Is there any point to a "Player X has crashed!" notification in-game?

Ever get Bugsplatted or BSOD'd during a match and then everyone assumes the worst of you? "F#cking leaver troll!" and the like are often associated with people who have technical problems beyond their control.

So why doesn't the game let people know if someone has crashed? Can it not tell the difference, or is it deliberately not added in because of a lack of usefulness?

I am not sure if it knows the difference between leaving the game and getting bugsplat and not but there is a 2nd issue even if it can. The majority of the times I am unable to keep playing in league is due to a loss of internet. This doesn't result in bugsplat. If the notification changed then everyone would assume that people who didn't get a crashed message purposefully quit the game. This would include people who lost internet connection. This couldn't be detected because it would be the same to the server as if they had just turned off their computer. It is an annoying issue but with the way computer connections work there is no way around this that doesn't help out purposeful leavers or hurt people who lose internet. Sucks but there just isn't a way around it.

It doesn't know the difference. There are probably a few ways it could identify the difference in some cases, but realistically you can always pull the plug on your internet and it will always come up as a disconnect. So any effort to differentiating between rage quitting and disconnecting is pretty useless.

I doubt anyone who is raging over your AFK would care anyway. They are mad that you made them lose, the reason is probably not high up on their list of cares.
