Ending Toxicity Once and for All

Check this out, this is a video by a high elo player explaining the problem of toxicity in league of legends, and is attempting to fix it. Toxicity has been really cracked down on by Riot, as it should be, but I do think its still a problem that needs to be addressed. Having a negative attitude effects your outlook on the game in a negative way that makes the game completely unenjoyable.

I also personally don't think the game is in as bad of a spot as people say it is. its really easy to jump to blaming riot for not balancing their game properly, and its easy to create unrealistic expectations for a video game that is obviously never going to be perfect. so i do think that there is problems with the game as a whole, but thats always been the case, literally always. this is no different. its people's outlook on the game itself that is making the game nonfun more than anything else, and thats what i feel like people aren't realizing. think about it, is any other game fun when youre pissed off at it? league isnt any different, its a game and like all games, is there to have fun not to get pissed off at. its understandable that people can get frustrated here and there because its a very competitive game, but spreading this negativity subliminally does take a toll on the community as a whole, and if people still continue to make this choice its ultimately their prerogative, but they should still be aware of the consequences of doing so.

Remember when toxicity was a specific level of extremely poor behavior and not some blanket generalist thing that people labeled over every tiny imaginable thing?

Pepperage farm remembers.

Calling the horrendous cultural choice that was the recycling of toxic players into the new players not part of the game, when literally the matchmaking in ranked devolved into seasons of Yasuo mains threatening the entire lobby is a bit of a stretch. Part of the game is to definitely blame for creating new toxic players. But not the core part.

Positive optimism while claiming pathological value to any mild non-positive statement, isn't. People aren't good with complete non-expression and trying to enforce a 'shut-up u toxic' culture actually brings down the competitiveness and increases the negativity. Weak statements get ignored as well, so there's definitely a place where you have to have a necessary evil of assertiveness or there's just a game with someone asleep at the wheel.

It's really not that hard to have a line, as most people aren't queuing for a game to bring general misery to other people. Although accidents happen for the offmeta people (people who fail at runes are worst i assure you). And calling these regular players negative or chat banning them over trying to FF in a very harsh losing game with an afker and a few more unlucky pile of games is just wrong.

I think this topic is one that needs to be seriously addressed instead of us arguing with one another. Lets remember why we play games. We play them to have fun. The fact that some people consider being rude and troll others fun is the problem. At the end of the day those who play, just want to play and have a good time. Lets focus on how we can make that better.

You can't fix toxicity in online video games. People will be people, and people are getting worse as time goes on. For the last 10,000 years, people have been toxic. Do you want to know the worst possible community that exists for toxicity? Religious communities. (not ones based on peace and nature but various power centric theologies).

Ever since cellphones became so prevalent and no one knows how to socialize anymore, toxicity will keep being as strong as ever. Just go to your local college and go to the library or rec room. Notice what everyone does these days? If they're not on their laptops (or playing pool or something) ,what are they all doing?

Staring at their cellphones.

People are just anal-rentative now and overall far more antisocial than in the past. Even Tim Cook knows there's a problem.

I havent watched the video, but if its anything like what you were saying, then yeah. Ive been telling people its more of a matter of the people and not the game that is making it so that people are not having as much fun. People find it easier to blame it on everything else, but they cant understand that their own personal views is what is holding them back from having fun.

Thats not to say that you should have fun at other peoples expense (running it down mid, trolling random ally junglers as alistar and blitzcrank... etc), usually thats because they are not having fun and so they dont want anyone else to either.

I like to suggest playing some music though when playing.

Literally everyone is toxic, There is no Person in this game that doesnt complain nor rage about anything. Most simply choose not to Show it.

/mute all Works wonders if you get tilted easily.

If you get tilted by pings, there's also /fullmute all However I don't recommend this one because then you can't see MIA pings.

I have a question. Why don't riot create an option to allow those who do not want to be in toxic games to leave without a penalty and get another game. Cause at this point the toxicity is getting out of hand. I have a few games today where people just would throw the game. I had a game where Irelia went mid, got mad because the jg was ganking and she fed every lane saying it was the jg fault for taking kills so she fed. Tried to surrender the team refused. Spent 45 minutes just to lose cause someone wanted to be an a hole. Another match I had called sup but the adc said duo bot, to keep the peace I said fine. They fed bot and then every other lane. Those two refused to surrender, once again another 35 minutes wasted. I have countless stories of people just seemingly logging on to be disruptive and it seems as if riot is helping them by allowing two people to hold three hostage; when three is clearly greater than two. So why won't they implement a system that you can just leave and get another game.
