Humiliated in my first ever ranked game

Spooder·9/22/2017, 8:26:03 PM·21 votes·3,336 views

This is so fucking unfair. I just hit 30, and started playing my first ever ranked game. Guess what? I got reported. I became a fucking joke. Players telling me I am not enough even for bronze and should be in plastic I, telling me how bad I am, how I should do they tutorials and stuff. no matter what I say. Is it my fault that Riot put me in gold for MY FIRST EVER GAME? Im a nerd. Hours upon hours of research. Why this and why that. Trying my best to memorize the items. Searching for advanced stuff, watching videos, and my first ranked game ever ends in me literally becoming a JOKE and being humiliated no matter what I said.

yes, this is a rent. Im super mad right now. I was so nice, said sorry a bazillion times, played as safe as I could, was super friendly and tried to not be toxic, even when they were. Riot, please. I dont know how this system works. If the MMR for ranked and normal is different, meaning that my MMR was not set prior to this game, you should fix that. No one should start in gold (Atleast thats what they said they were)

Like its my fault that I wasnt placed in plastic, yet.

The vast majority of players are not ready to be playing Ranked as soon as they hit level 30. That was probably your first mistake. If you want to keep playing though you will quickly fall into a rank you more deserve, those first 10 placement games have a huge impact on who you play with and against. You will not be playing against any Gold players after the first two games.

There is someting that you don't understand . When we were at beggin it was very very hard to make lv 30 . If i remember corectly , I have played around 800 games to make lv 30 . Now they changed this and you make lv 30 very fast , you have no time to learn esential things ... Sorry for my bad english , isn't my native language . It's 3rd

Pandemic Punch9/22/2017, 8:41:29 PM10 votes

Just keep playing ranked man. Don't listen to them. Bronze has no business telling someone where they belong. If you enjoy playing ranked, keep playing ranked. The important part is that you enjoy the game.

P.S. Don't listen to or take advice from Bronze players unless it is immediately helpful to you.

Colgate Gator9/22/2017, 8:44:20 PM7 votes

Mute, report and carry on. Although being fair, you shouldn't be playing Ranked if you just hit 30.

13900 Essence9/22/2017, 10:42:57 PM6 votes

I waited like 5 months after I got lvl 30 to play ranked. It really pays off, because the higher you get placed the less you'll have to climb.

I started at Silver 1 towards the end of last season.

Dude I'd be Happy to be Plastic I, That's where all the Best Players play. But in all seriousness, tune them out. Ranked is full of turds & it's even more so now that Season 7 is winding down (I believe Pre-Season 8 starts in Patch 7.22 or 7.23). Here's a movie quote I listened to at the beginning of this years Ranked season that Inspired me to keep going in Ranked. Best of luck to you friend. : )

** "it ain't about how hard ya hit. It's about how hard you can get it and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done! Now if you know what you're worth then go out and get what you're worth."**

Sorry for your bad experience. Heads up, getting reported for playing bad means nothing. You cant get banned for that. Just like getting reported as "killstealer" bcs you play a carry support ( happens to me on a daily basis, never had any negative consequences ). This are useless reports other players use to vent off their anger, and Riot knows and ignores those reports.

You thought you lvled up and are a high lvl player now? No buddy, this is not an MMORPG where max lvl gives you a decent amount of power by itself. You are just starting your journey.

The mechanical difference between bronce and gold is not that high, its all game knowledge. League is one of the, if not the, most complicated games in the world. No Joke. You cant learn that by lvling from 1-30, without proper runes, keystones and summoner spells ( thats Riots fault, they know it and are working to change it ). Plus it is old. Means even the most braindead player who plays a while got some game knowledge.

I op.gg`ed your games. Your CS rate is abysmal. I am bronce 3, by definition a bad player too, and thats just the first thing i noticed. Your deathcount shows me that you have a habit of misspositoning/overstepping. And so on, and so on.

