Lets Talk about Honor

Writing this out of frustration, please bare with me.

I'm 800 games deep into the abyss of d5 but I still genuinely enjoy my games. Contrary to the popular belief, I don't think it's a bad elo and I believe the players there are quite percipient. But that's not to say I don't tilt. I do have my moments, especially when I'm coming off of a losing streak.

Two days ago I received my first 10-game chat restriction. Long story short, I showed contempt for a griefing player and as of right now, I'm not eligible for rewards. I'm not an angel in soloQ but I wouldn't consider myself toxic. I was honor 5 last season and honor 4 prior to this punishment. I don't pursue other players or look for ways to throw. I do however have my outbursts of complaining or venting about x champion (looking at you irelia). I acknowledge that mistake and I'm working on biting my tongue more often.

As for the reason I'm writing this post.

I finished my 10 games of chat restriction but my main concern is freeing myself of locked honor. This has been an infuriating experience of persistent google and league forums searches.

HOW LONG IS HONOR LOCKED FOR???

Here's a quick round-up of all the comments from Rioters I've seen,

"There's no set time to the lockout. It's all based on the behaviour you display in the coming games. If you show significant improvement to the behaviour that got you restricted, it'll be over quickly if you actively play." - Hansiman

"It's not a certain amount of time or a certain amount of games that you need to play to unlock your Honor. You just need to consistently play games without any kind of dishonorable actions. Once you've shown reform your honor will unlock and you'll start getting those drops again!" - Broporo

"You can be toxic in games, but not toxic enough to be punished; this behavior would slow your honor progress. All you have to do in order to advance is be non-toxic." - Periscope

.. What does this mean? Is there a system in place counting the amount of times I type gj in my games? Do I get extra credit for typing gl hf and gg at the start and finish of every game? Is that really all? Is that the reason Riot won't be transparent with us? Because you don't want people understanding and abusing the system? I don't understand.

Like I said, I've played 800+ games this season and you were so trigger-happy to strip me of rewards in just one game. I'm only asking for a ballpark figure of just how long it takes to get them back. If I play 6 - 8 games a day, only saying glhf, gj, gg, etc., will it take me 3 weeks? 3 months? 3 years?

Don't leave us in the dark.

Glhf and gg are neutral words.

Gj surely can help, but if you want fully capital on the honors progress, then you'll need more than just praise when people do good.

You also need to pick people up when they are doing bad. Instead of raging at people when they make a mistake, let them know that it's ok and mistakes happen. Let them know happens next is how you problem solve with them to cover the mistake so it will bring you to victory.

Btw, you weren't punished for 1 game. The system punishes based on consistency x severity. Think of it like a health meter in music games. Every note (game) you miss, it will increase that meter depending on how badly you miss (severity of toxicity). The health meter will drop if you play clean games in good faith.

The reform card shows you 1-5 recent games as examples of unacceptable behavior. If you want to know how many games were judged and included within your punishment, you can submit a ticket to https://support.riotgames.com and ask. Them details of your punishment.

On the topic of the honor system, when you get validly reported, it drastically reduces your honor progress. To give you some perspective, I play 5-7 games a week, and I hit honor5 in mid July with around 250 games. If you are at 800 games and still not h5, you certainly need to do a check on your behavior.

None of those quotes appear to be from Riot. (Moderators are not Riot, look for Riot in the username.)

Personally, I don't think Riot identifies ANY positive behavior. Therefore, as long as no negativity is detected you will gain honor.

Basically, don't talk and honor your team mates = most honor you can possibly get.

Basically, you're not getting rewards this season. The basic rule of thumb is any infraction past September+ is goodbye to your border.

It really sucks because Victorious skins are only obtainable once, and you'll never have it again.

Playing autistically is playing with honor

The primary way to get honor is by playing games without being validly reported.

This means that avoiding everything that can be flagged as negative is a good idea. No "pointing out" anyone's KDA or CS. Don't say that you're going to report or mute anyone. When you decide that someone is trolling/griefing, stop interacting with them. Don't blame people for the state of the game.

The second most important way to gain honor is by using chat positively. This can start with simple things like "gl hf" at the beginning and "gg" at the end. More advanced techniques include using chat to help your team win the game. Make plans for the future. "We should get a ward on baron" "Take dragon while they're distracted" "Build XX next for some MR" "focus LeBlanc first next fight" "Hold your ult until after they use their dashes"

While you are doing this, make sure that you're talking about the future. The future can be changed, but the past cannot. "Why didn't you ward baron?" "You should have taken dragon while I had them distracted" "Why did you build XX?" "stop focusing the tank" "stop wasting your ult" Those, while essentially the same message as the prior ones, are flagged as negative because the past can't be changed.

The third most important way to gain honor is the team bonus for everyone honoring someone. This means that it's best for you to honor someone every game. This also helps you to enjoy the game itself more. It focuses our thinking on what went right, and who we enjoyed playing beside the most, instead of focusing on the troll, flamer, or uncooperative person.

The smallest part of gaining honor comes from the individual honors. Focusing on those is a good way to make yourself frustrated.

Though I could be totally wrong I think it just counts the games in general that you get no positive reports in and you gain extra "honor points" when a teammate honors you. That being said with Season ending less then a month away I think it's going to be extremely hard, to nearly impossible if you're honor level 0 to get that back up to honor 2 needed for rewards unless you're going to be dedicated to playing games all day every day with little to no breaks.

The honor system isn't something we have any knowledge about. Riot has been completely secretive about how long it takes to get from checkpoint to checkpoint and if different types of honors or games have any effect on raising your honor. Got chat restricted a while back, probably 3 months ago and just got to checkpoint 3 for unlocking honor 1, luckily for me I don't care about having the gold border or an Orianna skin so I don't care about it. Riot has not and will not tell us how honor works because they think it motivates players to be less toxic, threatening an indefinite period of time to regain honor. Someone who doesn't play 10 games a day 5 days a week has no chance of reaching honor 2 if they got knocked down to 0 halfway through the season.
