Always wondered, why is it bad to call out Inters and Rage-Quitters? Shouldn't we be shaming them?

"Naming and Shaming"

I just do not understand the logic behind this, we're supposed to what? Respect the disrespectful? Not call out and show the evidence of people that go out of their way to ruin a game for four other people?

Or maybe Riot's just scared of how many people would come out with true Match-History and replay evidence of these living tumors, so they're trying to censor as much as possible so they don't have to actually get off their behinds and work on their game outside of power-creeping.

IDK, but it's definitely odd...

Naming and shaming is at best pointless. It's Riot's place to enact punishments against these people. What's the expectation, that regular forum participants will keep a running list of shamed names based on forum posts, then cross reference anybody in their game against the list? To what end, to dodge matches, or pick fights?

At worst, naming and shaming is misleading and dishonest. I've seen multiple threads made to call out "feeders" who, as far as I can tell by their match history, clearly are newer players, lower-skilled players, or players simply having a bad game. Somebody with a bad KDA who has 90% of their deaths under friendly towers is not an intentional feeder, generally.

With photoshop and similar tools available to manipulate evidence, allowing and encouraging the community to self-police in this fashion is ridiculously unworkable.

Basically, we have no way to conclusively prove or disprove any accusations made.

It could easily lead to a witch-hunt without evidence.

For one, it's not your place to punish. That's Riot's task.

Secondly, you don't know if said person is actually inting or w/e.

Guy comes in asking a simple question and gets bombarded with people downplaying Inters and Quitters and making Riot out to be incapable and powerless to handle them like any other company could.

Hey,

I've edited a comment in this thread that contained an unnecessary and inappropriate insult. Make sure that when we post, we always adhere to the Universal Rules.

On topic of this thread, naming and shaming isn't allowed on the Boards because we don't want players falsely accused and/or witch hunted for their actions. Players that you encounter in every day games do not subject themselves to public scrutiny like a pro player would so naming them doing something wrong is asking for them to be witch hunted where they never intended their name to be exposed. If you encounter a toxic player, instead of shaming them, it's better to simply report them using the client feature or a ticket if you cannot use the client. Leave it in Riot's hands since they are able to find and see all the evidence that you don't have access to. For all you know, that intentional feeder had a hacked account or that flamer was having a one off bad day and regrets it. You don't know the circumstances so it is not your responsibility to submit them to public shame and witch hunting. Report and move on.

If you guys have questions about the edit or about or name and shame rule, the Discord is always open and we'll be glad to help out as best we can.

Thanks

  1. The information can be falsified (if using screenshots or simply copied chat logs) and people can be framed for behavior that they did not actually engage in.

  2. You could start a witch hunt, which equates to group-cyber-bullying. Cyber bullying is straight-up illegal in many states, and Riot doesn't want to have to deal with any of that legal crap.

  3. Because if a player trolled you for attention, then calling attention to them for it is doing exactly what they want, and in feeding the behavior you will encourage them to do it more to other players in the future.

Colgate Gator2/21/2018, 4:53:35 PM3 votes

Because it's your part to report them so the system can deal with them, not yours.

Also it doesn't help that people's definition of inters and rage quitters can be quite...ample.

BobaFlautist2/21/2018, 4:39:03 PM3 votes

Because league players are extremeley bad at nuance and objectivity. "My Zoe Mid solo died twice to their Xerath, and everyone knows Zoe is op, so that's pretty much inting, right?"

I Love Thresh2/21/2018, 4:45:32 PM3 votes

Something along the line of "an eye for an eye will make the whole world blind", for lack of a better idiom If they int they will be punished adequately and naming and shaming is just pointless toxicity.

It adds unnecessary drama to the forums, plus with how anonymous one can be, it doesn't matter.

Name and shame used to work back in the old days where there was low mobility between communities and low accessibility for anonymity.

The internet has high mobility as in they have the choice to avoid the forums.

There's high accessibility to anonymity by name change or creating a new account.

This is why name and shame is pointless.

The logic posted on these boards against name and shame is exceptionally weak. Most of us are familiar with inters/trolls/afkers/horridly bad teammates. Is there any defense to that kind of behavior? If not then it shouldn't be tolerated, by Riot AND the community. At best, it's a BIG waste of people's time and at worst these players LOSE YOU LP and RANK. Not to mention they piss you right OFF, which isn't okay either. Enacting in behavior to intentionally emotional distress a person is harassment. These people (most likely high school children) get their kicks from pissing people off. They have a selfish attitude because they don't have much skill and know the only power they have in a match is to screw over their OWN team.

I don't think these boards need Riot employees to check in and "verify" evidence. Yes, someone handy at Photoshop/editing can doctor any "evidence" but the opposite is also true. Others are skilled at forensics and can identify false evidence. I don't imagine this being introduce would cause this massive problem people perpetuate.

There has always been problems with the community, it has NEVER gotten any better. Bad behavior outside of "toxic chat" NEEDS to be dealt with. We would all benefit from weeding out the problem players who don't actually care about skill, winning, or doing well but are the ugly trolls in the basement giggling to their imaginary friends on how they int, troll, and piss people off.
