Stripped "license" vs Perma Ban

Riot has stated in the past they are opposed to the Prisoner Island concept, and I agree with that stance. But Im worried that perma banning players so they can start new accounts, has created an emergent Prisoners Island at the pre 30 levels. Whats worse is it seems to pull in genuinely new players as well.

It seems almost impossible to avoid this when perma banning players, but I had a thought recently and figured Id share. Keep in mind Im not sure if this would work, or how difficult it would be to implement, its just a random idea that popped up in my head.

Instead of perma banning after 14 day, strip the account of all of its Ranked "LP", and licensed assets. By licensed assets I mean purchased/earned/received champions, skins, wards, ect...

This way they basically get the same punishment, but their account is easier to track, and retains their MMR so they don't crap all over the new player's experience.

That said, as a player thats been level 30 with a full rune page for longer than I can reliably remember, and has no recollection of ever being punished... My thoughts on the current condition of the pre 30 experience has ... no basis from which I can relate.

Riot has said (in the past at least) that most players who are permabanned do not end up making/playing a new account. This is because they don't want to level a new account to 30. Honestly, most of those players really just want their main account. That's why the punishment works. It hits em pretty hard.

Yes, there are some who make their newer accounts. Riot isn't stupid though. They have many methods in order to track down, follow, and then punish these players when they rage again.

It's full of new players, so Riot putting up a huge reminder that toxic players can be reported and removed for levels 1-20 is really good. Stripping their account clean may punish them, but here's the thing- The message on the permanent ban says "Your behavior means you are no longer welcome in the League of Legends Community." When Riot permabans you, they are basically saying get out while holding the door open. If Riot were to just take all your assets, it's essentially the same as going to Usain Bolt's house, taking all his Olympic medals away and trophies away, and saying, "You have to earn these back."

I don't know if you're including stuff purchased with IP when you say to remove content from them, but I'd say to leave things bought with IP. Leaving a level 30 account with no champions at all and no runes could prove problematic if the player isn't too great at the game.

Also, as someone who's been playing pre-30, I can tell you it's a pretty volatile place. Tempers seem to flare up more often than they did when I played on my old account, skill levels are all over the place, and it's just really not pleasant or overly enjoyable.

Well, there's actually a technical difference between banning someone's account outright with purchased items vs what amounts to the lowest form of theft. Games can get away with banning accounts with purchased content on them because they're not specifically targeting the purchased items, they're banning the account as a whole which just so happens to have purchased items on it.

If Riot were to come out tomorrow with the announcement that all toxic players will have all of their legally purchased items removed with no refunds, that would spark a huge uproar and likely lead to the butt of several very bad legal battles.

Even though at the end of the day the two methods do the exact same thing, they are intended to achieve different goals. Banning account is to prevent the player from playing, while content removal would essentially be intended to say, "You're a bad sport, so we're going to make you repurchase everything you had before all over again because we said so."

However the majority of players who are permabanned do not return to league. Being permanently banned from a game is outright embarrassing and likely causes the player to despise the game, its player base and the administrators who develop and moderate the game.

I think prisoner island is a good thing. Australia was a prisoner island. In this game you should put pieces of shit together then sink the island. People should be getting banned left and right til you get a good community. The alternative to quarantine is infection. Their stance on prisoner island is from a business standpoint. Don't buy into the hype.

Now that IGotHooked got whatever he's on out of his system, hopefully discussion can continue.
