All strangers on the internet are enemies.
That's the feeling I get when I see people interact online.
The stranger on the internet is against me, he is not to allowed to have fun, he is not allowed to get anything at my expense - doesn't matter if it really is at my expense or just feels that way -, everything he does is done with evil intent in mind and the stranger can't do anything good if I ever perceived the slightest hostility coming from him.
It translates so well into lol. A stranger never played well, I just sucked (or better yet, my team sucked) Logically, a stranger is not allowed to feel like he is good. Flashing M7 or having to see their eternals is an insult, never harmless. A stranger saying anything negative is an immediate affront to my person (take heed, I don't tolerate flame. I'm referring to discussions where everything a person said is weighted in gold instead of seen as what it sometimes is: senseless talk) A stranger is not allowed to show that he takes pleasure in defeating me. If a stranger does a mistake, it's because there's something wrong with him, never because of context (that only applies to me). If the strangers has a different opinion than me, I must deal with it by throwing out labels that diminish someone to anything less than a person. Etc.
Sure I'm generalizing and lacking nuance for the sake of theatrics, but where does this behaviour come from? It sure as hell isn't tolerated in personal environments in most cases (people may think that way, but if you act like that, you'll get your ass handed to you)
What could you do to mitigate that behaviour, or better yet, that way of thinking? Or maybe I'm just seeing things wrongly and are missing something?
