Seeing all these people perma banned has me worried

Some are super toxic and deserve it, but doesn't anyone else find it a bit concerning when you see someone permabanned and their in-game chat log shows nothing more than maybe excessive whining?

I mean once Riot support told me that excessive whining, sarcastic comments, saying FF 15 and asking to report someone is punishable, like really, someone might spent hundreds of dollars on his account and you don't ban him for inting, trolling, afking or being a racist, you ban him for saying FF15 or being sarcastic?

Putting the blame on others and whining how your jungler hasn't ganked is annoying but again does it deserve a ban?

I'm not perma banned myself, but looking at some of these posts im literally afraid one day i'll see a permanent suspension and my chat log will read:

We lost FF 15 GG WP

And the reason will be excessive whining, being negative and sarcastic comments. Has Riot gone too far with its system of punishment? You could always just chat ban someone for a 1000 games or something of that nature.

There is one factor you're forgetting about these situations of players getting banned for negativity, and that's the consistency of which they are negative. In most cases, to get a punishment with negativity alone, you'd have to be negative, defeatist, and whine, bicker and moan constantly, across several games, in order to merit a punishment.

It's definitely easy to see only what's there and worry that Riot is needlessly strict about their bans and rules/petty about negative attitudes, but there's always more to their punishment than the 1-3 chat logs provided. Those are just the most recent examples that the IFS cites - it's not accurately representative of how many games they were negative in.

So, whenever you see someone posting logs that are mild, negative, and only just punishable, do bear in mind that they had to misbehave and work up to the point where that negativity pushed them over the edge to a punishment. Especially so for permanent bans - if they were exclusively punished due to consistent negativity, they'd have been on a long road of punishments, and given ample opportunities to shape up and keep the negativity to themselves.

You could always just chat ban someone for a 1000 games or something of that nature.

I mean, if we're talking about alternatives to permanent bans...If they didn't stop after the 10-game chat restriction, they didn't stop after the 25-game chat restriction, and they didn't stop after the 14-day ban, what good is another chat restriction - however colossal - going to do?

Riot has to put their foot down somewhere, and players need to learn to keep their negativity out of the chat.

You'll get chat restrictions first before getting permabanned.

People that get permabanned for minor stuff do it pretty much every other game over hundreds of games.

You'd have to blow through a mountain and a half of leniency and punishment tiers to get banned for excessive whining.

Indeed.

What leads to a punishment could be things that are extremely trivial. A player that doesn't know how the IFS works can easily feel restricted of how much chat is moderated.

Racism is punished when reported. (Usually skipping steps)

Trolling/inting is punished when they can confirm that it wasn't simply a bad game.

Afking usually requires an excessive amount to ban as they try to be courteous about people having emergencues and whatnot.

Normally the system goes: 10 game chat restrict 25 game chat restrict 14 day ban Perm.

Such a system was already attempted. Turns out that the types of players that land themselves permanent bans after several other punishments are unlikely to stop misbehaving just because they are unable to chat. Riot found that these types of players are more likely to just find other means to irritate/harass other players when they want to.

Blocking one outlet of the poor behavior doesn't help if they just find a different, less detectable, way to show poor behavior.

You don't get banned for these unless you get a 14 day ban beforehand. And even then it's very unlikely unless you're just spamming it in chat every 30 seconds. I'm not concerned at all with these perma bans. After a 14 day ban you're on very thin ice, and whether you agree or disagree with Riot on how thin the ice should be, that's just how it is at the moment.

Also chat bans stacking doesn't work. People used to have 100+ games of chat restriction and it didn't do anything to stop them.

I mean, this isn't too far from reality. In real life, if someone were at a party and went around telling people "Omg this party sucks" "This guy is so fat he's ruining my appetite" "Ugh the music is too loud who tf hired the DJ" and kept whining about how shitty the party is, I highly doubt anyone would ever invite that guy over to another party again.

Same thing in class/at work. If a project is too hard, you can't just slap it on your boss/teacher's desk and say "I don't want to do this, it's too hard, so I'm giving up." Either you're going to get fired, or your teacher is going to fail you.

Rude, sarcastic behavior isn't justifiable just because it's over the internet.

I can tell you that whining alone will never warrant a permaban unless you do it so much that you stop playing in order to write.

Most of those ppl didn’t publish the whole chat log or posted the chat log of different games.

I still to this day don’t understand why asking for reports is punishable. If the player intentionally fed/threw a game, he deserves a fucking ban, not the person asking to get him banned.

If it's just a lot of whining, the most you can get is a chat restriction for a few games.

If you start spamming or you're using a lot of offensive language (or you didn't follow previous chat restrictions), you'll get a 14 day ban.

You can only get a permaban AFTER that.

I can remember when back when permabans were manually applied. It didn't seem to matter how many previous punishments they'd had, they still acted surprised and offended when the banhammer came down.
