Riot is taking honor too far.

I despise the new honor system. All it's done is piss me off to the point where I might stop playing the game because Riot is finding more and more ways to punish "toxic" players. I got dropped to honor 1 for bming by saying stuff like "ggez" or "bronze" or stuff like that. Not super toxic, but it's whatever. I don't care about honor rewards anyways. But then, I find out that you can't get a border at the end of the season unless you're honor 2 (a rank border in the loading screen). AND you can't participate in clash either. So now they've fucked me over in three different ways just because I'm "toxic". Isn't that taking it a bit too far? There are so many toxic people in this game, and punishing them by depriving them of certain features, along with chat restrictions and bans, is just counter-productive. I haven't been punished for a while, but I'm still at honor 1 with no checkpoints because it takes decades to level up your honor. I get honored almost every game and I hardly talk in chat, but I'm literally stuck below honor 2 and they won't even give me a checkpoint. So now, not only do I not get rewards that I don't really care about, but I also don't get access to a shit ton of other stuff. All because I trash talked in a COMPETITIVE ONLINE GAME. Hm...

First of all, let me correct you:

All because I trash talked in a COMPETITIVE ONLINE GAME.

You mean you went over the line in trash-talking in a competitive online game. It's one thing to toss about some competitive BM, but you have to know when to lay off, elsewise...Well, you're already there, aren't you?

But then, I find out that you can't get a border at the end of the season unless you're honor 2 (a rank border in the loading screen). AND you can't participate in clash either.

Isn't that taking it a bit too far?

No...? Why should dishonorable people get rewards or - more - participate in high-stakes competitive modes? If you crack under the pressure of Ranked play, what's it gonna be like when things go sour in Clash - a gamemode, which, by the way, is more competitive than Ranked play?

Setting the bar to entry at Honor 2 - the baseline Honor level for all accounts - ensures that the pool of competitive players in Clash is pruned of the most likely candidates for toxicity. There may still be some toxic players in Clash, but setting an Honor prerequisite ensures that those who were punished for (semi-)recent misbehavior don't bring their toxicity into a gamemode where people want - more than ever - to win.

As for End of Season rewards...Again, tell me exactly why dishonorable players should be rewarded? Sure, I can agree, it's a bit harsh for some folks who truly have reformed to just have to stew in silence because, despite their efforts and skill, they don't get their End of Season rewards, but, such is the bed they made themselves in the first place.

You've still got the rest of the year to climb back in honor ranks. If you want your End of Season rewards, earn it. Don't expect that your misbehavior isn't gonna have consequences.

There are so many toxic people in this game, and punishing them by depriving them of certain features, along with chat restrictions and bans, is just counter-productive.

Is it, really? The point of a punishment is to provide negative reinforcement to an undesirable action. Riot doesn't want people being toxic, so it only makes sense that players who act out and break the rules don't get some of the greater benefits the game provides. If they still got End of Season Rewards and access to Clash, what would be stopping them from continuing their misbehavior oh-so infrequently as to keep their account, but still enough to ruin people's experiences?

Again - I can agree that, for some people, it's pretty harsh. I could lament their potential wasted efforts all day long, but, I don't come to the boards to wax poetic. At the end of the day, though, people have been asking for harsher punishments to players who break the rules, and the indirect approach seems to be perfectly viable, IMO.

It's not hard to not be a shitty person. You are correct in saying that "ggez" isn't super toxic. It's still obnoxious and almost always unnecessary, and makes the game worse for other players. People like you are why I mute the enemy team before each round starts. I think this is a great initiative for Riot to take. They are rewarding those who play honorably with the occasional free skin, as well as cracking down on players who make the game a cesspool. Also, there are hundreds of competitive online games. Pick another if you don't like this one.

you didn't get chat restriction for saying ggez and bronze you got it for saying a load of shit for several games straight and unless you post chat logs you can't prove me wrong

95% of the player base aren't toxic. So Yea, you deserve special treatment.

Did they change how honor interacted with rank? To my knowledge it still wouldn't affect ranked awards unless done super late in the season, when they do their cut off.
