Players Responsibility?

Do Players when playing ranked have a responsibility to care about the game and play their best. Aka is "Not caring and not trying an except-able way to play in ranked?" I feel as though players are obligated to care and try their best when playing ranked. And, to what extent are players actually responsible for the outcome of their play? Is picking Generally Considered Weak or nonviable roles/positions with champions because they don't care about the game acceptable? Is refusal to play a role as intended because you got auto filled acceptable?

Well, each player is responsible for making an honest effort to win regardless of the game mode, ranked or otherwise. However, off-meta play is not punishable; if the player is actually not trying to win, rather than just playing something that objectively is not good in that role, that is different and they can be held accountable for trolling (the problem is that it can be incredibly difficult to impossible to prove it).

this is basic a good general answer to your post . I jsut wanted to be a specific on a few points because i been deal with peoples "opinions" on so called "ranked seriousness" for years and it's one of my biggest pet peeves.

this first point I would like to touch on is

{quoted} Is refusal to play a role as intended because you got auto filled acceptable?

Depends on what you mean by that if you mean if you get support you have to pick a support champ then no that is not "refusal to play the role".

In this case as long as you are making a honest "support" the team with any champ ( not necessarily playing bot) in some way you are fulfilling the role

again there is nothing that actually defines supporting it would be up to Riot alone to decide if that "honest attempt" was there based on their guidelines if it came down to that,

{quoted} Is picking Generally Considered Weak or nonviable roles/positions with champions because they don't care about the game acceptable?

No its a video game played for fun ( yes even in ranked and no "fun" is not just restricted to "normals and other modes")

If one player only wanted to play "one" champion then they are allowed to only play "one" champion in any lane and role in the game . If is in a ranked they must make an honest attempt to play that particular assigned roles function. That does not mean they have to be "good" at that particular role.

Here we are again! The case of “Unusual Pick that Throws A Game on Its head” vs “The Teammates going WTF Is Going On”.

If you’re just tuning in we previously covered this topic with a similar case in December: “Support Singed isn't bannable, but that's not the point”.

We feel that the situation between these two edge cases are very similar. But it’s obvious we need to keep updating a few processes to smooth out any rare repeats in the future. And rare is what we’d call this; it’s a very unique edge case that seems to only present itself once every few months among thousands of audits that we process.

Let’s re-iterate our stance from before:

Q: Can I get banned for choosing a champion or strategy that is outside the current meta?

A: 100% no. Choosing a champion or strategy outside of the current meta is not a factor we take into account when reviewing accounts. On any given day tens of thousands of players are making unusual picks in the game and they’ll never receive penalties in any form.

In other words...

  • If you want a "serious team"
  • if you want team that plays like their lives depend on it .
  • If you want to play meta
  • if you want to have a coordinated team that communicates the way a pre made or pro team does.

simple solution

stop playing with random people if it s stressing you out and jsut play with a premade team you "have confidents" in.

stop playing with random people if it s stressing you out. There is a premade option for a reason.

Solo que Ranked ( or any mode for that matter)

is great if your definition of "fun" does not rest on the status or out come of the game but the enjoyment of simply "playing" the game regardless of what is happening during it.

If you can have fun during a game regardless if there are afk's or intentional feeders then they lose all power, winning is great everyone likes winning also if you have fun during the game the losses are still enjoyable.

( again ....no "fun" is not restricted to just normal.... anyone can join any solo que for any reason)

Simply put Some players simply play ranked not because they care about "ranked prestige" but because it is more "profitable" than playing normal.... for example would someone get a champ / ward skin from playing normal all year ...no ...they would get nothing but the "normal rewards" you get form playing any match.

so solo que is a good "fit " for that type of player

Now on the other hand if a player is taking the game to the epic level of seriousness making the outcome of the game , your rank your lp your ONLY source of enjoyment.

If you take that type of player and then they willingly and intentionally join a match with random people

You are basically spinning a roulette wheel

On that wheel are

  • "serious people " like above
  • legitimate jerks and thinking of ways they are going to intentionally destroy the match,
  • People that may not take game as seriously as you
  • People who just want to rage and verbally abuse peole for fun
  • a legitimate "bad player" ( the not reportable kind) there are probably more player type examples as well

Now if you take that and look at probability factors

The chances of the "serious player" getting 4 other "serious people " is very low

and

The probability of getting "bad people" something simply "going wrong" or even something that you simply wont like

Is higher than the probability of getting 4 other serious people

So knowing those odds why would anyone taking taking the game to that level of seriousness be surprised when you spin the wheel and lose and things don't turn out they way they think they should?

So really taking all of this into account if you REALLY want to talk about player responsibility it up to each individual player to choose the option that is the best fit for them.