Add those who offered you training to your friendlist and get a crashcourse. You said you are a competitive player who does his homework, you will advance soon. And find the mute button, thats the most important button in the whole game ;)

Welcome to the league of toxicity champion spotlight, featuring the toxic player.

The toxic player is not like most other champions, they have a tendency to ruin games no matter what rank you're at.

The toxic players passive ability is called trolling. This passive is hard to detect because the toxic player won't do super noticeable things, but maybe will afk or feed a few times and then never group with their team or continue to type but not be overly aggressive to get some kind of response from their team or just to quietly ruin the game.

The toxic players Q ability is called Away from keyboard. Combined with the trolling passive can be hard to detect. The toxic player will start to lose their lane or see a teammate has an takes it upon themselves to smash this button off their keyboard. They will walk back to base and give up or sit in their ally jungle for rest of or most of the game.

The next ability for the toxic player is their W ability which gains a bonus if used with their passive. The toxic player feels they need to ruin the game for everyone else for some kind of personal gain or as a way to punish the rest of the team for not playing to their standards. Combined with their passive, it could be hard to detect and go unnoticed. This ability is called Intentionally feeding, where the toxic player just runs into the enemy team or only does it enough to get them ahead.

Next we're moving on to the toxic players E ability Blame game. This unique skill allows the toxic player to call or belittle their teammates and blame them for any and all mistakes that happen during the game. If the toxic player loses their lane, it's some other teammates fault and not theirs in any way, shape, or form. Using this ability will usually trigger their ultimate ability.

The greatest ultimate in League of Toxicity is called Flaming where the toxic player will start to slam on their keyboard, typing almost nonstop reminding their team about how bad they are at the game. How they are better off dead and should off themselves. The toxic player also makes sure they are reminded about every little mistake and how bad they are for it. The toxic player also reminds their team how much better they would be doing if they had a better team. This ultimate comes with a price though as it is easy to see coming and most of the time it's why the toxic player gets banned.

And that's our champion spotlight on the newest... oldest and never going away, toxic player.

Kaeblen9/22/2017, 9:10:51 PM4 votes

play with everyone muted.

people still say those things, no matter how good you are.

Cocho9/23/2017, 4:43:30 AM4 votes

I went through basically the same thing you did.

You're gonna really struggle in your placement games, you're probably gonna get flamed, and after all those struggles, you might not end up with the rank that you want.

I started in bronze 5 lol (I played practice games in the preseason, it lowered my MMR), but im much higher now 2 years later.

Muting people and having thick skin helps, but you gotta just not care. Look at it in the long run. its all about improvement. Just see what you can learn from each game.

If you want to improve fast, I'd suggest to only play 2 roles, and a few champs in those roles. The more you specialize, the better, and faster you'll improve. I see that you spam a champ, then switch to another. Just stick with a couple that you really like.

Make sure you upgrade your runes to tier 3. They're just 10 IP right now. You're using lower tier runes and just giving yourself a disadvantage before the game even starts.

If you're ever curious to what the pros are using, runes, masteries, or builds on a certain champ, this website is pretty good.

Good luck and try not to pour your heart and soul into every game of ranked. I feel like you have to be a bit laid back when playing ranked. Still try but dont get upset at whatever someone says or how the game goes. People dont have self-control, so you gotta have it yourself. Alot about ranked is the attitude. Just having a good one will get you places.

Icy Hot Shoto9/23/2017, 5:29:26 AM3 votes

I just looked at your last 4 ranked games, and these are the KDA's I see. 1/6/2, 9/3/4, 2/8/4, 2/11/21.

For the 2/11/21 score I'm going to guess that was support based off your items, so not much can really be said there. Yes, you died a lot. But you also got almost as many assists as your adc had kills. Your 9/3/4 one was also okay. You had more kills then the enemy adc and managed to stay positive.

