3 Things For Ranked Toxicity Mitigation (and Toxicity in General (Re-Uploaded)
Re-Uploaded cause I put it in the wrong forums section... Facepalm
So... I'm a Gold V player. I've played a fair few ranked games since Season 3, and I've had my fair share of trolls in game. However... It feels like there is NOTHING to do against trolls BEFORE the game starts. What does that leave us with? Only one option: Get the
out of dodge. It kind of sucks, especially those in promotionals, and I'm pretty sure I'm not alone in this sentiment. I know it's the pre-season and elo is locked for now, but it's still problematic and it's not going to end once the pre-season does. In fact all the trolls popping up during those 10 promotionals will be ugly. So I was hoping to maybe go over 3 things that could help this issue.
- Less harsh dodging penalties. This one feels like it could be useful for more than just trolls. Life sometimes just pops up out of nowhere and kind of forces you to choose: Do I continue playing, or do I take care of such-and-such problem? Overall, limiting how much LP is lost, maybe even not making dodges a loss for promotionals (though maybe this could be like, only prior to 3 in a row in one series or something) could help alleviate this problem just a bit. This would cut problems in half and could even keep trolls from playing the game period as otherwise they'd just get dodged over and over and over again. My only major problem with this idea though... It can be abused to get players into the roles they want more. I imagine a lot of last pick dodges could come of this and I can see why this would be a difficult decision to create such a system. Anyone remember Athene's video that literally said dodging was ok? League would just be that a lot of the time, especially in lower elos.
- A way to report outside of game (could be useful for end-game chat too). This way you could report someone by copy+pasting the chat (whether that be through code or a personal touch) into a report file and sending that along the line. I think this would help especially for the "Mid or Feeds" we all get from time to time, who won't say a word to anyone except "I had a bad game" and try and steal kills here or there to make it look as if they are actually trying to avoid reports getting fully processed. This could be taken farther by having a sort of "Report and Dodge" system where you actually HAVE to report someone pre-game, then you're given the option to dodge with no or at least heavily reduced LP loss. If you just try and abuse it though, your account can be back-tracked through the report and you can get in trouble instead with heavy LP loss for the accumulated dodges, suspensions, and even bans.
- Something to ban IPs. This would be helpful against multiple accounts, whether it be smurfs or just newcomers. Anyone who plays on Minecraft probably knows there are two ways to ban someone; account or IP. IP bans won't stop EVERYONE as a move or some sort of IP switch can get past these, but it would be super helpful against a large number of them if not most. This could also be used to limit smurfs to a set number of accounts, as I'm pretty sure a fair few people have come across the "I'm a Diamond III smurf on my 12th account, I don't give a
's behind about getting reported lol" and it's quite annoying to deal with. When used in conjunction with account bans it would keep repeat offenders from coming back without some effort on their part.
Lastly, and this isn't on the list as it's more about you guys, the players, than Riot; report people. Don't just immediately leave a game, take a moment, sit down, write up a good report explaining what happened in the game and what happened before and after, and send it. I know the League Tribunal we all take part in has been down for awhile (least it has been for me) but there still is a report system and bans are still being placed. In fact I got a reply thanking me for helping the system by reporting a player not too long ago, and this proves we have someone looking out for us. Most of my ideas involve prevention, and the best way to prevent something from happening repeatedly is to do something immediately after it happened the first time. Once someone gets enough reports on their head, something will be done.
I hope some Riot members get back to me on this as, of course, it's their job to try and work on the game, but feel free to discuss and even think up new ideas I didn't think of below. In the meantime, Good Luck in Solo Q, and have a Wonderful Day (points to whoever got that reference).
