Bans

No, I haven't gotten banned, but what I want to talk about is, your ban system is severely flawed. Someone says something in chat that someone else doesn't like, there's a mute button right, that's what you tell me when there's someone toxic in chat, mute them. and then report them at the end of the game. how about this riot, instead of reporting them at the end of the game, how about you shouldn't ban people for saying something in chat, there's a mute button ff they don't like what the other person is saying, the person can just mute them, the other person doesnt need to be removed from the game for long periods of time because he said something "offensive". Stop with this snowflake bullshit, if someone doesnt like what someone else is saying, they can go mute them, no report needed.

The mute button is a last resort. We cannot say "If they dont like what I say they can mute me". The first responsibility of each player is to respesct the rules.

Imagine a naturist walking around at the supermarket, completely naked. Its against the law, it annoys/shocks shoppers, he gets reported and evicted from the shop. And the naturist says "If they dont want to see my bare ass, they should close their eyes". No, they shouldnt have to close their eyes in the first place.

No, I haven't gotten banned, but what I want to talk about is, your ban system is severely flawed.

The punishment system may have flaws, but they are not so grievous as you think, nor are they the issues you take with the system.

how about this riot, instead of reporting them at the end of the game, how about you shouldn't ban people for saying something in chat...

Why? For what reason should they not ban players who consistently abuse chat?

...there's a mute button ff they don't like what the other person is saying, the person can just mute them...

The existence of the mute feature does not change that you agreed to abide by Riot's rules when you signed up to play League. The mute feature is a band-aid solution to the problem of player toxicity, and it only mitigates toxicity in the context of a given match. It doesn't change the rules, unless you can find anywhere in the User Rules that states that any of the rules are void if the mute feature exists.

And as hyperion3182 mentioned, the responsibility should not be placed on others when you (figuratively speaking) are perfectly capable of abiding by the rules.

...the other person doesnt need to be removed from the game for long periods of time because he said something "offensive".

That is your opinion, and while you're certainly entitled to it, it is not an opinion shared by League's playerbase at large, and - more importantly - not an opinion shared by Riot.

...if someone doesnt like what someone else is saying, they can go mute them, no report needed.

Alternatively, if you do not like the rules, you can play a different game with rules more to your tastes.

Why should it be everyone else's responsibility to shut you up with mute and not your (in general term) accountability to not spew toxic craps in chat and shut the hell up yourself? You have a brain and hopefully maturity and self-control. Use them.

Based on their extensive internal data and surveys, Riot believes that negative chat hurts their bottom line.

If you're old enough, you may remember old geek stores or conventions (wargaming, computers, anime, D&D, board games, whatever) didn't have personal hygiene rules. Geeks focused on their passion, and not societal niceties like bathing. Everyone had to get (thicker skin) used to it if they wanted to participate. But, spending hours in cramped locations with them isn't really very pleasant. Many people who tried to enter, just left to not return. That's a loss to the business owner. Others just spent less time browsing, and directly because of that purchased less. Another loss.

To increase the market for geek products and services, some stores started posting and enforcing hygiene rules.

Analogously to chat restrictions, there were 'community deodorant bars'. If you stank enough for an employee to notice or a customer to complain, you were given the choice of using the community deodorant or leaving. It really helped. It was incredibly embarrassing to be forced to do that.

Now, most places no longer post hygiene rules. It's just an expected part of participating in normal society.

If you're young, you're most likely here, playing a computer game, BECAUSE of the hygiene rules that were put in place back then. It massively changed the scope of who was willing to participate.

The rules on chat are just another form of hygiene.

People play fewer games per gaming session when they encounter negativity. People take longer breaks between gaming sessions when they encounter negativity. People decide to no longer play.

Can you imagine standing at the counter, looking at the community deodorant, knowing that your actions have been proven to drive away customers?

If you want to continue to stink, there are other games that don't have hygiene rules. You can go play those games.

Yeah but this is a team game. If someone is being an ass in chat to the point that their teammates feel the need to mute them, its not exactly about being "offended". Its about team cohesion and morale. That person clearly does not play well with others, which is what this team game is all about and a chat restrict is a good way to open their eyes to it. Some people dont even know that they're killing team morale. If they get BANNED for chat, then they have probably been chat restricted before and clearly arent interested in following the rules. I say ban em. They gotta learn somehow or gtfo.

Ive never been personally offended by someone in chat (though i understand how some could be hurt, as we are all human after all) but I have been thoroughly annoyed to the point of muting, and that kinda ruins the whole mood. The annoyance always comes before the mute. Was having fun, but this guy wont stop being a bitch in chat so it kinda ruined the fun. You know? Its not always about having feelings hurt. Its people trying to have fun but some raging mental infant is going off in chat all game. Like the annoying drunk at a bar. Hes not hurting anyones feelings, hes getting on their nerves! Stop with the fake snowflake shit. Its not as simple as only offending people.

Whether they deserve to be banned or not is still a matter of opinion. I respect your.opinion, it is completely valid to think they shouldnt banned. I just disagree. Ban em! (Also im just a bit of a curmudgeon and love seeing these youngins being held accountable for the shit they say online that they wouldnt say to anyones face. Pussies hiding behind anonymity being tough guys on their keyboards. Hah hah! Get banned kid)

I agree with this to an extent. I think slurs and threats should be bannable, but I've seen people get punished for some really laughable things...
