Suggestion on relieving toxicity?

I have started playing ranked again over the last few days (made it to promos to s4) and then it kinda went to shit. Constant flaming in game 2 and 3 of the series, and the game after as well, resulting in me being at 77 lp in s5 because teammates trolled or intentionally fed, or just ignored literally everyone in-game.

What if riot changed the way the chat system worked slightly in-game. While some may view it as a restriction on speech, I think it makes sense in the sense that most players want a healthy and non-toxic place to play the game and enjoy themselves, or tilt cuz teemo :/

While I know nothing about developing game systems (I would love to learn) I imagine it wouldn't be too difficult to add in a way to catch people flaming, and rather than deal with it after the game, silence it while in-game. Lets say a player is really mad and says something like "go fk urself." This system would intern silence this phrase and issue a warning to the player. If the player makes a similar statement, they end up chat-restricted at the end of the game. It is the internet, and people are gonna get pissed off and rage. It happens, but it is really terrible for the people who end up getting targeted by stuff like this. I think I remember riot talking about certain features in the client already about auto-detecting certain phrases or actions in game that would result in better detection of int'ers and toxic players, but if those features end up taking affect after the game, it means that people are more or less forced to deal with toxic players, since nobody takes the time to mute the toxic person.

This may not be a very well thought-out solution in the end, but it makes sense to me, in my head. I don't really see riot taking any of this and actually using it, but It would be nice to hear from them and what their thoughts are on the subject. If anyone else has reasonable feedback as well, let me know. Emphasis on reasonable... ~MLGproKino

Common wisdom holds that the bulk of the cruelty on the Internet comes from a sliver of its inhabitants — the trolls. Indeed, Lin's team found that only about 1% of players were consistently toxic. But it turned out that these trolls produced only about 5% of the toxicity in League of Legends. “The vast majority was from the average person just having a bad day,” says Lin. They behaved well for the most part, but lashed out on rare occasions.

That meant that even if Riot banned all the most toxic players, it might not have a big impact. To reduce the bad behaviour that most players experienced, the company would have to change how players act.

Play bots, find friends to play with in game, join a gaming community . . . . completely mute your chat.

That exists.... you just mute the player

Silver 5 is the division where people first realize that they are bad then go full toxic. You need to have a strong mind to get through that.

Usually most people just mute someone if they're flaming or acting toxic, then report them at the end of the game.

I enjoy the idea of being able to silence someone automatically to prevent them from even trying to talk, but that already exists in the Mute function so there wouldn't be a need for an automatic muting system.

Also considering how many games are played 24/7, a system would have to work overtime to read through multiple logs in real time and "mute" them during a game. That isn't feasible, hence why we have the manual muting system.

I would suggest muting the players that are bothering you. You can also block them and report them if their behavior is out of line.

I hope that helps. I enjoy the idea but we already have something in place, it's just the manual version.

If its hate speech like kys or any othe death threats yes, but saying things like go fk urself or insults about how you are playing in the game..... really come on

might as well report when some says you stink

community is so sensitive one insult from a random person and everyone loses their shit and reports to the riot police