But then there's 1/6/2 and 2/8/4. Both with an adc. Going negative on an adc is never good. It puts you behind and makes it harder to impact team fights, as well as gives you the choice to afk farm other lanes and avoid team fights or be "useless" in team fights. Either way, especially in lower elo in ranked, you'll possibly get shit for having those scores. Your farming could also be worked on.

Your best bet is to continue with normals to work on farming on positioning if you're having trouble constantly getting caught in fights. If possible, get a group of 5-9 friends to do customs with that can help you figure out where you're not doing so well in.

I also recommend learning other champions so you'll have a better variety in ranked in case you don't get your preferred role(s). Especially supports, learning a few supports is good rather than just one.

Malothere9/23/2017, 12:29:09 AM3 votes

If your team is being a bunch of wieners just mute them in game and go about your merry way my friend. As long as your not the one being toxic or trolling your teammates you can do what ever you want.

MarvelOtter9/22/2017, 9:17:26 PM3 votes

dont play any more ranked games until end of season tbh, youll get the seasons victorious skin (im assuming you wont stay gold if you keep playing) practice more normals, work on getting more champs, play the competitive long game

PlsTouchMeGently9/22/2017, 9:05:12 PM3 votes

Can I advise you to actually buy boots? That might help.

RisenDarkKnight9/23/2017, 2:52:49 AM3 votes

Don't let them discourage you. You'll get placed into a better mmr for you soon. If you don't already do this, I recommend making liberal use of the mute button on players who are being toxic. If someone calls you bad or is being a jerk in the first few minutes of the game, they are unlikely to contribute something useful in the chat the rest of the game so you are better off muting them.

God of Seas9/23/2017, 8:27:52 AM3 votes

Welcome to ranked soloQ my friend. This will be your gaming life for the next years. At first you will be mad but in time you will be trained to have completely no feelings againts any kind of harassment and personal attack. Enjoy the ride towards becoming a man that words cannot touch.

Lock On9/23/2017, 6:04:22 AM3 votes

You don't have to play ranked to play with a competitive mindset. Ffs you're still learning the game.

FireDrizzle9/22/2017, 9:12:40 PM2 votes

If you point out its messed up for unranked players to get matched with plat and gold, fanboys get off their knees, wipe their mouths and tell you holy ritos matchmaking is perfect.

Shadowynn9/22/2017, 10:07:53 PM2 votes

Everyone's advice (although well meaning) is not addressing the core issue. The issue is OP's feelings and how toxic the players are.

(Directed towards OP)... I'm sorry you had to go through that. There is no need for you to apologize to any of your teammates. Everyone at one point is on this learning curve. It sucks that your teammates flamed you and I hope every single one of them gets punishment.

Cheer up and I hope you feel better soon.

Zaryelle9/22/2017, 10:26:37 PM2 votes

The matchmaking is terrible early on. When you do ranked at 30 the balancing is really bad for a long time. You can get anywhere from unranked to gold, and sometimes plats in your games. The games become far more luck-based than if the teams were actually balanced, whoever gets the golds or plats on their team wins since everyone else is bronze, silver, or unranked they lose. This is why some people refer to it as elo hell the place where matchmaking is at its worst. This happens even if you're not new to ranked for anyone who makes a new account the games are random whoever gets the more golds/plats or smurfs wins.

Telephone Booth9/23/2017, 2:20:42 AM2 votes

This happens to almost everyone and it will continue to happen to you. I just hope you reported them, and didn't insult them back.

My advice; if you are competitive and you want to rank up eventually and see how high on the ladder you can make it, stop now. Stick to normals for a while. Not just because you're not that good or whatever, but because the more you play while you're relatively new, the harder it is going to be to move your MMR up. For instance, this is my main account, I always get placed around b3 every season after placements. After a few years, I finally decided to try ranking on a new account. This new account got placed silver 2. That's because I played as a newb on my main, and the amount of games made it harder to change the average... if that makes sense. The more games played, the less each individual game affects you.

