I can haz better afk punishment?

I am aware that playing a game missing a teammate isn't fair or just sucks and for that reason low priority que is put in place for those that disconnect or afk during a game. My problem is why it's automated. Sure it's faster and more reliable, but at the same time, it isn't fair to some people. Getting a strike because of a damn power outage or because of bad internet providers leaves the player in a situation where their ability to play in the future is hindered by random strokes of bad luck. Not to mention the punishment is so one-sided. People that legitimately disconnect or afk will get it and will most likely never do it again in the near future, but if you get sent to low priority because your internet decided to cut you off for the next 30 minutes; then you're most likely going to be bitter. I know Riot's trying to be fair, but it's just too unfair for those with constant problems.

Here's a situation that happened with me. I was playing a few games today and, after getting out of my previous low priority que that I left on my account for a few weeks, I decided to play a bit more. First game two games were pretty fun. The third game however, sent me back into my 20 minute low priority que... The reason wasn't because I rage quit or was doing something else. The game had literally closed on me. There wasn't an update for my computer, it wasn't restarting. It just closed, and it wasn't a bugsplat either. Baffled, I raced to get back in game alas, it ended leaving me with a punishment. Why is this a thing? I wouldn't be so salty if the punishment was actually fair. Like instead of getting a potential 30 minute que time five times in a row, why not block the account from playing for the next 20 to 50 minutes. It so perfect. Those that leave on purpose have to sit and wait before they can troll again. Yet those whose circumstances prevented them from playing can get back to the game after they fix/finished what they were doing and only have to wait the remaining time depending on their amounts of punishments.

This would be so much better than having your computer auto-restart for multiple hours and still have to wait these ludicrous wait times. Or get back from having your internet finally turn back on to have a big ol "you must suffer now" plastered on your home screen. Of course this is from my point of view, I'm sure others would feel different about these times or about the punishment itself. So feel free to comment on how you guys feel. Let's try to get this problem noticed, for all those that got bullied by the que times!

While I understand why it feels unfair to be punished for something completely out of your control and not frequent or preventable in any way, Riot simply can't treat them differently than intentional leaving because it's not possible to effectively differentiate them on their end. It could be that your power went out, or that you just turned your PC off. It could be that the client crashed, or that you started a program that crashes it for you.

Even if we're not talking about abusing leniency towards unintentional leavers, frequent leavers need to be punished whether it's intentional or not. When a player leaves he ruins it for several other people (as you mentioned), but when he continues to play knowing it might happen he absolutely needs to be held responsible so that he has incentive to do something about it. If the leaving is truly infrequent and unavoidable, then the penalty probably won't get very high, or there may not even be a penalty at all. It's only when a player is determined to be a chronic leaver that the penalties get stiff.

The fact of the matter is that you shouldnt be leaving game period. Yes complications can happen, and Riot understands that. Hence why they do not punish if its a rare occurrence. If you are getting constant power outage, or your ISP is just that bad it is your responsibility to solve the problem. As in If you know you have bad internet dont play until you get better internet. And if you know you are getting power outages or there is a Storm common sense should tell you not to be playing during that!

With that said i do think its harsh. But i feel if you reconnect and stay connected into the game for the rest of the match it shouldnt punish you. Or if there is a Client problem we shouldnt be held accountable when the fault isnt on us.

I do understand your point of view, and I REALLY like your idea for a change. I think that it would be much better towards people that do intentionally troll and afk - although maybe just have it as a static timer from the next time they log on/ try to start a game, as people could abuse this by leaving a game, say, close to night so they're asleep during the timer. It would also be better for people that legitimately disconnected.

They should change it so it actually bans people who go AFK. It never goes past 5 games of a 20 minute low priority que, and yet their automated system for chat related offenses (something that can be completely negated by muting, unlike having an AFK on your team) dishes out permabans with virtually no context.
