There's some great advice in here but I think a lot of it focuses on the surface level, the symptoms of whatever's getting you riled up in game. I would recommend taking a long, hard look at yourself and identifying what is causing you to flame. I'll try sharing some stuff that has worked for me in the past.

Is it your environment, are you stressed out at home/work/school and this is an outlet for that stress? Find a healthy way to relieve that stress - be it exercise, meditation, music - just find what works for you and helps you shake off that edge before you get in game (I also find that when these factors are stressing me out it carries over into my IRL interactions - so fixing it can be really important).

Is it the game itself? Are you just not enjoying League right now? It's totally fine to take a break - a few hours, days, weeks. Just make sure that you're spending your time on League because you're enjoying it, not just because you need something to spend time on. Take a break, find another hobby, play another video game. League will still be here when you come back! I've been playing for over 7 years and there have been times where I just really wasn't enjoying it - and that carried over into my interactions in game.

Is it the competitiveness? League can get pretty intense when things are on the line - be it LP, self esteem, etc. Find a way to channel that intensity and competitiveness in a constructive way. I'm extremely competitive and often find myself getting frustrated when things aren't going my way - the best way I found to handle that frustration was to focus inwards. The only thing in League that you can actually control is yourself - your actions, your decisions, your mechanics. Getting mad at things you can't control is about as useful as getting mad at the weather (all it does is make you even more frustrated, it certainly doesn't change the weather). In ranked I focus intently on my own performance: I set personal objectives for every game (I'm going to Thresh Flay every JarvanIV E-Q combo I can, hit 100 CS by 10 minutes, keep the river warded for the entire laning phase, etc.) so the only thing I am competing against is myself and my own expectations. Every game is not a quest for ELO (keeping this mindset can get tough when it comes to end of season grinds, I won't lie), but a chance to improve myself and perform better than I did the game before.

Sorry if this got kind of rambly, I hope it helps. Happy to chat more! _EDIT: Added a TL;DR. _

TL;DR: Take some time off and reflect on what's causing you to rage at your teammates. Fix that, then come back to League! Introspection is your best defense against toxicity.

  1. Disable all chat. This is life changing.
  2. Literally mute everyone on your team the second you get in game.
  3. Let everyone know in lobby that you will be doing this to avoid negativity but that you will use and respond to pings. You'll do your best to get ahead/roam/support/whatever you do to get your team ahead early.

This is literally it. Take chatting away from yourself before you even have the opportunity to send or read toxic chats in game.

Ive had a chat ban twice in my 4 years of playing league, every since ive gotten creative with my insults i havent gotten any more chat bans in over 18 months. Now whenever i get angry at a teammate i just get very creative with my insults like "i hope you burn your toast" "your armpits are nasty" "i hope you step on a lego" and silly stuff like that. Most people will just chuckle, and you dont get reported, even if you do get reported the report system wont see anything wrong. The chat report system mostly just looks for all forms of sexist, racist, cursing, telling people to harm or kill themselves or family and friends. So if you avoid saying those things you should be fine. Just get creative with your insults "dear sir your skills are similar to that of a mr potato head" Good luck man hope that helped a little

People should not have to hide who they are or be ashamed for being upset at their team mates. Its natural to want to lash out at people doing dumb shit. I just got my account perma-banned because these weasels at riot cant handle some curse words and a man expressing him self. FUCK RIOT. You nerds will no longer get any more of my money and your game will slowly die when you perma-ban players for being upset at their dumb team mates. Also, they will perma ban you without any warning of doing so, even if you have spent hundreds or thousands of dollars on the game.

I just flame Riot on the boards. I started when they offered to help with the "packet loss" on the boards. They still haven't responded to me. So ever since I just flame Riot for putting me in shitty queue's with people that flame and feed. I've demoted from Silver 1 to Silver 3 because of toxic people "Griefing" and inting, and I've reported every single person that's done it. Now that I've reported all these people Riot just thinks I report everyone. It's not my fault I'm in a queue where EVERYONE is reportable.

Like everyone has said, muting everyone helps reduce the chances of flaming because you don't see what people type so you can't really respond.

Disabling all chat is also helpful because you don't see enemy taunts in the chat. They can still BM you or what not in game but you can't really help that.

However, what really is the problem is self control... You need to be able to not type out to people and control yourself. Take that frustration and channel it into something else. Talk it out or maybe use that frustration as fuel for another hobby. If league gets you worked up, stop playing, and go do something else that consumes that frustration for a positive result (like art, music, exercise, etc)

Tyler1?

Just kidding. Sometimes it's good to take a breather. You know, go for a walk, or play another game. Or wank it, that's how I solve MY salt troubles.

type "/mute all" without quotations as soon as the game starts

I have the same issue, I get pissed when I get teammates who ruin the game by feeding. But you are expected to be positive and tell them good job?

SwiftSwifties 8/9/2017, 6:13:43 AM1 votes

What i did mate was just troll every single game, or play champs that are 2 sided. People wont mess with you if you play a champ like bard where you have the power to ruin your teams game or if you go kench kindred jarvan taliyah champs like that 2 sided champs that people mess with and you can troll people with. Its more of a threat then anything else, they just wont mess with you as much.

Now a days I go passive aggressive usually using the word like wtf or please stop dieing or Just FF PLEASE but if some one rage at me I usually go W.E or if they talk smack with rank I would just tell them you speak real high for a silver then follow up with a W.E and ignore them all game.

I rage in some games but not to the core with verbal any more in 85% of them.

  1. /mute all
  2. Also, you can move the chat box with your cursor. Try to move it to somewhere which you won't be able to type.
