Getting reported for playing off-meta or doing bad

So I have a short question - can I get punished if I get reported many times for having a bad game or playing off-meta? By Off-meta I mean playing weird champ but fulfilling my role - for example playing Gangplank support, but doing my job as a support - defending ADC, not taking CS and overally helping team like support would do. By doing bad I mean I try my best but get caught / do stupid mistakes or stuff like that that causes me to go for example 2/12.

In 99% of any of those cases people ask enemy team to report me and ofc report me, the thing is - do I need to convince people I'm not trolling, or no matter if they report me or not I will not get punished if I didn't intentionally ruin the game? (Int, grief or flame) I always try to defend my self in all chat that I'm trying but doing bad, cus I'm scared that if I get too many reports I'll get banned, but do I need to, or can I just mute flaming people and keep playing?

It'd be especially funny to get reported for GP support as he's listed under supports in the shop.

Riot's official policy is that anyone can play whatever champion they want, as long as it's still in the spirit of the role they're playing. The boards are pretty empty of people complaining about being banned for this reason.

op According to RIOT as stated below You are allowed to play any champ or off meta strategy (any role and any lane) in any mode including ranked at any level and it is not "trolling" or reportable

example: if i want to play zyra anywhere that would be within my rights to do so .

Q: Can I get banned for choosing a champion or strategy that is outside the current meta?

A: 100% no. Choosing a champion or strategy outside of the current meta is not a factor we take into account when reviewing accounts.

Anyone can report you for anything unless RIOT thinks are intentionally playing bad you wont get punished in any way for it

Also if anyone verbally accuses you "champ trolling" or of "playing bad" you can report them for negative attitude and verbal abuse

If people want to play meta and stress over a video game including ranked at any level they can make the choice not to join solo que and form their own team with people who feel the same way and not try to force their will on random players.

best advice i can give you with players like that is ignore mute and report.

I'm not sure whether you can or not but you shouldn't.

Unless it's incredibly clear that you were trolling or properly inting then you really shouldn't be. Personally, off-meta picks should be encouraged since it encourages creativity and gives a different edge when it comes to gameplay, but everyone nowadays in LoL are so competitive that they want to force everyone into the most optimized picks due to what's FotM. Essentially, don't play what you think is fun, play what makes you win. This is what makes players leave games, when they're forced to pick what they might not want. The only thing is, when considering on picking off-meta picks, it needs to make sense. I remember way back in S3 people would go Cho/Veigar/Irelia support, but that just makes little sense since they're all so CS-reliant.

So, at least for me with off-meta picks, as long as it makes some sense and you can make it work, then go all out.

If the 0 17 4 kata support I had did not get punished (and admitted to trolling) why would you be?
