Why permanently banning players is unsportsmanlike

League of legends is considered a sport no? In no other sports has a player ever been banned from a sport. If someone has a passion for something you can't take that away from them. Even professional athletes get frustrated and swear at other players. The media does not show it because they have their own mic system. Rarely is a player ever given a red card unless their ACTIONS are unsportsmanlike. Even then no player in history has been banned for longer than a season. Be a real sport league of legends.

In no other sports has a player ever been banned from a sport.

This is categorically false. Players in many sports (Baseball, soccer, hockey) for things like match fixing (in league inting) and violent conduct (verbal abuse in league)

I would have to strongly disagree with this statement. Players are certainly banned from participating in a sport. Just to give a few examples of people who were banned from sports:

  • Pete Rose: all-time MLB record holder for hits, games played, etc. Permanently ineligible from baseball due to gambling, including betting on his own team.
  • Donald Sterling: owner of the Los Angeles Clippers, Permanently banned from the NBA for life after racist remarks were made public where he was found telling a female friend that he didn't want her bringing black people to his games.
  • Tonya Harding: banned from US Figure Skating after paying someone to hit rival in the knee prior to the championships in 1994.
  • Lance Armstrong: banned from "any activity or competition organized by any signatory to the US Anti-Doping Agency's code or any member of any signatory," which includes the cycling that he became famous for after winning the Tour de France seven consecutive times.
  • I won't even get into the various NFL players who were banned! There are quite a few though, banned for things ranging from gambling, substance abuse, domestic abuse, manslaughter, and the infamous dog-fighting. Many of the NFL bans are temporary though, lasting for either a season, or only a few years while the player is incarcerated, but there are some that are permanent.
*Vido Loncar: banned from boxing for life after attacking the referee who was awarding the match to his opponent.

There are countless other examples of players who were banned from sports, and especially for professional sports, players are not allowed to show the same amount of immaturity and toxicity that is shown by many league players. Yes, professional athletes curse. They also face the consequences of their actions, and pay the fines and know when it's time to stop arguing.

Wasn't Micheal Vick permanently suspended from NFL?

Also https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_people_banned_or_suspended_by_the_NBA#Permanently_banned makes it sound like at least the NBA has permanently suspended people.

You aren't having the game taken away from you, you can make a new account.

If something really is your passion I presume it's important enough for you to have self-control and not get your account banned, no?

"In no other sports has a player ever been banned from a sport" because not a single one of their players has committed blatant bannable offense. I see no reason to act sportsmanlike toward those who aren't sportsmanlike players to begin with.

As you've said, sports players may not necessarily behave all the time, but often they do behave when they're in games, and when they fail to do so it's mostly because they lost emotional control which required some warning/punishment to bring them to their senses.

Now look at our player base. We see ppl wishing death upon each other, feeding, going afk, denying resources from each other, ping spam, swearing at teammates on top of opponents as well, trolling, etc. You think this is losing emotional control? I call this ill-mannered griefing with clear intention to feast on others' suffering.

tl;dr the two player bases do not share equal standings and hence cannot be compared nor treated alike.

idk how it works in your country. but in my country if two football players start yelling at each other and having a pissing contest in the middle of the play-offs, the yellow and red cards start flying out of the referee's hands. And they fly so fast, you'd think they are a flock of birds being chased by a cat.

Um yeah.... no. A quick google search has shown me that this comparison is completely faulty due to the plethora of evidence demonstrating pro sports and the Olympics banning and permanently suspending people from playing in their pro sports leagues and Olympics.

You're confusing Permabans (the banning of an account) with Indefinite Bans (the banning of a player).

Indefinite Bans would be akin to kicking you out of the sport, and usually are repealed after a few years of laying low and having good behavior on the players part. This is where your sports analogy comes in, being banned for a season or two, and it's fitting since it only happens with the most visible players.

Permabans have no real-world equivalent. The closest would be kicking you off of a team for life and making you give back the jerseys associated with the team. You're free to play the game for a different team, but you'll have to use their jerseys and start over.

If you love the game that much don't ruin it and be toxic, it's not that hard

Yes it does.

Don't lie to us.

We know you're wrong.

You can't get banned from a support per say but you can get permanently banned from a league like the NBA or NFL. The main difference between those and League is that the NFL doesn't own football while Riot owns their game.

Timethief493/8/2017, 11:11:28 PM1 votes

oh np pay a 50k dollar fee then you´ll be fine. just like in professional sports

LoomberFoot3/8/2017, 5:25:33 PM1 votes

Yeah but in say football let's say the QB just started shouting at the enemy team telling them to Kill themselves and that they do not deserve to live I am sure that that QB would be fired from his team and probably banned from the professional football in general.
