Why did I get a 14-day suspension instead of chat restriction?

So I rarely ever get any kind of punishment because I try not to be one of those toxic players, in fact aside from being placed in a lower queue a few times from having the internet disconnect and reconnect (because at the time my internet was being upgraded so when I play mid-day, cable guys need to replace the modem, etc etc.) I have had one 5-game chat restriction and one 20-game chat restriction a relatively long time ago.

So recently, I play a game where we have an afk. No big deal, internet stuff happens as I would know, but it isn't that his internet stopped working, he was online. He just didn't play. Post-game chatroom confirmed this as he was even speaking to us too. Our jungler is mostly mid, but hedid go help bot for a HUGE portion of the game too leaving me to deal with a practically 1v2 at top lane from the hardcore camping. I ask for a gank MANY times after having been ganked at least 4 times within 5 minutes. Our jungler says that he's stuck at mid because of the afk, which is funny because he was just at bot lane. So I flame him and while this was wrong to do, it did get me mad that I was crushing top lane at first but then got camped and never got a gank at all while he ganked bot lane an innumerable amount of times. I insulted him about 6 times if I recall correctly.

When I got my notification, it wasn't directly after the game. In fact, I played another game before I got my suspension. It said that they had chat logs of me being toxic, but there was only ONE game present. It should have said chat log instead of chat logs. The system was flawed there so i think this was a true mistake that still costed me nonetheless. But what I don't get is that despite the fact that some people have over 100-game chat restrictions for repeated insults, I didn't get anything like that. I got a 14-day suspension. I don't see how one game qualifies me for a 2 week ban even though I spent money on this game. Please clarify how I can practically be banned for flaming in one game.

Hey zedrexvsyrex,

Punishments are now dealt in 4 steps in order;

  • 10 game chat restriction
  • 25 game chat restriction
  • 14 day account ban
  • Permanent account ban

If you continue your negative behavior it will result in the next punishment; there are no more infinitely stacking chat restrictions because people simply didn't reform well if they don't care about chat restrictions. Only in severe cases such as hate speech and death threats will they skip tiers for an escalated ban.

It takes 3 months for your punishment tier to drop down 1 step. If you get punished again within 3 months of your 14 day ban ending, you are going to get permabanned. You need to dramatically change your behavior to prevent this, not just kind of make an effort to be a little less toxic.

The system changed in patch 5.18. You can no longer receive hundreds of games worth of chat restrictions. Instead, punishments follow this order:

1.) 10 game chat restriction 2.) 25 game chat restriction 3.) 14 day ban 4.) Permanent ban

What determines your punishment isn't necessarily how "bad" you were, but rather how many times you've been punished before. So once you receive one tier of punishment, your next offense will land you at the next highest tier. It is possible, though, to skip over the chat restrictions and to be escalated straight to a 14 day or permanent ban, but Riot really only does this if they deem your case severe enough.

Now you mentioned that you had 2 chat restrictions beforehand, which would mean that your next punishment (which is this one) would be a 14 day ban, and it is. One thing I would like to ask you, though, is if you remember when exactly you had your last chat restriction.

Also, while you may have only been sent chat logs for a single game, that doesn't necessarily mean that is the only game that you were punished for. The system tends to only send the most recent games, it doesn't send chat logs for every game you were toxic in. If you want more chat logs, you can try asking support to send them to you. Also, if you haven't done so, you can try logging into your account, as the client sometimes has more than a single game of chat logs.

Also, as a side note:

I don't see how one game qualifies me for a 2 week ban even though I spent money on this game.

How much money you spent on the game has no effect whatsoever on any punishments you may receive. You spend money on this game to unlock more content, not to help protect your account from being punished.

Because you deserve it. You have had multiple chat restrictions in the past, which means you do things wrong A LOT. I don't care whether or not you spent money and neither does riot. You mess up you get punished. If you ask me it should've been a perma ban. You obviously have rage issues. I suggest you take these 14 days to reflect on your past mistakes and never make them again.
