I have been thinking about the attitude of the PBM board...

And I wonder if on the whole we have the wrong attitude towards people who come here with questions on their ban.

I have read this board since Riot set it up, and I think it would be impossible to deny that the general attitude of those active here is a sense of "Oh, good, you got banned! Now let me rub it in your face how bad you should feel." And to be fair to you all, I have often done the same thing. It is so easy when someone comes ranting about how much they hate Riot and their "pathetic ban system" to include all those who have been punished into the same class of individuals rightly deserving of ridicule.

However, many people who come here, I believe can be helped, and are not deserving of further condemnation and ridicule, but advice on how to avoid further punishments, and on how to improve their behavior, as well as descriptions of what is and isn't allowed.

Maybe I am making a huge deal out of nothing, but I have seen people genuinely upset about their ban, encountering a passively aggressive hostile attitude, which often devolves into argument and name calling.

TL;DR: I think PBM is a tad to passive aggressive towards people asking help, and instead of helping them, enjoy themselves at the punished players expense. I am curious what y'all think about what I said, and would love to get some conversation on the subject going below. Thanks for reading.

the reason why their system is totally pathetic is because their way of dealing with chat made this entire game a more hostile, unfriendly game. It created this entire wave of players who are so beaten down with chat restrictions/bans they simply don't talk and learn to become passive aggressive and ruin games in a far, far worse way then someone just saying "you suck". These are mostly people who used to love this game, are invested and have hope this game will be good again. It won't. It took me awhile to accept this but I did and moved on, there is just so much wrong with what this game once was and what it is now. Tencent runs this and it will never be good again.

I can assure you I am invested in this game, I have 690 skins the last time I updated it. http://www.elophant.com/league-of-legends/summoner/na/48100476/skins If you love the game still great but if you aren't happy I really suggest you try and move on.

I've noticed a bit of this too, and I wrote a quick post about it a while back.

It's not just you, don't worry :p

I'm probably the single guiltiest party here...

Here's the thing though - most of the folks that post here aren't because they just got a small chat restriction, they were either perma'd or are right next to being perma'd. Reforming those people? Doesn't work. If it worked, they'd have learned to control themselves behind the keyboard long before the hammer got dropped and at some point among their 3 reform cards.

I notice most of the posts follow a template:

Title: (x day chat restriction/banned/riot sux)

I was doing X Y Z, yada yada lorem ipsum yeah I was being toxic as hell at my jungler but yada yada dolor sit amet. In conclusion I don't deserve to be banned. Rito pls.

The player recognizes what they did wrong but is taking no steps to change it. Either they don't feel it's a big deal, or they don't care.

If those players get the perma, so much better for the rest of the community. They shouldn't come here looking for sympathy when they fucked up, they know they fucked up, and can exactly explain how and why they fucked up.

All I've asked for from Riot is an example logs to show me what right looks like. 7 months later they still have given me nothing but "You've been declared reformed (Even though you changed nothing in your behavior) but if you dont change something we're going to permaban you"

I've asked for help here, they all say "Read the summoners Code", I say and show how it's too vague to paint the picture of what right looks like, im called stupid for not understanding, and my question doesn't get answered.

Just have to face it. Noone, Riot or the Community, has any intentions of helping players get any better. It's just too much work for them even if all they need is a chat log to base their behavior off of.

Here's what I do, I honour afkers and int feeders. Then, I report those who threaten to report the afkers and int feeders. I get assists 24/7 from riots ban system. Is there a problem with that? I hate this reporting culture and wish that homophobia and racism were instant perma bans and other forms of toxicity received perma chat bans. Everyone is bitchin about the same garbage on these forums day in and day out and they get the same 'you're responsible for your own behaviour' bullshit and then they feel bad about it so they enter a game and troll some more.

This game is more fun when everyone stops their 12 yr old bitchin. Honestly, banning for toxicity creates troll smurf accounts which creates toxicity and the cycle of life and death continues Nasus

PS. Hire me riot

you seem to not read them much. the majority of people asking why they have been banned permanently have been chat, 14 day banned prior to perma. it is honestly a small % of the actually player base. Although they do take up the majority in one board.

here are some things that you see here.

"i was defending myself" "the other person should be reported for being toxic"

they show chat logs 90% of them are incomplete and edited. you will see the line "/all chat 'Report player so and so for being toxic'"

its a mix of people on different levels of severity, but most have been warned prior to the actual punishment.

I believe you that they can be helped. I believe they should accept their punishment and move on.

here is how to help them. Let them make another account and try again. if that one gets banned too, speaking form the heart man, its them.

There is a very vocal group of entitled people that create their own narrative on how a company that they dont work for should run and handle their audience.

i use the mute feature often. Other people feel like they have an opinion that matters in regards to someone else attitude.

if they want advice here it is and it will be repeated in spurts with little to no up-votes: -Spam binging people is reportable and doesnt show up in chat logs -Riot has a auto system to detect item 3070 item 3070 item 3070 item 3070 item 3070 item 3070 build -there is actually a number of games you can actually dodge / afk out of without being punished but its in relation to the number of games you play and frequency. (consider 1 out of 100 games) -Riot actually has real people reviewing these bans and will actually read them so BSing them on a review card makes them less sympathetic from the start. -Riot has punished their own employees before. -Riot has banned Pro players accounts and never gave them back and the pros had to start over for their live server account. -Running it down mid is ban-able -Riot punishes people for more than what they say. -Special characters sometimes jack up report cards so they could actually be incomplete and Riot can pull your full one if you need it.

difference between casual and ranked: -if you afk the last 5 mins of a normal game probably get 1 report. -if you afk the last 2 mins of a ranked game you will most likely get 3 reports on you. -in ranked dont sit in base spamming surrender. it didnt work the first time and the other people do expect you to play. -in ranked dont say 'its only a game' it is a commitment for a period of atleast an 1 hour per game should be given. not you have 20 mins maybe it will be quick. -Normals have their own elo, but there is no visual representation to carry over next season.

Question for you: -have you been banned / suspended / restricted or punished by riot?

I suppose it depends on what message you think is needed.

Are people going to be helped by their peers telling them that, no, their behavior is not acceptable, and it is laughable to think that it is. Or are they going to be helped by some kind of advice as to what isn't acceptable.

I suppose it depends on whether you think the information is self evident or not. I think that for most people it should be, and that most people complaining about their bans, aren't actually looking for advice on how to improve themselves, they are either looking to rant/vent, or they naively believe that they can foster a quantity of upvotes by complaining about Riot, "cuz everyone's on that bandwagon right guys?"

Considering that the vast majority of cases, the player is indeed at fault. That even on the ones that have a sob story good enough to get a large number of upvotes, tend, in the vast majority of cases to get smote when more information comes to light, it's hard to feel optimistic toward the people who expend the energy to come here.

The ones who are going to get it, probably don't post here. Sweet polite persuasion here will bring you no relief. Because those who yield to reason aren't the kind that cause you grief.

Morality Coach9/6/2016, 7:32:17 PM1 votes

All people need to do to play the game is shut up. If you haven't learned how to shut up yet, that's not our problem and we don't owe you coaching sessions.

Sometimes when I'm feeling magnanimous I will give a quick lesson on morality but no one is owed this.

It's better for toxic people to eat a ban. Most people only learn when they lose money, similar to police fines. Upholding a moral code is a rare thing in this day and age, with the stick is the best way to learn not with the book.
