Matchmaking?

Not sure where to start. I've only been playing this game for a total of 2 weeks. I've been trying to play with people that will help out others but when i'm not playing with people that are willing to help out i've noticed that any randoms are very very toxic to people who have little to no experience with this game. I've read up on plenty of websites on the fact that LoL is a very toxic community. Well seeing this first hand tonight in a match and makes me think why is there no matchmaking system for people who are fairly new to this?

What i mean is people who are still leveling up who are not able to get into ranked matches should be placed in a matchmaking system to where they are matched with others their skill level. This usually tends to happen in most games but think about games like Starcraft where you have to play a few matches to find out what "league" you will be placed in.

Having the experience i have been having lately with the trash talking to me and the toxicity of the players makes me not want to continue playing this game.

Sorry for the rant but just a little frustrated with the situation.

there is a matchmaking in place for new accounts. unfortunately the vast majority of new accounts are smurfs. also a lot of the lower mmr accounts have used bots to level so even with matchmaking there is a big mix of skill levels at all ratings.

If you're still trying to get the hang of champion mechanics, item builds, and runes/masteries then you may want to spend some more time in Co-Op vs AI before heading into PvP. Trust me, we all know that it is not as difficult, challenging, or realistic as playing against real people, but it will give you a little bit more breathing room to learn how to play the game better in a less competitive environment.

I am not trying to make excuses for the toxicity in our community at all. It is up to Riot and the players to create a community that welcomes new players and is both friendly and inviting. Unfortunately, that is definitely not where League is today, but you can help correct the problem in a few ways:

1.) DON'T RETALIATE!!

This is by far the most important, and if you take a look on these boards you will see a lot of players complaining that they got punished for retaliation even though what someone else did was way worse. It doesn't matter what someone says or does in a match, just mute them and then use the report feature after the match. Do not tell them you are muting them, it is a form of inciting drama and you can be reported for it. Do not tell them you are reporting them, it is known as Report Calling and is actually very childish and unsportsmanlike and can also be reported. Do not AFK or leave the match, no matter how tough it is you will only be hurting your own account. So again, simply mute the offender and then use the report feature after the match to explain what happened. It only takes ONE report to flag the match for review, and if the system finds any wrongdoing then it will go on their account.

2.) Be Sportsmanlike

This is a very good opportunity to introduce you to the Summoner's Code, if you haven't seen it already: http://gameinfo.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/game-info/get-started/summoners-code/

This is the standard that every player in our community is held to, and the only way we can improve this community is if we all do our best to abide by it. Every time you queue for a match, remember that there are 9 other people that are playing with you. This match is not all about you!! Unfortunately, many players will forget this and end up trolling, being toxic, and/or refusing to cooperate with their teammates. However, we must still do our parts to uphold these standards and hope that other players will learn from our example.

Be the change you want to see in the world!

3.) Communicate

Riot Support is there for you if you every want to send in a ticket and ask a question: https://support.riotgames.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

I have had conversations with support that have literally gone on for days, and thankfully they have been very patient with me as they have explained how the Instant Feedback System and the Community Standards works!! You can also post your questions and concerns here, where there are usually helpful Summoners who will happily give you the best answer they can.

4.) Teach

Stick around long enough, and you'll become very familiar with the game mechanics, item stats and effects, champion builds, game modes, and all the other little quirks. We all had to start somewhere, but then some of us reach a point where we finally learn a thing or two and git gud. At that point, we all need to work together to teach others when they need some help or advice, especially the new folks in our community!

If we all do these things together, instead of looking at our player community and seeing how abysmal it is we can instead have a bit of hope that we can make it the positive and fun community that we really want it to be. [slayer-pantheon-thumbs]

My main account is bronze 1 MMR... I played on a level 26 alt account last night and got matched against Wuks, a diamond 5 player. So yeah, matchmaking is shit in this game. There's no way my MMR is near a diamond player. Even if he had a bronze or 2 to even it out, how does it even out to my shit MMR? Maybe I had a diamond on my team, but the only person who said anything, said he was gold 3. And we got stomped.

However, as someone else pointed out, there's a lot of factors that can affect MMR. So there will always be high variations of skill level. This is the closest I've come to straight up saying Riots matchmaking is shit. I never have before, I see how complex it can be to matchmake fair games. You'll just have to deal with that and ignore the smurfs and toxic players who rag on you for being bad. We all had to start as newbs and it's important to recognize that you are a newb and not take their insults too harshly. Yes, you are garbage at the game. No, they don't need to point it out, but you also don't need to be offended by it. You are a newb, that's not so bad. At least you haven't been playing for 2 years and are still being called a newb like a lot of people.

Hi matey, welcome to league!

There are a bunch of things happening in the low levels that makes up what you are currently seeing.

Firstly understand that there is only a small pool of players that make up the <30 population. If I were to guess, I'd say 2% of the whole population.

Also understand that those that are toxic are normally banned, since this is a free to play game, they just start up new accounts. They are also part of the 2%. These people while toxic, certainly do have experience in playing the game.

Then there are those new people that come from other MOBA games like DOTA2 / HotS, while new to League's system, are certainly not new to the micro controls and general system of how a MOBA works.

Finally, there are those that are truly super new to a MOBA, and they really have no idea what they are doing.

All these people are part of the small pool of players that make up that 2%, and I would assume the "toxic" population occupies the largest space within the pool.

The way matchmaking works right now is that you'll get assigned a MMR based on your wins / losses (and only based on that), the "new" are normally match with the "new", there aren't enough players to match all the "new" together, so you'll always get a "toxic" or a "convert" in those games.

If the "new" has been on a win streak, he'll more likely be match with people of a higher MMR, which are normally the "converts" and "toxic", which is probably what is happening to you right now.

The "toxics" are certainly the worst of the crop, and the'll throw profanity every chance it gets. pay no heed to them, they'll be punished in no time (normally before they hit lvl 20). Make sure you mute them (little speaker next to their name when you open the scoreboard) and report them after the game.

There are a few of us that are very experience in regards to how the behavioral system works, so if you've got questions, feel free to ask.
