There's a difference between defeatists, no vote trolls, and logically voting on surrenders.

If the player gives up after 1st blood, someone misses their ult, when their team is clearly winning etc, that's a defeatist.

If the player is voting no to surrenders in a 4v5 or when one player on the other team has been able to 1v5 for the past 10 minutes, that's a no vote troll

If the player wants to surrender because the enemy Fizz can 1 shot your full MR tanks/doesn't want to surrender because we have supers flooding their base even though we lost a fight, that's someone voting logically.

You're not being held hostage if the game is actually winnable. You're being an asshole if you're voting no in games where you're losing so badly your team can't actually play the game.

The only way to "logically" vote on surrenders in a self-consistent manner is always voting no, because there is always a finite chance of winning the game due to completely unforeseen circumstances, so voting yes lowers your chance of winning regardless of the circumstances.

The vast majority of players - regardless of whether they vote yes or no - don't vote "logically", though. They decide intuitively based on their own subjective preferences/priorities. And that's okay. That's why there's a vote.

The important thing is not to be so delusional as to believe that your own voting pattern is the only one devoid of bias and call people who would vote differently "defeatists" and "no vote trolls" respectively.

Either of those cases can still be turned around tho

there is a difference between can't play and won't play. everyone can play a losing game some players won't play a losing game.

Do you think with the positional MMR (normals and ranked) splits coming up in S9, would you think you'll see less scenarios of those 1v5 cases or defeatist attitudes?

How do you think player behavior would change?

If someone's been able to 1v5 for 10 minutes, and the game isn't ended yet, they don't know how to end the game. This is a big weakness of many players who main assassins. Once they're at full build, they can't get stronger, so your team will catch up in items eventually. They'll also be the majority of their team's gold, so rotating around him, or catching him out will give your team the advantage.

Or, if they're been (self-proclaimed) "carrying" their team, they'll generally be much more susceptible to tilt if you manage to make the score of one of their teammates look poor.
