About the punishment system

I will start by saying I am toxic.I indeed flamed a lot and I recently got a 25 games chat restrict which without doubt I deserved it. I feel like the people who flame should be punished but there is a good amount of times when these people were put in the position to do it and had reasons to do it. The system for toxicity just searches the chat logs of the game after an amount of reports were issued by players in a small amount of time. What bothers me the most it's that the flame was just mean of simply defending oneself.Players that spam ping someone without reason and after blame the player are just the usual. When you try to communicate with them and tell them your motive why you did a certain play, they will simply not care even though it's them that started this. They will refuse to have a discusion with arguments so that we solve our team problems civilised. They will just type something like "ok :D" that means in their head that they are simply superior,so good that there is no reason to back up their own afirmations.Following this they will ping your dead timer, bitch about how you play to the enemy team.If you are a laner or jg they can even come to your lane and steal your farm.I am certain that these players rarely get real penalties since there is no system implemented to punish them.On the other hand the ones that initially tried to be nice and solve the problem get fed up and just retaliate using insults. The system cant figure out bm or passive agressive players but they will for sure find the toxic words used by a player and issue the punishments. Again,I am all for it.This kind of behaviour should be punished. On the other hand ,there is more to a story than just the bad words used .There is a context for it,there is a chain reaction.

Without trying to prove that I was a victim I will describe you how the game that most probably got me this chat restrict went. We were in champ select and there were 2 more roles left:adc and sup.I called adc first but I still asked the other guy if he would like to play adc instead of sup.He said no but when the time came for him to pick me a support he got me shaco.I wasnt really mad at this point and I didnt say a word to him.Game starts, the lane is obviously losing to a proper sup/adc combination and not long after this shaco decides that he needs to roam and never came back botlane. As kalista you well know that without your bonded ally your ult is useless, you lose the percent hp and attack speed from w and overall your champion is really weak.Still didnt say a word to anybody. The tower starts to fall,I die a few times ,get near to 0 farm. Do you think the team is trying to come to my lane and help me get back in the game?Of course not. They simply throw he classic:"Stay under tower and farm".More and more towers start to fall and still you are to blame even though you did what they said, you stayed under tower and tried to farm. Recap:I get a non support as support that abbandons me really early in the game.Get put in an awful position as 1 vs 2 and on top of it ,get blammed for the way things go on this lane. How can any sane person just stay and continue playing this ?Most people I saw in a similar situation would just go base and afk.I just died and died trying to get farm or push towers since I was so much behind even the support could kill me. Final score was 1-17 and only I was to blame for getting angry in a situation 1 or more of my teammates created.

My point is if people that behave inapropriate should get punished, at least do it properly .In my opinion trolling ,refusing to cooperate are the real issues that need to be adressed, not someone typing random bad words. You can always mute the respective person but you have 0 control over trolling people. The game experience itself will get affected by this and it's not anywhere close punished as much as flamming.

Riot punishes trolling harshly when it is confirmed. The problem is that it's hard to confirm sometimes, especially since they do not (rightly, in my opinion) enforce a single "correct" way of playing. A support leaving lane is fine. A support leaving lane to troll their carry is less so.

Toxicity, however, is never a defense. I have never -- and that's since pre-season one -- seen a situation where toxicity against a troll accomplished anything other than making them troll the same or harder AND gave us another toxic player as well. It's not a defense: it's an outpouring of negativity and frustration that is better kept outside the in-game chat.

I deal with these toxic people the same as you. The reason I have not received a chat ban in 6 seasons of play is because I just mute pings/chat from people who start acting toxic.

Those who flame are very unlikely to actually have something beneficial to say to the team.

Those trolls and griefers do get reported too.

But at the same time, you should get punished for your actions too.

but there is a good amount of times when these people were put in the position to do it and had reasons to do it.

There is never a good reason. No reason is acceptable. You can't force others to flame, just as they can't force you to flame. No one can put anyone in a position where they have to flame.

The system for toxicity just searches the chat logs of the game after an amount of reports were issued by players in a small amount of time.

It searches after every report. It's just that if you have a lot of games in a short period of time with some negativity there is a higher chance of punishment.

What bothers me the most it's that the flame was just mean of simply defending oneself.

Defending yourself =/= flaming back. It means muting and moving on. Not only are you wasting your own time, you are also wasting everyone elses time. Even those who do not deserve it. By flaming back you put yourself on the same level as the agressor. You contribute to a bad environment, which is why the system wont care if you were "defending yourself". It's just not a excuse for flaming.

Players that spam ping someone without reason and after blame the player are just the usual.

Which would be why they introduced ping muting. Some players hate muting pings because it's such a important tool for communication (which is understandable), but if it gets you to the point of flaming it's not worth it.

When you try to communicate with them and tell them your motive why you did a certain play, they will simply not care even though it's them that started this. They will refuse to have a discusion with arguments so that we solve our team problems civilised. They will just type something like "ok :D" that means in their head that they are simply superior,so good that there is no reason to back up their own afirmations.Following this they will ping your dead timer, bitch about how you play to the enemy team.

I agree, it's absolutely annoying but at the same time it's not that hard (atleast for me) to ignore it. I usually laugh it off. I know many other players can't just do that, but it's the best option. If they are especially annoying, mute them.

If you are a laner or jg they can even come to your lane and steal your farm.I am certain that these players rarely get real penalties since there is no system implemented to punish them.On the other hand the ones that initially tried to be nice and solve the problem get fed up and just retaliate using insults.

That's because it's EXTREMELY hard to prove intent. Intent in chat is almost irrelevant. If someone writes "fuck you idiot" and they also get reported, it's almost certain that intended to harm.

But it's just not easy to prove intent in cases like you described. Luckily, the system is getting better everyday. Every report you send, teaches the system what is ok, and what is not. The system gets shaped by what the players want.

Again,I am all for it.This kind of behaviour should be punished. On the other hand ,there is more to a story than just the bad words used .There is a context for it,there is a chain reaction.

But all toxicity contribute to a negative environment, and such all toxicity is punished. No matter the context. There is no context where being toxic does not contribute to a toxic environment. And such there is no context where muting someone contributes to a toxic environment.

[Im not copying your game]

You should have kept silent. Tried to play to the best of your ability. No amount of flaming will make others do what you say. Actually flaming is more likely to make them do what you don't want, as to get a reaction from you.

My point is if people that behave inapropriate should get punished, at least do it properly .In my opinion trolling ,refusing to cooperate are the real issues that need to be adressed, not someone typing random bad words.

Two different system handle in game behaviour (feeding, not cooperating) and chat.

Chat is VERY easily detected. There is almost doubt that someone is toxic, if they were overly negative in chat.

On the other hand, as I explained earlier, detecting intent is INSANELY hard. (Not to say that some cases arent easy, there has definently been times where someone obvisously should have been punished.) But it's getting better.

You can always mute the respective person but you have 0 control over trolling people.

Why not follow your own advice then?

The game experience itself will get affected by this and it's not anywhere close punished as much as flamming.

It's punished harsher than flaming. But it's not detected as easily. A feeder won't get a chat restriction for feeding, whereas a flamer will.

I'm going to be honest, I only read about 2 sentences. I didn't need to read the rest though, I already knew what it was. If you are toxic, you get the punishment. Period. Other players may be toxic, that doesn't mean you have to retaliate. Riot gave us a mute button. THEN they gave us a button to mute pings. There is NO excuse for flaming and being toxic.
