We're probably at the point that only Scripting, Boosting and Botting should be a permaban.

If someone is toxic, permanently chat ban them. If someone trolls/intentionally feeds, strip them of the right to play Ranked or earn any rewards. Maybe even make event icons (see: Project Icons) that are available for IP and RP only available for RP, and make them ineligible for content that they can unlock through event assignments.

And while you're at it, add in the ability to mute specific players' pings.

I've never been chat blocked, or had a queue timer, or a suspension. Nothing. This isn't coming from a personal perspective whatsoever. This is coming from someone who doesn't think a game reliant on microtransactions should be permabanning people invested enough in the game to make and continue to make said microtransactions.

Sure, if someone has never spent a cent on the game you can go ahead and ban them because they've made no actual financial investment in their account. Otherwise, you're just gimping your own revenue stream.

First, Riot doesn't participate in the whole "paying players get special treatment" when it comes to punishment, nor will they ever.

And secondly, no. If you break the rules enough, you get permabanned. Period. The community does not want those players, Riot doesn't want those players, and they violated the TOS so they lost the privilege to ever play on that account.

Nah. Toxic players don't deserve to play the game. Don't like it? Then don't be toxic. Nah. Intentional feeders don't deserve to play the game. Don't like it? Then don't intentionally feed.

??? It's irrelevant whether or not people spend money. They're not paying for a ban immunity. They're paying for something else that they mutually agree to that they're paying for THAT.

Nah. It's irrelevant whether or not someone pays money or how much they spend.

Riot essentially used to do that and it just made people vent their frustration by other means, i.e. trolling/feeding. The idea sounds good on paper, but by experience it just doesn't work out.

If someone trolls/intentionally feeds, strip them of the right to play Ranked or earn any rewards.

Because who cares about normals being able to enjoy the game, right?

Otherwise, you're just gimping your own revenue stream.

No, they're not. It's a simple principle: If somebody is hindering other peoples' enjoyment of your product, their money is irrelevant. Even if I was to spend a thousand bucks on a restaurant per month, I'd get kicked out, and very likely banned, if I treat all their other customers like shit every time I go there. The money I give them might be large in comparison to other average customers, but it's peanuts when compared to the the amount all those other customers spend (or would spend) that I alienate with my behaviour.

The money a toxic player would put into his account if there were no permabans doesn't compare to the amount of money Riot can make if they actually try to keep their game enjoyable.

Edit: And all of that is ignoring the fact, that in a game like this, even a non-paying player is extremely valuable to Riot. Every additional player, paying or not, makes it so:

  • Queue times are shorter
  • Matchmaking is more accurate
  • Report system is more accurate
  • League of Legends is talked about more
  • More interaction on social media
  • etc.

And thus ultimately every non-paying player still increases Riots revenue, by making the game on average more enjoyable, increasing the efficiency of some of their systems and facilitating advertisement.

League of Legends is what it is mostly because of its large player base. And the majority of that player base never paid for anything.
