This is something I don't get, and maybe you can help me understand.

Okay, so, short story:

Summoners Rift. I play a lanepush Nasus toplane. My opponent is an AurelionSol. (btw. lanepush Nasus = the "Quasus" build)

Not exactly a difficult matchup, because, you know, I can safely outpush him, he doesn't really pose a threat, and if he ever tries anything, he gets dunked in melee. But, now prepare for the twist you didn't expect.

#He built AD.

And not trolling. No. He was playing dead serious. Based on his CSing, movement and map awareness, he was even quite good at the game overall. You know, not fantastic, but certainly in the ELO where he belonged (High Plat).

But of course, this build...well, it did make a matchup that was already not gonna go in his favour even worse. Because, as AP, he at least would have had damage on me, an actual kill-threat if I messed up. As AD? Not a chance. Harassing with mid-range attacks doesn't work against a lanepush Nasus, even as an actual AD. You can imagine how well it works on an immobile mage who has zero abilities that scale with AD, or interact with autoattacks.

Needless to say, I won this game, hard, turning into an unstoppable beast. In 2 teamfights, me and the support Taric took out almost their entire team 2v4. Not to mention the fact that turrets were falling like dominos.

So here is my question: Why?

And I asked him that, after the game. Friendly guy, nice to chat with him. Will keep him on my friendlist. And he had this to say about why he did it:

AurelionSol : to have fun :) I love to break the meta Nasus : but how fun is it when you get so dominated ? Nasus : sry no condescending but you build...it basically handed me the win AurelionSol : idc really its a game

I don't get that mindest. I respect his opinion, yes, but this was a ranked game.

His "off-meta-build" didn't just set him behind, it cost 4 other people a chance to win the game, because, his laners weren't doing badly, his jungler was behind a bit, yeah, but they had openings, and good things going for them during the laning phase. Half the time, the gold was dead even, even with my wins in toplane.

Saddest thing is: He didn't even lack damage. He did almost as much as his teams midlaner. that guy was skilled! Imagine what he couldve done with a regular build!

Sure, yeah, its a game. But its a game with clear win-conditions, and a team that wins, and another that loses. Shouldn't the goal be to try and win, especially when other people are concerned as well?

Help me out here guys, I really wanna understand.

I've always said there's a difference between breaking the meta and going full r-tard.

The attack speed lux I just had in a game was the latter... as is your example.

It's not that I'd say these people are doing anything wrong... but I'd prefer they prove their ability to play that way in normal games or bot games.

I'm considering playing super off meta to troll in flex queue. Probably won't but I kinda want to see that flex rage.
