so after a game i played that we lost this player on my team friend requests me. I accept the friend request he than proceeds to cuss me out and than presumes to say that he is going to get my IP address and send someone to come murder me. Is this even possible to get someones IP address from LoL or even the chat system when you add someone in LoL.

  1. Why did you even accept the friend request?
  2. Yes, that guy will send the most professional hitman from dark web, and you won't be able to do anything about it. You cannot run, you cannot hide, no one can help you. And when he finds you, he will make sure to remember the day when you encountered him. And as your life will slowly fade away, his last words aimed at you will be:

Death is like a wind, always by my side. Yasuo

  1. its impossible to track someone from LoL unless you hack riot or some shit. you have nothing to worry about, probably some 12 year old raging.

  2. screenshot it and send a support ticket

  3. isnt that a crime

Just a kid throwing a tantrum.

Go at easy, it's not possible to pinpoint a guy location from lol. All the info in the client are server sided and managed by RIOT. Getting your location would mean hacking RIOT's servers .... not an easy task.

BTW: Remove his name from the post and contact the support with a screen of the chat ... ppl like those should not be allowed to play online

Probably bullshit but you should screenshot the chat and send it to support or a Rioter. What he did is very toxic.

I'm sorry you had to experience that, however all your information is safe and it is not likely he will get any of it. you have nothing to worry about! just brush jerks like that off

just hopefully you screen shot all this , 2ndly you need to create a support ticket with said screen shots to report this person to riot. 3rdly what he did is a crime

lol....so funny that you're actually worried about this meaningless threat.

Now, a number of people have said that it's impossible to get your IP from League. This may not strictly speaking, be true. It is true that your IP information would be logged on Riot's servers and hacking them would be the only way to get that information from the server. However, it may be possible to get IP information from live games. It only depends on how Riot implements it's network protocols. In older online games like StarCraft BroodWar, the Battle.Net server is only a hub where players can meet and join up in games. But when the game starts, the game connects players to each other and maintains a connection to the server. If Riot implemented their protocol this way, it would be possible for someone to monitor their TCP connections and UDP transmissions made by the game. They would be able to get all the TCP/IP end points of which some will be the other players' IP addresses.

That being said, such threats are still meaningless. For one thing, the average internet user has a dynamic IP which is assigned by the ISP. It is entirely possible for you to have one IP today and another tomorrow. While there is some organization behind how IP addresses are distributed, the best someone can do is a rough estimate of where you live. You can easily find the country where they live but anymore than that would take some effort and it will depend on the ISP but the average person will not be able to trace an IP address to an exact location. The only exception is if they are an extremely powerful individual like a judge or government official with the power to force the ISP to give up your location. Or they could be a privileged employee of the ISP that provides your internet and has access to that information. Both scenarios are highly unlikely. I think judges have better things to do than complain about feeders in an online game.

One final thing. Let say they do get a list of IP addresses the game has made connections to, they would have no way of knowing which connection is yours. They would have a list of 9+ connections. 9 for the other players, yourself included and a couple other connections, usually to the server for the purpose of housekeeping during gameplay. And of course, everything I said is moot if Riot didn't implement their protocol like old StarCraft's Battle.Net protocol. All this only works if it is implemented as such.

As long as the connection is not some amateur hour nonsense or else only Riot knows your IP, and they won't give it out without a good reason, let alone a rando who's looking to send fucking assassins.

So the only ways to get it is if Riot couldn't code which isn't out of the realms of possibility because duh broken patch that breaks the entire game, or if they somehow got it by hacking the server.

But just to stay on the safe side, screen shot the conversation and send it Riot via a support ticket.

A death threat is a serious matter, it is not to be taken seriously especially if you can tell there's some force behind it; you don't want that actually be true. Consult Riot about it via the support ticket mentioned above, and they'll handle the rest by contacting the appropriate authority such as law enforcement to handle the matter.

Even if they aren't actually intending to kill you and just said it to be a toxic piece of shit, still send the screenshot to Riot who will definitely ban the account for it. Trash like them that threatens someone's life have no place in League.
