The Magic Mute Button

I see so many comments about the magical Mute Button that solves all problems and is the perfect "self-defense" against toxic players. This makes me wonder... if there is a magical button that instantly solves all issues, why do we need a report system at all? Just mute people who offend you or are flaming you or whatever else? Why do they need banned?

Food for thought (that will likely get ignored or downrated without actually being considered).

Because the mute feature is like a fire extinguisher. It gets rid of the flame but you still gotta get rid of that asshole who started the fire in the first place.

Just because there's an option to mute players, doesn't mean it's okay to break the rules. The mute button shouldn't serve as an excuse to badmouth and insult other people.

I see two arguments.

First argument; most people claim that "the damage is already done", which is just an excuse for a poor/weak mentality in most cases.

Second argument; They think they shouldn't have to mute... Except they already don't have to mute, because muting is optional.

All in all, it's just people that want to get as much players banned that hurt their feelings. Not much else to it

Because to mute somebody you have to know he is toxic, but to know he is toxic, you have to read one toxic message from him.

One message totally ruins my game, life, universe. I've comitted sudoku multiple times after seeing ONE message, because it hurt my soul soo badly. So now, Rito god has to defend me from even the slightest criticism, because i can not take a bad word from a stranger without instantly kms.

People refer to the mute button as the solution because they're acknowledging why you're there in the first place; not to type, to play. Mutes keep you undistracted.

Nah. I just commented on a post with like 20something upvotes that has a solution that I proposed that was downvoted within 20 seconds of posting it. :) It is certain people that dislike certain topics and/or certain posters. It is amusing really.

However, I have not seen this (not saying it has not been here since I only recently started coming to the forums) posted here and quite commonly see the opposite. I asked a question because I want to know the reason why it is accepted as the perfect defense yet a report is also needed as well for the same thing?

And why it is important to get someone banned that is not actually doing anything to the game itself when you can immediately mute them and nothing else they say can possibly bother you.

Not everyone is toxic. Some people run it down.

Honestly i am willing to bet this game would be much less toxic if the chat feature didn't even exist and all forms of communication would be limited to pings and even that would have its limits, this would aleviate soo many problems and health complications outside of game. MUTE EVERYONE!

This is an assertion you are making. I've not heard anyone say that it is the perfect solution.

It's not. That's why we need a report system.

I will try to explain why I am for a chatban system in the form of greentext.

> be me > Playing ranked game, trying to reach gold. > Top laner dies to jungler having pushed to far. > Itsfine.jpg > Jungler starts saying toplaner ruined his life and flames the entire team with very creative insults(they are not). > Both toplaner and jungler start talking mad shit > Are so distracted that they get caught often and miss farm while typing. > I mute them > MRW > Can still see them stop to talk because they are both still flaming. > midlaner tries to keep the peace but get's tilted along the way, I tell him to mute. > Midlaner mutes them as well. > Mid and bot are going neutral.jpg. > Top laner and jungler go rampage.amv barely moving and typing constantly. > They keep themselves so busy that the jungler and toplaner can freeroam and kill us. > We lose > GGWP > Report 2 players > Talking was a strong indicator of getting too distracted to play. > Chat systems are easier to make so the report actually might work. > ban.jpg > MFW A player that wasted my time by flaming all game and not paying attention gets banned.

Muting people doesn't solve issues. It's a tool to protect yourself from toxic chat messages. Same with report system, it's a tool for getting rid of those that seek to destroy your games.

The mute button is a defensive tool, but it is also a just a bandaid. Just because I can give emergency treatment to someone, doesn't mean they shouldn't also go to a hospital.

I think it is interesting that a legitimate question is instantly downvoted rather than answered. It is almost like there is a dislike of discussion... suppression of thoughts is hardly conducive to a healthy game.
