Why is Tyler1 not banned again?

I started watching Tyler1 on Twitch after he got unbanned, and in a short amount of time, he repeatedly called his team mates retards, degenerates, braindead, useless, aids, cancer, etc., the only difference from his past toxicity being that he refrains himself from using the in-game chat to curse albeit aggressively flaming other players in front of thousands of live viewers. Which, to be honest, I kind of find worse. Oh, and from time to time, he defines his behavior as “banter”, which IMO is the equivalent of saying “I’m only joking” after being hateful.

Is this absurd loophole one which Riot and the community are willing to accept simply because Tyler1 is awesome League PR?

Much as I hate to say it (as I am certainly not a fan of Tyler1 or people like him), there is nothing in the summoner's code about insulting your teammates out loud. As long as it's staying off the Rift, Riot doesn't care.

I guess I honestly don't blame them. Their report system is already bloated. If they had to start going after streamers for audible harassment, nothing would EVER get done. Sometimes, battles just have to be picked and this one isn't worth it.

There is nothing against calling people whatever you want out loud. Plain and simple. If this were the case, 90% of league streamers would be banned.

Riot will not punish someone for activity that isn't on Riot platforms. His toxicity on stream is Twitch's problem. Not Riot's.

There is a line though that Riot can't cross. The moment they decide to penalize people for what they say outside of League, is the moment I believe they actually start to infringe on rights of others. Now, if Twitch had a problem with it, they could do something.

Also, at higher elo it can be bantering. The number of players in higher elo are smaller and you play with them more often. So yes, you will have various high elo saying verbal insults and degrading things on voice comms.

he refrains himself from using the in-game chat

Kind of answered your own question right here.

He isn't breaking the game's rules.

I'm actually surprised this board doesn't complain about him more often. He's definitely still "toxic" by this particular boards definition of it.

I originally opened this thread for a very simple reason, which you and I probably share: I deeply care about League of Legends. I’ve been a gamer all my life, and in recent years, League has become my personal “game of games”, because of its design, its constant evolution and its huge impact on e-sports and the industry in general. Toxicity is League’s biggest problem by far. People quit a game they love because they can’t stand the insults anymore or because it brings out the worst in them.

This post never ONLY was about the question whether or not Riot has the right to ban Tyler1. It’s also about how I perceive the influence he has as a role model on a community that I’m an active part of, and whether or not I’m willing to accept the way he handles himself as a representative.

We as players are a creative part of League - we give feedback, play on pbe-servers and give the term “games as service” an actual positive meaning.

In conclusion, I find it worthy to discuss that Tyler1 is abusing League’s biggest problem for his personal benefit, and whether or not I want to speak out against that.

Okay, so I’ve learnt a couple of things from this discussion.

  1. You can’t ban Tyler1 for his toxicity on Twitch, because every popular streamer is toxic.

  2. Riot doesn’t care about what happens on other platforms.

  3. Riot won’t ban Tyler1 because they see him as a legit recruiter of new players.

  4. Most players find it normal that insults like “braindead cancerous degenerate, pls kill yourself” are generally speaking part of the experience. Some even enjoy that aspect of online gaming.

Did I forget anything? Are we happy with that?