So if you stick to bronze games where you're at, you're probably gonna stay in bronze. All of those games are just hurting your chances of climbing when you actually do improve. You will receive less L.P. for wins, and lose more for losses, because your MMR is probably bronze. So get better first, and then next season, your MMR will start higher and you might get placed higher/be able to climb easier.

Of course, if it's just more fun to play ranked (Which is how I feel) then yeah just play ranked. Overall, I feel they are better for practice because you run into less drunks/high people who don't give a fuck. You get more tryhards in ranked, and playing against tryhards is the best way to efficiently practice.

EL HAMSTERO9/23/2017, 2:32:54 AM2 votes

the best thing this game can teach you is to not care what other people think. do your best have fun and ignore the hate

AmazoX9/23/2017, 8:29:23 AM2 votes

Don't give up, Although a smart thing would be is to improve and practice in normals until you know you can carry crap Gold 5 players you had in your match to victory, Why practice and improve when you can just jump into ranked? You save yourself a lot of trouble if you do well in placement matches.

Sorin Alucard9/23/2017, 2:38:23 PM2 votes

Aight bruh. Shake it off.

I'm not the greatest player ever skill-wise, but I'm gonna hand you the keys to the kingdom of dealing with other players in this game and yourself. Its time to get Zen

1.) You don't need all chat. You can turn it on later when you've become steel against tilt. 2.) You don't need your ally chat for good communication. Pings are much more effective anyway. You've got an enemy vision one, "im going here", enemy missing, caution, etc. Use them all game for everything. It'll help raise your mini map usage and awareness anyway. Don't automatically mute your allies. There are positive players and people willing to help and sometimes someone will make a good point or play call.

BUT (here come the caps so you can burn it in your memory) MUTE. IS. YO. FRIEND. lol AS SOON AS YOU GET A WHIFF OF NEGATIVITY, MUTE. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT get baited into having pointless conversations or waste your time reading a stream of insults/pettiness. The saying here is MUTE. REPORT. MOVE ON.

3.) Those players not focused on winning or staying positive (ragers, flamers, trolls,) are now "Dog Poo" (not literally this is a mental technique). You know Dog poo exists. You don't like dog poo, but when you come across dog poo you don't freak out. You say "oh look, some poo.", and you go about your day. The same applies to any player who is muteworthy. Don't waste your time hating. You're here to play the game. Those who don't are simply poo for Riot to pick up via report. Not your problem.

Would you play with the poo and expect it to be a more pleasant experience lol? then don't listen or engage with negative conversations in league XD

4.) You can only control yourself. This you must keep it mind so you don't become the player we just talked about. Not everyone is at the same skill level, and sometimes people can be good and they just happen to be having a shitty shitty game in the one they matched with you. Unless you yourself have something positive to say don't say it. rage aloud if you have to, but in game be Zen, be encouraging. If you lose, let it go. There are an infinite amount of possible future games.

5.) League is about consistency and objectives, not individual wins and KDA. KDA is nice, but don't fall into the thought trap of it equates skill. Even a streak of 4 or 5 games shouldn't deter you. If you feel yourself going on a losing streak, just break. You may stay Zen in game but if you get 3 back to back trolls you might want some air IRL. Just keep making sure you keep your cs up, your deaths down, focus on towers and dragons. If it seems like you're stuck do more research and practice.

Hope this helps.

Eric Senpai9/23/2017, 7:46:23 PM2 votes

Report your teammates for verbal abuse, you may have to utilize the /mute all function in the future. My main gripe is that players you muted in game will be unmuted in the post game lobby.

Anyways, I think you should either keep playing ranked (the fastest thought not necessarily the best way to improve) until your mmr is adjusted or just play normals and get the gold reward for the season.

