Why is leaverbuster punishing legitimate disconnects?

So I started getting massive lag spikes three minutes into the game. after restarting the client I decided I needed to restart my router. It took me approx 7 minutes to get back into the game and from that point I was fine and played up until the game ended at 25 min.

What I dont understand is why leaver punishes players who manage to get back into the game and make a contribution. Surely it should be able to differentiate between rage quiters who then might log into a game and just sit in the fountain as opposed to those who are gaining levels and contributing in fights?

How is Riot to know if you “rage quit” or “legitimately leave” and come back?

if you have so many connection problems for them to flag your account with leavebuster, you should probably get it sorted out before playing more..

There are no 'legitimate' or 'illegitimate' disconnects. There are just disconnects that affect the game for 9 other people.

A single 7-minute disconnect will not result in any leaverbuster penalty.

In order for a shor disconenect liek that to have consequences, you need to have a history of leaving games. And that's when it is not "legitimate" anymore.

You still fucked your team, at least partially.

If you have internet problems regularly, do not play that game (or suffer the consequences). The leaverbuster should not punish for 1 or 2 DC in a while.

Impossible to distinguish. But yeah it is unfortunate. Ive dc'd before, only to come back and win the game with my team and it just doesnt matter.... a loss for me no matter what. Sucks, but I can see why they do it.
