Disable chat (Thread 29123479247 about this and riot ignores us)

Hello Riot, I am in love with your game but i am incapable of handling my temper when things go south, I have tried for the longest time, I have used autohotkey (a 3rd party solution) to disable my own ability to chat, but then every single game I have to manually mute everyone, on the other hand ive ran a script that types /mute all at the start of a game but then i can still type. I know this is hard for some of you to grasp since you NEVER get invested in a game and try your best and get very frustrated and angry when things go south, but let me tell you that this is a very big problem, not just for me but for everyone else. They get a tilted teammate that writes bad stuff, and i myself get suspended or banned. I think its honestly ridiculous you have to get a 3rd party solution for something as simple as a disable chat button, why has this not been implemented long ago? See i grew up with flaming in games, and nothing happened, it is whether you liek it or not, part of a competitive scene. But since you do not want people badmouthing, like were all children, then maybe help the tantrum throwing children (like myself) disable their ability to ruin everythign for themselves and others by writing mean words, since apparently that is the worst offense you can commit in this game. Personally i mute anyone whos tilting or just flame back, its always been this way in CSGO, and other games. But you insist on this not being allowed, I am ok with that, its your game. BUT PLEASE help us keep our account alive by allowing us to disable the chat WITHOUT 3rd party solutions! I am begging you this, and I wish your biggest concern wasnt the latest promotional skins and more about how people feel playing your game. From a financial standpoint I am no longer purchasing any skins because i am simply too dumb to shut my mouth, and im sure the same goes for alot of other people, because a permaban on an account with skins for 1000 bucks, isnt very nice to say the least. So for your wallets and the well being of both the angry people and the unfortunate ones to get in their way; ALLOW US TO DISABLE CHAT, JUST THE CHAT, NOTHING MORE NOTHING LESS.

As a million dollar company, this shouldnt be much to ask, and very easily implemented, so PLEASE, listen to your audience just this once thanks [sg-ahri-2]

TLDR; Add an option to disable chat messages (ACTUAL MESSAGES, NOT PINGS, NOT GOLD AMOUNTS ETC, JUST MESSAGES) And if youre gonna reply, read the whole post over again incase you SOMEHOW didnt quite get it the first time around (Seems to be fairly common)

I know this is hard for some of you to grasp since you NEVER get invested in a game and try your best and get very frustrated and angry when things go south...

Who doesn't get invested? Us? The people who preach keeping a level head on the Player Behavior boards?

Little advice: Don't act like you can speak for other people. The lot of us do get invested, we do get pissed when things go south, we just know how to deal with it without spilling our vitriol into chat.

That line alone is a good enough reason to not take you seriously. If you have to claim outrageous things about others to try and decry their viewpoints or make their arguments look wrong, then what you're talking about is scarcely worth considering.

They get a tilted teammate that writes bad stuff, and i myself get suspended or banned.

You don't get punished for other people's behavior. You get punished for your own.

I think its honestly ridiculous you have to get a 3rd party solution for something as simple as a disable chat button, why has this not been implemented long ago?

I think it's honestly ridiculous that some people can't control themselves and need to turn to 3rd-party solutions to disable the chat button, rather than actively work to try and improve their behavior.

You can change, you just choose not to.

Beyond that, Riot doesn't need to add a button to disable what is pretty much essential to the game. For one, that'd be asinine - if you have random people shutting out the most effective communication tool, then what's the point in having that tool at all? And for two, Riot is under no obligation to coddle and hand-hold people who don't want to change their own behavior.

it is whether you liek(sic) it or not, part of a competitive scene.

No, it is not. Full stop.

If flaming and senseless vitriol were an inherent part of competition, there wouldn't be tournaments, there wouldn't be sports, and there sure as hell wouldn't be the Olympics. Flaming and toxicity are the byproduct of an expectation of respect - something that is inherent to competition.

Whether you like it or not, flaming and toxicity are not part of a competitive scene. You cannot pass it off as such.

But since you do not want people badmouthing, like were all children...