Champion Skin9/24/2017, 12:33:56 AM2 votes

/mute all

People almost never say anything useful.... and most useful information you get from pings anyways

Then just focus on playing the game be it for having fun or trying to climb or what have you (and yes you can play ranked just for fun after all it is the same as normal draft with some shiny stuff tacked on and if you don't care about that shiny stuff then why bother taking ranked any more seriously then normal draft?)

Kei1439/22/2017, 10:40:18 PM1 votes

A year and a half ago, I asked GhostCrawler how important MMR splash is across different game modes. He responded that it is extremely important, but whether Riot actually got around to adjust the MMR codes remains a unknown.

Personally, I think they've adjusted some of it, probably not enough.

Currently the players in gold have a pretty large gap compared to the plastics. Not only the difference in game knowledge, but the runes that long time players have over the new players makes a huge difference as well. Runes Reforged in preseason should help adjust some of that, but the question still is whether they would have proper MMR splash between each game modes.

They currently haven't invested too much time for the systems catered for new players (hi2u, Ashe with Thornmail), maybe it's cos the playerbase for new players is actually pretty small, and they get a better bang for their buck for implementing something else.

I read this and felt really sorry for you since you seemed so nice from what i could read out of the text.

happy to see you in plat by now, leaving all those ragers behind!

Ok wow. I left this discussion after seeing a few replies thinking its going to be dead in a few hours. Was I wrong. I wish I had the time and effort to reply to every single comment here. Thanks. Alot. People from other games always say league's community is the worst, but reading these comments I just feel greatful. Thank you, for every single one of you that took your time to write these detailed, and mosty positive posts (even the short ones were really useful) It feels good to see people care. Thanks. Alot.

Gilded Elo9/23/2017, 8:01:16 PM1 votes

Just reading this i can tell that you're low iq and bad. Don't play ranked if you suck. But keep practicing dude you can always get better :)

NOHITDETECTIO2K9/23/2017, 8:03:26 PM1 votes

If you're going to try to play ranked, I got some bad news for you: The toxicity doesn't get any better no matter how good or bad you are. Get used to it. If you have a good game, and a good stretch of games and you are able to climb, then you won't get BM, well someone on the team will, just not you. That one bad game, and suddenly no matter how good you've done, or anything positive will matter to a toxic teammate. They will talk shit, its the nature of ranked in League of Legends. Mute button, muteall command is simply it. Unless you got friends you climbing with, mute everyone. Real spill. Sorry to break the news to ya, ranked aint a friendly environment. Sometimes it is, but 90% of the time games are more serious than life to some players.

Maiziea9/23/2017, 5:25:13 AM1 votes

Just don't mind them, the game takes practice so just keep playing, normals if you like (there's absolutely no reason to play ranked other than wanting to reach a certain rank)

And FYI gold players are thrash at the game if you're serious about learning, since you mentioned doing research and everything... you'll be able to beat them in no time.

Just don't take it to heart but do take their advice, just learn the game, it's pretty straight forward but there's a massive learning curve to it, try again next season if you're comfortable :).

Most people do bad in their first ranked games btw :p it's generally a bad idea to start right after getting 30.

aznDanny9/23/2017, 5:18:15 AM1 votes

Ignore toxics and move on, Flex is full of toxic players for no reason, flex is pointless unless you wanna do a 5 man serious ranked team, but people always get mad and blame someone 24/7 while just complaining about you feeding.

Sagan Forever9/23/2017, 3:43:29 AM1 votes

If you have friends that play league then play with them using discord or a simular program. Seeing what someone better than you or hearing how they think about the game will help a lot. I started ranked when I first hit lvl 30 and I dropped to bronze 4, then did not play for alwhile. A lot of it is just understanding matchups and how teams interact until you do not have to think about it anymore.

Ps I do not understand how you got gold it is common to start in high bronze or low silverunless the game thinks you are a smurf.

bloodybadger19/23/2017, 10:05:27 PM1 votes

People are idiots. Ignore the dummies and remember ranked has a huge learning curve compared to your norms.
