Rank Shaming: An detailed explanation as to why it's absolutely horrendous.

So I've known that this was an issue but I wanted to bring it up because I witnessed it in a recent game. To give context the player in this game was the enemy game who referred to our team as "silvers". We threw banter around between teams. Our team would make errors, being too tunnel visioned. For example we contested baron when a darius was in our base split pushing. The Vayne said some derogatory things about our macro (I have censoring on so idk what exactly they said only it was censored) and called us silvers. So now I'm go over why I think NO ONE should do this.

  1. Rank has some inaccuracy now Smurfing is problem, and so is boosting. Both of these involve hiding one's true skill level and cheating the ranking system. So rank is not entirely accurate anyway

  2. Judging someone based on their skill in a video game is immature. I don't need to explain that.

  3. People have different skill levels and that's okay. Telling people that their awful at the game or anything of the such is setting unrealistic expectations for people in lower skill levels. Sure some people are awful, but using this to insult them is just plain mean

  4. If you have to one up someone by mentioning their measured skill in a video game then I pity you, you should not need to do that just to gain personal security that you achieved something.

  5. If someone is of a higher elo (plat and above) and they make a mistake in game saying that they don't deserve said rank is horrendous. Everyone makes mistakes, even Esports players in professional matches.(I remember seeing a video of a Jayce who used item 2420 when no one was around). So don't expect everyone to be perfect, if someone keeps making the same mistake mention this mistake and offer a solution.

So that's all I really have to say. See ya, and remember, don't rank shame people!

Most rankshamers I encountered are either hadrstuck players(500+ games in one elo) or smurfs that are actually losing to lower elos players.

That's why I will never play normals anymore. I played a lot of them when I started playing but then switched to playing ranked only. After many years I got a bit tired of playing ranked only and I needed some change of pace so all I wanted was just to have some fun without any pressure playing normals again, trying out some champions I never play and stuff. Back then I started my journey in bronze but my current rank is diamond and because I never played any normals for the last 5 years or so I only played with and against bronze/silver people (which I don't mind at all). First game after I died for the third time my entire team flamed me nonstop for using a boosted account. This behaviour continued for the next two games. So yeah I'm done with it.
