Serious question, concerned newbie

Everyone is aware at this point about the huge amount of "3rd party program" permabans going on.

One of the major reasons I keep seeing, as to why this is happening, is that supposedly those banned people shared their account...or did something as simple as sign into their own account on a different computer or different IP address, making the system think something awry is going on. Obviously we can't say who is innocent and who is making shit up for drama.

My question is if this is really the case for the majority, and how to deal with it. I'm a new player and love this game to pieces. I currently play on a very old, beaten down laptop. My fiance built me a brand new desktop from scratch over the holidays as a surprise gift. We still need to buy a monitor, keyboard and mouse, and install a wifi card, so I wont have the new computer ready for a couple more months...but once I move to said new computer, am I going to be at risk for a ban as well, just because of a different machine, or IP (since I visit his house every other week)?

Thanks.

I wouldn't worry about it Snowgrae.

Waves of these types of bans happen every couple of weeks. There is a very low false positive rate.

The most frequent reasons for these types of bans are:

  • scripting/use of macros to gain a competitive advantage in-game
  • downloading and using a third-party program that runs a script to gain an advantage.
  • sharing an account with someone else (and they use such a script)
  • getting someone to boost the account (they usually use scripts to make it easier.)
  • Buying an account (usually leveled by a botting program; aka script)

In your case there's nothing that would flag the system.

The people that account share usually log in at impossible times (like logging in from a Florida ip and then an hour later in Ontario). Every champs' position is also tracked throughout the game and all of those games combine to form a player's 'play pattern.' They'll know it's just you from another computer :)

You shouldn't believe everything everyone says -- not just on this forum but in life as well otherwise that will get you in trouble.

As far as your concerns -- Riot does not track IP; what could happen with your new computer (although unlikely) is that it becomes flagged for potential hacking. When that happens Riot will lock the account until you send them an email so that they can verify you are indeed the person. But again, the chance of that happening is very slim.

Don't share your account and don't install things that give you an in-game advantage and you'll always be fine.

First off, the best advice i can give is to not to believe everyone you meet, especially on the internet. Its pretty obvious that you are new, or at the very least new to these boards/forums. People come out like this during the ban waves because they all get ban at once. Riot does Bans in waves because it helps preventing the people actually hacking/scripting knowing what actually caused the detection from Riot's servers.

So again just because these people claim they didnt do anything, they could be lying. People will always try to get ahead with Riot to try and cheat the system. This is also the reason why Riot refuses to give any detail of how the detection works, nor which service you might have used. This is also why they have a gray area when it comes to any type of modification to the game (mainly Custom skins, announcer, champion voice) while those things doesnt affect the client, the programs used could potentially have something.

With all that said assuming its a brand new computer there shouldnt be anything on said computer so you have nothing to worry about. If you do nothing wrong nothing will happen to you. There could be innocent people affected by this, and common sense would tell you if you believe you did nothing wrong contact Support. Coming on the board especially with a recent ban waves is usually only done to draw up drama. People like to stir things up especially since some people in this community really dislike Riot (but yet still play their game, or come on the board) People will make up things to try and get other people on their side. The fact of the matter is Riot's Detection caught something on their computers which affected/altered the client. If it was an error contact support and they will help you, lying to them will only make the matter worse, and if it was a mistake they will give you your account back.

A note to you, some of these people log in from a foreign computer (not theirs) and if the computer has scripts on it, then it'll be detected and flagged even without the user knowing.

Most the time though, they got an ELO boost and the booster used scripts.

You sound quite naive. You'll be fine. Don't use 3rd party programs, don't believe people who might be 12 year old boys on the internet. Don't think that because you saw 5 threads that there's a trend of people getting unjustifiably banned. There's millions of players on this game. Don't break the rules, and they won't punish you.

I wouldn't expect anything from Riot at this point. People love to claim there is a low false + on the bans, but that is complete BS. Riot doesn't disclose any information about what the bans are for so there is no way to corroborate it. Don't spend any money on this game, if somehow you get caught in a ban, innocent or not you lose everything.

I have no idea how to do scripts or hacks or anything, I have logged in from different IP's as I moved but other than that I cannot figure out anything that caused the ban.
