I learned a new word today and it saddens me

Over the course of my career in League of Legends, I have been mostly a sportsmanlike player towards my teammates and opponents on the rift. However recently after receiving an in-game report card I was genuinely confused at first. For what was presented in the chat logs I really believed that i did nothing wrong and did not deserve a suspension that resulted for 14 days.

That is when i began my research and came across an acronym I used earlier in this game. The acronym was 'KYS' and although used in many games under the rift, I never knew its exact meaning, and as someone who has difficult time reading in-between lines in real life (I have an intellectual disability), I consulted a few of my friends. They laughed as though I was joking, but it reality i never knew what I really did wrong. That was then the point where my friends were shocked. To the fact that I actually did not understand the true meaning of this acronym.

They asked me what exactly the acronym meant for me, and the definition for me was Keep Yourself Sane.

To many people this could have been obvious, but I only just noticed the usage of this acronym increased throughout games and entertainment, and I thought it was not as severe and malicious as it could have been. However as I learned what 'KYS' truly meant, It truly frightened me. I have never wished upon anyone and could not wish upon someone to do such a devious act towards him/herself as I knew exactly what it meant from my past experiences.

Although I now understand my consequences of the words I typed, I will take full responsibly for my actions. However I am still extremely sad because I do not think a single person in this world would understand where I am coming from. This delved into my self-esteem for the pass few days, and I feel as if no one could believe me.

To think that people would say that so casually to one other really saddens me. Why would people wish something so hateful to another? Please help me understand as it is really confusing to me.

Thank you for reading, and thank you for taking the time to try to understand where I am coming from. It really means a lot.

i think you learned a valuable lesson in looking up words and phrases you're not sure of. However, i don't disagree with the idea of putting the definitions of these phrases somewhere but lets face it they would put it in the summoner's code that the majority of people don't read

Yeah, no. Basic research would have told you exactly what it meant, and contextual clues should have told you at the very least that it was a negative, hurtful phrase. Submit a ticket if you genuinely think you have a case, but the forums have no sway over how they judge you.

Riot shouldn't go out of their way to teach people what all the hurtful things people say actually mean because it would not only give hurtful people more phrases to use, but it also wouldn't help anybody feel better about what is said. The cases where someone "accidentally" says something hurtful because they don't know what they're saying are so few and far between that I'm more inclined to believe you're trying to get sympathy and avoid getting banned by acting ignorant. The acronym in question is not uncommon. It's been a part of internet lingo for years. "Keep yourself sane" is not.

Did this constitute as a 14 Day ban, or a Permanent ban? Typically this kind of violation should result in a 14 day ban, so simply don't ever use it again once you come off the ban. In fact, for a while after your ban lifts, I wouldn't say anything at all that could be misconceived as foul language, because accounts that come off of 14 day bans are in the warning zone, where the next offense results in permanent banning.

Just be careful, don't use it again, and don't use words you don't know in the future.

It's not Riot's job to give us all a language lesson, honestly.

If I accidentally tripped and stabbed someone, I wouldn't get away with no consequences, even if I hadn't intended to do so. Sorry bud, but if you're sportsmanlike, I'm sure you won't have to worry about a permaban or any further repercussions once you work this off. You might not have meant it, but someone still could've been offended.

I've been toxic in the past (my main account has been perma-banned for this and another reason) and you know how to solve it ? Just ignore the chat, completely (or /muteall if you can't). Allow pings only and you'll notice game won't be so stressful. I don't really play this much anymore, but it really changed the way I play the game.

Kids will make up a new word next year. Riot didn't even know what it was until people started whining on the forums.

Except KYS has never meant "keep yourself sane" in common parlance anywhere ever. There's no reason a person would type that and expect anyone to understand it as having that meaning.

It's not Riot's job to teach you to not be a liar. That was your parents' job.

You can send a ticket, they will unban you and advice you to not use the keyword again even in quote.

If it makes you feel any better, when I first started playing online games I thought "gg" stood for "good God", like they were taking the name of the Lord in vain or something. I would actually ask people to stop saying it because of that before someone corrected me. Everyone does something they're not proud of or embarrassed by.

I'm a glad you know the meaning of the abbrebiation now and that you feel bad about having said it. It means your heart is in the right place and you have empathy. It's a mistake you won't make again, and hopefully you can help others realize it's not acceptable for them to say it either.

They balance the game at plat+ elo but their game is taught from a bronze 5 level. They don't have much in game to help you improve or show you where you need to imrpove or where to teach you and I repeatedly hear that people just should search online from third party sources just to find information about the game they play. If riot hasnt implemented something that teaches players to play around the level that the game is balanced for why in the hell would they take the time to educate you on something that's pretty much common sense.

Just out of curiosity (unrelated to your poll) can you post a screenshot of the chat logs that got you banned?

keep yourself sane. LOL good one. Read it somewhere before already. Actually, I see posts like this daily on behaviour board. Sometimes I read these and I'm like is this even salt worthy. [slayer-jinx-unamused]

by the way, don't need to "Keep your salt" me okay? I'll use it on worthy wounds. LOL

No, I think its your duty as a human to only use words that you know the meaning of. Idk why exactly you thought it meant keep yourself sane, but it sounds like you just made that up. You should look things up if its a new word you've never heard before and want to use it. Otherwise, just dont use it. And definitely dont use it and just make up your own meaning for it lol. Its your duty as a HUMAN. For starters, look up the word career and until then, stop using it.
