Have to lock in or else quit

I think the fact that, in draft games, you have to lock in a champion or the whole game quits is very silly and time wasting especially since riot hasn't fully established the rules around draft matches which causes new players (never ending stream of new players) to consistently forget to lock in at the very last moment. This causes way more frustration than is necessary and I think the element of having to lock in your champion or else quit the game and receive a 5 minute wait penalty should be removed or severely changed. I also have had many instances where I search through champions and run out of time only to realize they were banned and unusable.

This ignorance of the lock in requirement should only last until the first time they make this mistake. And the requirement is there so that people who went afk in the middle of champion select are not thrown into a match while afk.

They recently removed the requirement to lock in a ban.

That one made more sense, because you are allowed to not ban anything.

But locking in a pick seems...ya know, more obvious of an action to take.

It's better than them autolocking in and then they have to afk and your wasted time is now extended by 4 more minutes.

Basically what you're saying is "if your client crashes and you aren't able to lock in a champ, your team should be forced to load up a 4v5 game".
