I am the only one who mute everyone at the start of a match?

I don't do this too often in normal games, but on ranked games, I almost always do that because people for some reason tend to rage more at this game mode despite the fact that rage loses games and you must try to win as hard as possible.

Especially because on my elo (platinum III) people tend to rage a lot. Instead of waiting for someone to rage I just mute all them at the start of a game. Of course before muting I type on the chat "I am going to mute everyone, good game and don't rage".

I never mute right off the bat, but that's a personal preference thing. Props to those that utilize the muting system if that works for them to help them play/enjoy the game more!

The reasons I don't, and super rarely do at all, are as follows:

I have a tendency to try and play peacemaker, although of course sometimes that fails or even backfires [sorrrrryyy]. I try to help people be more constructive with their feedback ["could you plz explain why I sucked, as opposed to just swearing at me?"], or to try and calm those who are being affected by others ["it's alright, dw about it, just remember to do x next time"]. I try not to be insufferable about it, and do completely clam up if people aren't responding well to this kind of behavior from me.

Total case of FOMO! へ‿(ツ)‿ㄏ I like to know what people are saying in-game, whether actually game/strat-related or just talking to each other. It does try my patience at time, but I see it as a good way for me to practice not getting too emotional about things.

If I am in a bad mood, I mute everyone just to avoid having a conversation with them in game. It's to protect myself and others from myself. I find that playing a game in silence every now and then has a surprisingly calming effect regardless of the outcome.

I recommend this to every player who goes on tilt or rages easily (including myself). I play almost every ranked game the same way:

  1. "WELCOME TO SUMMONER'S RIFT"
  2. /all gl hf boyz and grills
  3. /mute all
  4. Use pings and stay off tilt
  5. VICTORY or DEFEAT
  6. Postgame chat: gg wp

I generally just mute people at the first sign of being negative(or just talking too much) because I'd say about 70% of the players are fine, and it's just those few I'd rather not listen to. That way I avoid the tilt/distraction but still get some important feedback from my team. So I can say..ask for blue buff, ask for ganks, ask for a ward. Hear other people's requests and keep them in mind. It's not quite necessary, but I feel the reward is enough

I do that if champ select was nothing but toxic behavior. But it doesn't seem like that most of the time. After that I usually only mute when people complain too often with deaths.

I don't like to mute off the bat. Everyone deserves a chance, but muting them all the moment you load in doesn't even give them one.

I don't personally mute all at the beginning however I will mute the second things turn sour. I also have all chat turned off because I don't need to read another team's attempts at getting under my skin when my own team can do that. I took the advice from a youtuber and turned it off and my game quality shot through the roof. It was like a magical cure to the bronze elo~

I mute all Vayne, Riven, Lee Sin, Master Yi, Zed, Yasuo, and Fizz players at the start of the match. Everyone else gets a chance until they say something stupid.

The only reason that I don't mute everyone at the silver/gold level is that there's no pings for summoner spells down. I'm mostly jungle/top (well, I was in season 5) so knowing when a lane was down summoners or when mid had used ignite was useful information. If only riot gave us that information on the champion information screen for the enemy as well..........................

Wolfenstin1/8/2016, 9:31:09 PM2 votes

It really depends on how I'm feeling or how champ select went. If they were arguing or talking crap on summoner spells/champion choices, then they'll get the sock from the start.

Though sometimes I'm generous, but that mostly proves to be a mistake.

I don't, I just selectively mute people in the first instance I see them being asinine.

It never helps to mute off your entire team in a team based competitive game, you're basically aiding the enemy team by opting for radio silence.

I do mute alot but not right off the bat. If I mess up I'll mute people so I dont see them raging then unmute in a few minutes. I also try to play peacekeeper as much as I can too.

It usually takes a bit for me to mute someone. I like to use chat / all chat because sometimes it can be fun. Every so often, the planets will align and you will get a bunch of good or fun people, and all chat will actually be fun to talk in / light hearted trash talking.

PIMPSMOOTH1/8/2016, 11:42:18 PM1 votes

I mute the enemy team instantly, and my own teammates and the first drop on negativity/toxicity.

BlueThingamajig1/9/2016, 12:06:23 AM1 votes

I have a friend who has always been a good player (S4 challenger), but wasn't always a positive one. Back in season 1, he'd always get frustrated at others, culminating in a 3-day ban in early season 2.

Since then, he has been mute first, all questions later. The instant he sees someone even the slightest bit on tilt, he'll immediately mute that person. The size of his ignore list is comical. And quite frankly, it's helped him. No bans or chat restrictions since that original one.

Yxion the Yordle1/9/2016, 12:13:10 AM1 votes

Typically in a ranked game, I have started adopting the habit of saying to my team at the beginning of the game that I am in fact not a challenger tier player, I make mistakes, and hope that if I do so they not go crazy and jump on my case, but instead give me advice to help me out and that I will do the same. I ask that people kindly remember to ping mias and to ward as much as possible. I then wish everyone glhf.

After that if necessary I will mute if people start acting rude/annoying/trollish/obscene/etc...

Plat 3?!~ Congratz dude. I think its time i need to do this.

Lapis1/8/2016, 4:13:58 PM1 votes

I do that most of the time, unless I'm in a particularly good mood.

Samus721/8/2016, 8:24:00 PM1 votes

Deja vue. I thought I just answered this somewhere.

I've muted all once a game starts. I've even stopped telling people that is what I am doing. Prior, I would say in pre game chat "I'm turning chat off." But that usually generates some negative responses as well. Especially if I'm playing ranked (people in ranked are real special folks.)

Çhåryzård1/11/2016, 2:29:58 AM1 votes

I have never muted someone as I usually tend to stay out of things anyways. If someone tries to start a fight with me I calmly talk to them and if they are clearly toxic and just want trouble, I ignore them, let them keep raging in chat, and report at the end of the game.

This hasn't worked 100% of the time though, sometimes I may have a bad day and it is easier to really tick me off in game, but I'm usually able to keep my cool. Plus by not muting at the start of the game, you are able to actually meet some cool people. I have met some really funny and nice people on this game that I still play with.

Dominick Destine1/14/2016, 9:59:06 PM1 votes

I do that very often.

I pretty much put anyone on ignore the moment I realize an argument is brewing both to restrict their ability to communicate with me and for me not to be tempted to communicate with them. The system (Ignore) exists for a reason, use it.

TERR0RBR12/4/2017, 2:25:44 PM1 votes

Ah bro.. playing on NA so many less ragers. So chill
