Rant about Riot "enforcing" meta
Hello everyone. It's me, seeking attention.
Tl;dr: Riot does not communicate their ideals to the playerbase.
I play Sona everywhere, with a reasonable degree of success. I try to stay away from supporting, but that would also do if the enemy team allows me. I am not high elo, but my winrate on Sona is respectable, as it was for seasons.
I get called a troll or notice some passive-aggressive remark every single game and there were like two exceptions this season. If we lose, I am getting scapegoated. If I have better score than the player, they claim my damage is too low. If my damage is not too low, it is ignored. If I start missing ults(which is a good indication that I've had enough league for today), they repeat everything they've said before. If I have a bad game with any significant - the enemy team agrees to report me and joins the lynch-party.
That's a child's play - a lot of people resort to whining on forums, enduring a small fraction of the shitstorm I receive, but I am pretty thick-skinned and proud of it.
The real issue is that my pick alone is often perceived as an automatic loss, or as they say "let's troll". Many people see no reason to play if their "adc" is Sona. Many people think that are automatically allowed to farm my lane with Annie's Q if that happens. Many people think that I am joking, despite picking heal and stating that it's not a mistake on my side and I play it a lot, so they go the "safe option". They are more likely to go afk, surrender or run it down mid when anything, even unrelated to me, goes wrong.
It hurts my winrate in a measurable way. And I blame Riot for their pathetic failure to communicate to players what is trolling, why is offmeta not trolling, why is it acceptable in ranked and why you should never ever intentionally feed or go afk. Punishments for intentional feeding are not swift enough. Punishments for flame now lack context, so not even forums can educate the ignorant playerbase.
I am glad they improved leniency towards off-meta from what it was a couple of years ago - at least they don't ban us for two weeks, threatening perma for wiping floor with Phreak's face, but it's not enough to make ours(and our teammates') games enjoyable. There needs to be clear communication through client on what is bannable and what is not. There should be clear communication on "you reported that guy, but he turned out to be okay".
And there is none for 8 seasons. The majority of playerbase has no idea what is wrong and what is right, following their guts when they judge you.
