to say that you did get fair warning and didn't take action. For that, you must accept partial blame because it shouldn't have gotten this far in the first place. There's only so much Riot can do when someone is breaching your account. Their support after the fact isn't good at all, but you did receive fair warning and could have acted much, much sooner.

Start a support ticket and hope for the best. But since you ignored your email alert, Riot's system assumed you knew about the change and moved on. You have to flag this case for personal review now, which is much harder and more time-consuming than actually paying attention to the alert you received in the first place.
