Refusal to surrender in an obvious 4v5 lose, is it toxic?

So my first match today I got a 4v5. No remake option, our mid loaded and stayed around just around just long enough to prevent it.

So when it was obvious we were going to get #rekt. I was still not surprised to see 2 no votes out of 4 at every surrender. And the 2 who were no voting? They were non-stop blaming our support for his mistakes against a blitzcrank in a 4v5 at low bronze. Verbal abuse, harassment, foul language, hate messages all of it. I sent two reports after the eventual defeat about 27 minutes or so.

For starters why is it even a VOTE to surrender when you have an AFK 4v5 match for 15+ minutes. Rito has acknowledged that they consider this an inherently unfair situation, YET their toxic design actually forces players to stick around in match like this. I see this all too often and the no-voters are typically the ones who are the most toxic often trying to blame the remaining players for their misfortune. Why are tryhards allowed to hold the rest of us hostage in these sort of situations? It's this sort of attitude that got Japan nuked... twice. It's only game, accept it when you're gonna lose.

Rito plz

Shitty situation, and you have my sympathy, but let's break it down:

  1. 4v5s are possible, especially in low ELOs. Not easy, quite hard in fact, but possible. It's very reasonable for some players to want to try to play from behind and get their win if they perceive that they're better than the enemy team even at a disadvantage in numbers.

  2. Flamers gonna flame. AFKers gonna AFK.

  3. You lost at 27 minutes. That's only seven minutes of being "held hostage", or 12 if you include the possibility of a unanimous 15 minute surrender. Not a huge loss.

So, in service to sparing you 7-12 extra minutes of discomfort, what system could be implemented that wouldn't be abused?

Not toxic at all. Actually, I think surrender shouldn't be an option at all. If I could count how many times I've seen the winning team is just chasing kills and CS up till the point when the losing team is reaching full level and builds and things are balancing out. Then they just lose a teamfight and with the 50+ sec deathtimers the "losing" team is walking into their base and win. I only surrender when our team is dead and they will take the nexus faster than our respawns - but even then I gave them the joy of finishing the match usually.

Woah there buddy. I don't think that's appropriate for this board. Just letting you know that you shouldn't be posting analogies like this or else you might get banned on the boards. A 4v5 is really frustrating when it happens but the best thing you can do is report whoever is toxic, ignore them and move on.

I'm Only sorry for not surrendering in that situation if we lose. I have won more 4v5 and 3v5 than I can count it simply requires a team effort.

FYI. If you sit in the fountain after loosing a 4 man surrender vote.
Your acting like a baby grow up and play the game

Voting is not a toxic design. The vote is intentionally only a 70% or higher vote (1/1, 2/2, 3/3, 3/4, 4/5) to ensure that people are able to surrender even if one person on their team is not wanting to.

However, it is a vote because if one (or more) people do not want to surrender the game, it is a waste of their time to surrender, make them take a loss, queue again, etc. just because some people are fed up with the game. When you queue for a game, you queue with the understanding you may enter an up to 60+ minute game that may or may not have you getting fed/carrying the game. You may very well not be having a good time in the game, and it may not be fun for you. However, that is not an excuse to ruin the fun that others may still be trying to have in the game.

While it sucks, in situations where you are 4v5, remember that the 5th person may very well be coming back. Even people who ragequit come back to games more often than you might think. At that point, it's very winnable. Even before they come back, it's possible to win a 4v5 if you have good attitudes and communication.

Best of luck to you!
