My thoughts about my first 14 day suspension ban (and why I'm leaving LOL)

I'm not going to blame someone or demand system to change. I know how big RIOT is and they are doing what they can (given their circumstance) to keep the system alive. It's working well enough to keep millions of fans. If I was so smart, I'd make a better version of LOL and wage my ultimate vengeance... but I'm not Zuckerberg welp nor do I have the capital rivaling the Chinese shareholders belonging to RIOT welp.

I was toxic second or 3rd last game before I received by first 14 day suspension. I used color languages. I don't think I was unreasonably toxic (in a sense that I thought they were justified... like say if you had 2 weeks to prep for the test and you don't know the basics I have every right to say you were an idiot unless he was in a medical coma or something). In this particular example, I was blitz an my ad (not adc... yup still toxic lolz) was draven (no, it was not Tyler1). He absorbed almost every skillshots.

Now normally, I don't go too toxic. I understand we have different skillsets (even though RIOT should supposedly have a system that should do that to some degree I suspect), but if you are playing like a noob and your stat reflects that... you should know your place and say yeah I fucked up but I'm new. Just bear with me and i'll try my best for this game. I did that myself when I was playing bad (or just not talk back cause as much as they piss me off... they are right. I don't have to indulge their anger but I don't bitch back if I can't back myself up).

But this kid was berating me on things that were imo clearly his fault. And I get annoyed when they do. Not only they are making my life more difficult, they are now pissing me off. This is no longer a game, it's not emotional hassle I have to deal with until the game ends. And unfortunately, you're stuck in that nightmare for 20 min+... 15 if you're lucky but as we all know, it doesn't happen all that often. There's always one kid who vetos the vote regardless of how hopeless it is.

I think my advice if you wanna keep playing; mute the chat, and if things are really bad... try to surrender and troll. Not troll to get people mad or get emotional, but do it strategically so that you can let the enemy team win as fast as possible without triggering too many red flags that could be used against you. RIOT does not yet have an advance machine learning/AI to see if you were purposefully throwing the game. Just farm jg, and roam. Pretend it's like a last stand game and your goal is to avoid dying without staying still in the base.

I do this sometimes and never got banned. But this game got the better of me, and I guess one of the reports managed to trigger RIOT and colorful words I used passed their punishment criteria.

It's annoying as a player, but put it in RIOT's POV:

There are millions of people playing LOL all across the world. To police every single reports by reading them, observe the game to grasp the and make qualitative judgement as to whether the flaming is justified or crossing the line... it's impossible until very intelligent machine learning/AI makes a breakthrough. However, RIOT needs to establish some order to ensure the game is often played as it was intended to ensure fans don't make a grand exodus. As such, I suspect RIOT has an automated system. Priority goes to account that was reported, and filter through the chat to see if key words have been said (ex. kys, fuck, piece of shit, etc). If criterias are met, deliver punishment based on the account's history.

Like assembling IKEA' furniture, I think swearing and venting with some control and rational is totally justified (reflects the passion they have in the game), but I don't own RIOT so we play by the house rules.

For better or for worse, if you don't like the house rules you have to seek entertainment elsewhere. You're not the first to leave LOL nor will you be last. It's a cost of doing business RIOT is willing to pay to keep the system alive as a whole, so don't bitch and scream. Plenty of other games/hobbies you can explore imo.

I know it's not permanent, but I know who I am and yes I can bail the game by how I said before and carefully not tip off flags to ensure I don't get banned. Still, why play when you're not being entertained? It's like a relationship; there are pros and cons and you decide it's worth it because pros outweigh the cons. I realized there's more cons than pros now. It sucks, and I wish RIOT could make some radical changes so that it becomes the game I fell in love with and devoted hundreds of hours (I was lvl 106-8... can't remember when I got suspension warning) and I created the account few months before season 8 started. I met some pretty awesome players (some who were toxic to me but I added and learned). I learned a lot of cool things from build guide websites, and eventually got to the point where I started to read item details and make my own accordingly... even modify here and there depending on the enemy team's composition and their items being built. It was like 10 player chess game... it was beautiful. Reminded me of the nostalgic days when we were playing fan-made DOTA from Warcraft battlenet servers... ah the good times when you can spend money on your stat and have a duel in midst of the game all players can gamble/bet... good times lolz sigh.

I'm not demanding them to change just for me. As a coder, it's a hassle just to reverse engineer and replicate primitive games (I spent a week worth of sleepless nights when I tried to make more complex version of sudoku solver) so I know it's a pain. Some might argue well RIOT is a huge company with huge budget and plenty of programmers and algo designers who are far more talented than I can ever dream... but bigger the company, your budget also has to deal with other things, bureaucracy becomes harder to overcome, and game platform becomes so complex debugging/maintaining becomes a nightmare (and more so as they introduce more features and champions). I get it. It's not personal. They can't deliver what I want and the world doesn't revolve around me. If I could become a seriously skilled player worthy of making it to competitive games, maybe I could have a bigger influence but I'm not that good and I don't plan to be that good. It'd be cool if I work for RIOT and change from within but I'm still a college brat with much to learn and flirting with basic concepts reserved for intern students (ex. making easy primitive database system).

We are living in the world where corporations have to be ever so careful to best meet the demands from the consumers. You are here because you meet that better than many other competitors. But keep slacking and be out of touch like this, and you will be replaced... like it has happened often in the past. I'm not the first to leave nor will I be last. Thanks for the good times that got me so addicted, but alas this is a final goodbye. You are permanently banned in my life lolz.

Goodbye, and good luck :)

That's the difference between a lot of people around here. Some think you have the right to say this, others say you only have the right to think it, and actually saying it is childish, unnecessary, or simply rude.

Hopefully you find enjoyment out of whatever comes next.

I laughed when you described your teammate as possibly being in a "medical coma" based on the skill he demonstrated throughout the game. I had plenty of those today! No worries, keep up the good work on the rift summoner!
