Another Discussion About Someone Demoralized

Yep, it's another one of these, someone thinking of quitting looking for help. As a note I'm writing this at 7AM after a sleepless night spent thinking on what I should do so if my writing is sloppy, I apologize.

For the past week every game I've played, win or lose, has resulted in me questioning why I continue playing. Despite what my own friends say I do wish to improve at this game and maybe stream it but I continue to get flamed and feel useless in my games. I've been unable to decide what role(s) to practice and focus on playing or champions to play in said roles, playing each of them feels like I'm dragging my team down. It's gotten to the point where I've made a list of champions I'm not allowed to play anymore based on what my friends tell me to never play again or from what gets me most flamed. With said list I've been running out of champions to play recently.

I do wish to play this game and "git gud" yet every game is a nightmare that makes me get demoralized which then makes me play worse and the cycle repeats. What would be the best course of action in deciding a role to focus on or ultimately quitting?

EDIT: After a 12 day break I return and now every game just makes me feel sad, like my choices just don't matter as I'll always be shit. I don't know what to do anymore, if playing Poro King makes me feel worthless than I don't know if this is the game for me even if I find it fun and interesting. Not sure what other competitive game I'd play though

It's a video game. When you get in deep, it can be easy to forget that and feel some sort of obligation to play, but that obligation doesn't exist.

Take a break. Play different games on your spare time. Maybe you come back to League and enjoy it again, or maybe you never come back. Either is better than what you're currently experiencing.

Play whatver is fun to you and get good at it. Some champions take hundreds of games to fully master. I remmember Yasuo came out it was probably around season 4 , my winrate on him was like 39% after 150 games and only then it started to rise. And nowadays although I don't play him as much I always maintain over 50% winrate.

Similar things happened when I picked up reworked Urgot legit had almost all loses first 30 games, but now after 100 games I reached 50% winrate, which is amazing to me , if you compare it to winrate I had on first 30 games.

What Im trying to say here play whatever you want to play don't listen to anyones opinion , you will eventually improve sure some champions are harder to master, but if you like their design and kit , then its worth it.

I think you need better friends. They may not be bad people, but them ragging on your play or lack of skill isn't doing you any good. Friends are supposed to lift you up, not push you down (and I firmly believe that anyone who tells you otherwise, especially if they mention "toughening you up", is not really your friend).

Also, it's okay to take a break for a while. If you're really getting something out of League, you'll come back, hopefully refreshed and with a new perspective. I was playing a lot of Dead Space on Steam and it really helped.

I want you to watch a couple things before continuing. They're short, but necessary:

A realization I came to a while ago is that learning to deal with nasty people is as much as part of this game as learning to stay behind your minions when Blitzcrank is in your lane. Learning how to not go on tilt when you're 0/11 because your support never follows up is just as important as learning how to survive botlane. Learning to maintain a sportsmanlike attitude is just as important as item builds.

Let's call the first things "soft skills" and the second things "hard skills". When anyone thinks of gitting gud at a game, they usually mean the second ones; but the first ones are arguably just as important here. And they're even harder to develop because it's all about controlling your mind and your reactions - not learning to play the game as much as learning to play yourself.

If you can't develop those soft skills, you're doomed to bronze.

You have to decide if that struggle is worth it - or if struggle is even a thing you want associated with a game you play for fun. Maybe climbing further will be more fun? It's hard for anyone here to say because it's all in your mind and what you think.

Please mull that over - but let's talk about specifics in the meantime.

  • Your history shows you're at a winrate of 8 and 11. This is not bad at all. Considering that the matchmaking tries to give everyone a 50% win rate, you're very close to normal.

  • You play a lot of different champions, roles, and maps. It could be you're spreading your skills a bit thin in your most recent matches. Your best 3 champions are Soraka , Nami , and Blitzcrank, which to me is a bright flashing neon sign that says support main!. Did you enjoy your time playing them?

What I'm saying is, don't play everyone everywhere - decide what you like (in other words, what you find fun, not what your friends flame you less on) and concentrate on it. Start with one champion in one role. Use different champs until you find one you like the feel of. Once you've got the basics down, try another champion in another role. The idea here is that you can eventually know how to play each role at a very basic level, and then branch out.

Don't feel bad about using the intermediate AIs - they are not "useless" as some people like to say. If you want to decide if you like a champ, you can do a lot worse.

Something you'll notice about high level play is that people are very married to their role, because that's where they spend all their time practicing. Everyone is a specialist in League.

  • Try signing up with a free service like Mobalytics that analyzes your games and gives you more targeted advice on what you need to work on.

  • You said your friends tend to flame you? It could be that you either need new friends (seriously wtf...), or that your playstyles are just not compatible. There's nothing wrong with finding another group to play with if it makes the game more fun for you. There are larger groups like Madcast that have some awesome people, there are individual players looking for people to play with over on the recruitment boards, there are people who will help you learn over on reddit /r/summonerschool and /r/leagueconnect.

Best of luck dude :)

I agree a break from the game is a good ideal. It's. Supposed to be fun.

If your friends make you feel bad I hate to say this but get new ones, at the very lest tell them how they make you feel. If they stop then they are real friends if not you'll then know.

If you want to stream do it, maybe you find you have a knack for entertaining people. Mostly do what makes you feel good about you!!
