Discussion etiquette in regards to perma-bans

With all due respect, if you have never been perma-suspended, please do not operate under the assumption you know how much or how little it takes to receive that punishment. In addition, please stop drawing parallels between the most toxic games you've ever had with people that are banned. Most people, to my understanding, that have been banned was so due to defending themselves against rude comments made by other players. So if you've never defending yourself, made a sarcastic comment, rubbed anyone the wrong way (Intentionally or not) or even had a bad game in-where you went 1-9-3 or something of that sort, then maybe you have the right to judge. But if that's the case, you installed yesterday, so welcome to league of legends :)

A high number of players who come here and complain do seem to contend they were simply defending themselves (though they don't seem to realize counter-aggression is not the same as self-defense). But those who come here and post about their bans are likely not a representative sample of all banned players as a whole. I would contend that most players who get banned know exactly what they've done and don't bother coming here to complain.

And no, it doesn't require having been banned before to understand the system. I've been around the game for a long time. I've followed posts about the Player Behavior systems pretty closely because I find it fascinating. I participated pretty extensively in the Tribunal when it was around. And I've followed posts in this section (and the equivalent one on the old forums) for quite some time. I've seen what it is that people are getting punished for. I'm pretty confident that I have a better understanding of the system than somebody whose only experience with the systems in place was getting permabanned by it.

Being toxic is not allowed. even if you think you are defending yourself. Also, people can comment even if they have never been banned. For instance, I don't need to have ever cursed at someone to know how to not curse someone.

Riot doesn't allow for rationale or excuses when acting toxic.

lolno.

There is absolutely no reason whatsoever to be toxic. It's also incredibly hard to get permabanned through toxicity unless you're absolute scum. So why does it matter if we've never been permabanned? And "defending yourself" does not entail being an asshole back to people you consider an asshole.

  1. There's a difference between defending yourself and being a jerk. The moment you start yelling and flaming at someone, then you're no longer defending yourself, you're just being a jerk instead.
  2. There's no requirement that says someone has to have been banned before in order to truly understand the systems. On the contrary, usually the people coming here to complain about their bans actually don't fully understand how the systems put in place here work (or they do but just don't care and only want to rage and flame about being banned for being a jerk instead).
  3. Nobody's perfect, and we all make mistakes. However, the more knowledgeable ones are the people who learn from their mistakes and work to not make those same mistakes again. For some people it unfortunately requires them getting permabanned in order for them to learn, but each person is different and learns in a different way and at a different pace.
  4. The more knowledgeable people around here (i.e. the regulars) have been playing the game for a long time, have done their research and have experience dealing with people of all shapes and sizes on these boards. The majority of the regulars have also never been warned or banned either, which also helps to prove/show that they generally know what they're talking about here.

Ive had bad days and bad games. Ive fed and gotten angry at other people in my game. Ive also been harrassed by other players.

The difference between me and the people who bitch about being perma banned is outside of conversation directly related to the game and whats going on in it I dont say anything in chat. I dont intentionally feed, and instead of defending myself i just mute and keep playing as well as i can. If i start tilting off the face of the planet i turn on some music so loud my ears literally hurt after I take my headset off or i just play a different game or get off completely.

I expend that frustration by focusing on my play and on the music. I have NEVER been chat restricted, banned, ranked restricted, suspended, or had any sort of punishment. Ive been playing since the beginning of season 1.

So keep justifying the trolls, and blaming the system.

In the end Its simple follow the rules and don't ruin the game for other people.

It is easier to write off the persons in question as scum than it is to show understanding for why they were punished or what lead up to that point. If so many players come to the forums claiming to be innocent, then maybe it is time to stop writing them off and listen to what they have to say. Maybe the system is perfect, or maybe there is a fundamental flaw that we should all work together to find so that players can enjoy the game rather than needing to be removed from it. I cannot be lead to believe that the people playing this game are quite as unreasonable, aggressive, and hopeless as the rest of the community would brand them.
