Permaban - A Year Later

I have a friend who got his account permabanned a little over a year ago. He was extremely toxic, and the ban was very well deserved. Although, over the last year I've watched him slowly reform on his smurf. At first, he was about as toxic as he was with his main. Would flame anyone who disagreed with him, or took cs or whatever. But slowly he stopped. Then he didn't even respond to people flaming him, he actually used the mute button.

Today, he actually got his smurf to honor level 5. I witnessed someone flaming him so hard, even I probably couldn't have resisted to flame back. But he asked, "How can I do better?". I was blown away to see this transformation. It also saddened me to know he'll most likely never see his account he's had since season 2, with over $1,300 USD spend on it.

Are there any miraculous stories of people getting their account unbanned? I'm really upset to see that this reform, this amazing transformation is nearly futile for him. I've told him he should try to appeal, and prove that he hasn't been toxic for months. But he believes it'd be for naught. Would it help if I sent in a ticket vouching for him, since I witnessed his transformation with my own eyes? If anyone has any ideas, let me know.

Thanks for reading if you got this far. Have a great day. :)

You can always try submitting a support ticket but it is very rare an account will be unbanned, it's amazing that he reformed though and even if he doesn't get his old account back his new account can become his main.

No it is not. Thanks to him reforming he still gets to play the game, instead of having his new accounts banned for continuous poor behavior. Yea it sucks that he lost an account he spend over $1,300 on, but that is his own fault. Think about all the players your friend ruined the game for. Just because he is acting like a normal person now doesn't excuse his past behavior.

Returning permabanned accounts after reforming only shows that there are no lasting consequences to toxic behavior. Players can be toxic, get banned, reform and continue playing like nothing happened.

If he really reformed and Riot can see proof of this in his last 30 games or so, then I agree he should get his old account back as a reward.

I never understood why Riot banns accounts on which have been send so much money. It's like selling a car to someone then see's he abused the car and takes it back without a money refund... (no experience with it btw)

I feel like if you have proven you have reformed yourself Riot should allow you to redeem previous accounts.

There is a lot of toxicity in this game and believe or not a lot of that toxicity is enabled because or the game itself or Riot policies.

Glad to see him reformed.

One day I'll be reformed. Well I guess I kinda am. Made it from 0 honor to 3 in 2 months so I guess that is progress.

Couldn't have done it myself with out the mute button!

No you're not getting your account back.

Its nice to know that he has reformed, but sadly a punishment is a punishment. Permanent bans means just that Permanent. If it wasnt and anyone could get their accounts back there would be no point in such a punishment. And like others have said it would show the people who do break the rules (and never learn) that there is no "real" consequences. If anyone could show reform, what is stopping someone from just faking it? They get their account back and go right back to being toxic, or breaking any of the other rules.

While I hate to be the squall that rains on a parade, this sadly is very unlikely to happen. Riot’s already been down this path before, and it simply hasn’t worked well.

At some point in the past, Riot hosted a pilot Reform program. They took some of the most prominent, most toxic players in League and attempted to work with them, offer them a second chance. They constructed a program to help these players improve their attitudes.

And regrettably for us all, it was by and large considered a failure. The vast majority of players who took part in the program failed to show any significant or lasting improvements to attitudes and behavior.

I’m not doubting your friend when I say this. I have no doubt that some people can and do reform. But not only must we face the consequences of our past actions, but the likelihood of Riot granting such a request is slim to none.