No, not like children, like adults. They're not treating you like a child by asking for even a modicum of respect and basic decency.

...then maybe help the tantrum throwing children (like myself) disable their ability to ruin everythign for themselves and others by writing mean words...

Again: Riot is under no obligation to do YOUR work for YOU. They're not going to handhold, babysit, and mollycoddle people who don't want to change. If you're not willing to change for Riot, Riot doesn't need to change for you.

...since apparently that is the worst offense you can commit in this game.

Melodramatic hyperbole definitely helps your argument. /s

If flaming were the worst offense, it wouldn't net a minimum of a 10-game Chat Restriction, it'd be a permanent ban from the gate. As it stands, the only thing that I know that earns a permanent ban outright is Cheating/3rd-party software use.

Personally i mute anyone whos tilting or just flame back, its always been this way in CSGO, and other games.

But this isn't CS:GO, Call of Duty, Overwatch, TF2, or whatever other game you play.

League has its own rules, and you're expected to abide by them, just as you're expected to abide by the rules of CS:GO or Overwatch or whatever else.

BUT PLEASE help us keep our account alive by allowing us to disable the chat WITHOUT 3rd party solutions!

Alternatively: You help yourself keep your account alive, by actually putting forth the effort to change your behavior.

...so PLEASE, listen to your audience just this once thanks

The people who want the ability to disable chat are a small minority of the audience. And even if they weren't, chat is an integral part of the game, whether you like it or not, so they're not going to make it possible for people to actively avoid it.

You get ignored because it's not a good suggestion.

By your own admission, this is a personal problem. We're all posting on the official forums for a video game, I'm pretty damn sure you can't say that we aren't personally invested in League. We're all in the same situation you're in, but most of us can handle ourselves.

Disabling chat as a toggle option utterly shits on folks like me who actually use chat to shot call or convey strategy. I regularly use chat to say things that pings aren't sufficient for, and yes, it works more often than not. I can only do this because I have a reasonable expectation that the people I'm playing with actually have chat turned on. As soon as Riot implements an opt-out option for chat, I completely lose that expectation, through zero fault of my own since I'm a player in good standing.

How about YOU take it upon YOURSELF to fix the problem on YOUR end?

Riot ignores all those 29123479247 threads because community downvotes all 29123479247 of those threads. No one wants it.

This is more of a personal problem. A couple of speck of people out of millions of players doesn't speak for the community. Every thread of this kind has been downvoted into the oblivious or deleted. If you don't want to use the chat, see people using the chat, then disable it yourself.

You know, you can keep auto hotkey on, disable /all chat from the ingame menu, and then just manually click the mute buttons of your team mates on the scoreboard.

Easily doable while you are going to lane and checking which items people bought.

Riot wants to encourage you to police yourself in these situations. Their goal is to reform toxic players.

They are not babysitters. They step in when you have taken things too far, but they're not going to hold your hand and prevent this behavior outright. To expect them to do so completely removes any sense of responsibility from you.

As someone else said..

How about YOU take it upon YOURSELF to fix the problem on YOUR end?

How old are you? I mean, I never played competitively I think, but I play'ed a lot of early multiplayer games like WoW early 2006(hell jeah, that was fun if you behaved like an asshole on a server ;D I mean ... you know what I'm talking about since you grew up with gaming), Diablo2, Ultima Online, Counter-Strike and a lot of other stuff. Was fun. And if you behaved like an ass ... jeah .. people didn't want to play with you anymore.mhmmmmm

i like how this is a YOU problem and you try to blame it on RIOT

Unbind your enter key and move chat off screen.

Drag and hide chat box out of your view. You can literally hide the whole thing but the top bar. HELL, in your case you don't really need to see it ever again.

All chat is off by default, I recommend d you turn it back off.

Solutions to your flaws are available, the only problem is YOU.

😂 😂 😂 😂

There actually IS a way to disable chat! Take a screwdriver and pop the enter keys out of your keyboard.

Friendly Ram11/12/2018, 12:46:17 AM1 votes

/mute all and they're a couple of scripts that disable the enter key in game.
