Does misspelling something allow players to slip by punishment detection system?

I have had a number of games recently were people said things I know are on the automatic ban list, such as "aut" for autistic, "niger" for %%%%%% etc.

Every time this happens both teams report the player, but i have been checking up on a few of these players via op.gg to see if they were banned and in every case they have not been. I would be able to see a gap in days where games were played, also no notice from the client either.

People willing to say those things in chat don't just do it once, they are almost always repeat offenders, so how are they getting away with saying stuff like that.

My question, and suspicion, is that the automated system that scans through chat logs when someone is reported is not finding anything because the words are being misspelled? Is that way off or could i be right? THoughts?

The machine learning system not really, the zero tolerance system yes. "kyys kyys" won't get you 14 day banned whereas "kys kys" is an immediate 14 day if one person reports it.

Also autist isn't on the ZT list in any way shape or form.

Yes especially in player names it gets way too much leeway.

Wanna know something depressing? Even if you could get the automated disciplinary system (which is trash, imo) to detect all the different variations of existing insults and hate speech, there are two issues.

  1. People just create new words. The term eGirl is now a thing. As soon as you report the 50 (for argument's sake) ways of expressing that sexist insult, they will just create another one.

  2. The system really can't pick up on passive aggressiveness, which is one of the largest tools to flame others. Telling someone that "their 3/5 of an opinion is noted", won't be flagged... but it should be.

The only real way to ensure that justice is served, is to have an corrupted, righteous human examining every single report. Which I don't think will ever happen, haha.

Even if they do manage to bypass the automated system, they can still be manually reviewed and punished.

No, most of the time game companies will put variants of words to be flagged by systems. Stuff like this tends to be the case for what developers try to censor/flag:

fuck fucc phuck fck fk

I assume hate speech goes even more in depth with stuff like this. Just report them with the valid category and everything should work itself out. :^)

dude I try to say "I luv you (player) no homo" but the homo part is chat restricted.

Maybe rito can update the system to move the trends

(ik that homo could be used in a bad way)

did you report for hate speech?

I just use these characters for hate speech/"ban words"/etc - "!@#$%^&*()"

There is also the issue of some words that have multiple meanings or have been coopted as insults.

Even "kys". Here in NA, it's understood to mean "kill your self." In Denmark, it's their spelling for kiss.
